GOLF NEWS
FALL GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE In the upcoming weeks we will be undertaking a number of important maintenance practices. These practices include Dry-Ject aeration of greens and approaches on November 1st and 2nd, deep tine aerification of greens that started today, sand topdressing next month, as well as the installation of XGD drainage in 18, 4, and 6 greens next week. All of these practices help insure the health and playability of the golf course in both the long, and short term. These cultural practices are also instrumental in how our golf course handles the extreme conditions that we face each season, especially this one. At different times, during the course of the year we have experienced record setting cold, snow, rain, heat and high humidity. The practices we employ now help us effectively handle adversity in the future. DRY-JECT AERIFICATION OF GREENS AND APPROACHES Scheduled for November 1st and 2nd Course will be open but may have to skip a hole if the green is being worked on.
We will have up to 4, Dry-Ject aerification machines on the property and our entire golf maintenance staff will be assisting in this process. Â Dry-Ject uses a high-speed, water-based injection system to blast aeration holes through the root zone to fracture the soil. The patented vacuum technology simultaneously fills holes to the surface with high volumes of sand.
This means we can relieve compaction, increase water infiltration, reach the root zone with oxygen, increase water and fertilizer utilization, promote a deep and healthy root system, and amend our soil with high volumes of material all at the same time. Plus DryJect leaves the surface smooth and playable almost immediately. Â For more information on Dry-Ject visit dryject.com.
Titleist Partners Conference October 1st to the 3rd Newport, RI During the days of October 1st to October 3rd Titleist hosted a Partners Conference in Newport, RI which included PGA Professionals who are on Staff with Titleist. Those in attendance traveled from all over the USA as well as Canada and the UK. The Clubs that were represented were some of the most renowned worldwide: Shinnecock, Aronomink, Los Angeles Country Club and East Lake CC just to name a few. The concept of the event is to allow those in attendance to be able to learn from the best in the business as well as share ideas with each other. Brad Faxon, Bob Vokey, Michael Breed as well as Webb Simpson and all of the leaders of the Acushnet Company were on hand. The group was able to tour the Titleist ball plant as well as headquarters. Seeing the production processes live and being able to discuss R&D with the engineers and scientists who design and develop product was a truly great experience. Having an understanding of how the product is tested and developed makes for a greater appreciation of how performance is affected. This understanding makes us better club fitters and allows us to make better recommendations to our own members.
Having attended several conferences like this one, this was truly the best I have been able to experience. The ability to have unfiltered conversations with some of most well respected professionals in the business and being able to provide feedback to the leaders of Titleist was invaluable. The ability to discuss putting with Brad Faxon and discuss proper use of wedges with Bob Vokey are both lessons that make us all more effective when helping our own Members. It is my belief that we must always keep learning and trying to get better each and every day. Learning from an industry leader like Titleist and fellow professionals who have risen to the top of their profession are experiences that are invaluable and a must to continue to be successful. It is professional conferences like this that allow us to be better PGA professionals. Allan Belden Head PGA Professional
