97th Invitational “Wild Card” Saturday Every Team still has a chance to win the coveted “Green Jackets” Didn’t quite have your best game the first two days? Today is a new day!

The Grand March is a three-hole, single-elimination playoff to determine the 97th Invitational Champions.

Participants: There will be 12 teams total, comprised of the 8 flight winners, 3 wild card teams and one team which has the most points on Saturday.

The wild card teams will be those teams that won the greatest number of points in the field, but did not win their flight. In the event of a tie for the wild card, the first tie breaker is determined by the number of matches won during the tournament. Next tie breaker is most points on Saturday, followed by most points in Match 7 followed by most points in Match 6 and working backwards until the tie is broken.

Most Points Saturday: The 12th and final team to participate in the Grand March will be the team that has the most points on Saturday but did not win their flight and is also not a wild card team. Ties for this 12th and final spot will be broken by: most points in Match 7 followed by Match 6 and working backwards until tie is broken.

Caddie Comedy If caddies could say what they really think...

At Waterville in Ireland, a golfer hits it into tall grass and asks the caddie, “Will we find it?”

The caddie’s response: “Lad, if that ball was wrapped in bacon Lassie couldn’t find it!”

The player asks the caddie, “What’s over the green?”

The caddie replies, “Nothing but bogeys.”

Golfer: “I’d move heaven and earth to break 100 on this course.”

Caddy: “Try heaven, you’ve already moved most of the earth.”

Golfer: “This is the worst course I’ve ever played on.”

Caddy: “This isn’t the golf course. We left that an hour ago.”

After a particularly poor round, a golfer spotted a lake as he walked despondently up the 18th. He looked at his caddie and said, “I’ve played so badly all day, I think I’m going to drown myself in that lake.” The caddie, quick as a flash, replied, “I’m not sure you could keep your head down that long.”

A golfer was having a terrible round – 20-over par for the front nine with scores of balls lost in water or rough. When his caddie then coughed as he steadied himself over a 12-inch putt on the 10th, he lost it. “You’ve got to be the worst caddie in the world!” he yelled. “I doubt it,” replied the caddie, dead-pan. “That would be too much of a coincidence.”

Wyndham Championship News Steele receives two-stroke penalty after caddie uses stick to check alignment Brendan Steele received a two-shot penalty for use of an alignment stick during the second round of the Wyndham Championship. Steele was off to a rough start, having played his first three holes in 4 over, and after hitting his approach to No. 13 (his fourth hole of the day) he asked his caddie to check his alignment. His caddie then put down an alignment stick, which many players use in practice but which is prohibited during competition.

“I thought maybe that would be a problem,” Steele said.

Under Rule 4-3, players are prohibited from using “any type of golf training or swing aid (such as an alignment rod or weighted head cover or ‘donut’) or a non-conforming club to make a practice swing or in any other way that creates a potential advantage by helping the player in preparing for or making a stroke (such as help with swing plane, grip, alignment, ball position or posture).”

Steele quickly consulted with an on-site rules official, who informed him of the penalty that turned a par into a double bogey. But that discussion also included an added explanation that Steele might have avoided a penalty by performing a similar check with a different instrument. “(The rules official) said that an umbrella and a club was fine to use, but a stick’s not,” Steele said. “It’s one of those things.

PGA Tour announces new schedule featuring 2020 Olympics off-week and a significant WGC move The PGA Tour regular season finishes this week at the Wyndham Championship, with a three-event playoffs officially putting the bowtie on the 2018-'19 campaign. But, due to the tour's wrap-around schedule, the new "year" begins in earnest in early September. On Monday, the PGA Tour unveiled what that schedule will look like, with a handful of significant changes.

The tour's tent pole ethos—hosting a significant tournament in six straight months—returns, with the Players Championship in March, the Masters in April, the PGA Championship in May, the U.S. Open in June, the Open Championship in July and the FedEx Cup Playoffs in August. The tour will also cater to the sport's participation in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, with no tournament on the schedule during the Summer Games' golf competition.

One of the biggest moves of note is the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. Played this year the week after the Open, the final WGC event leaves late July to in-between the U.S. Open and Open Championship, giving the tournament—and the players—time to breathe. Also a winner is the Rocket Mortgage Classic. The second-year event, whose field lacked considerable pop in its early July position, is moving to May, to be held a week before the Memorial.

Those that will be viewed as victims of the altered itinerary include the 3M Open. After a stellar debut featuring a duel between Matthew Wolff and Collin Morikawa, the Minnesota event is shoehorned between the Open Championship and the Olympics. Also taking a blow is the Travelers Championship. While the U.S. Open is just down the road at Winged Foot next summer, the Hartford staple is in the middle of a U.S. Open and WGC sandwich, potentially siphoning the field of star power. And though it's a European Tour event, the Irish Open will now be competing with the WGC-FedEx St Jude's new date, potentially threatening the IrishScottish-British trifecta that's been a treat for links fans.

As previously announced, the Northern Trust will begin its Massachusetts—New York seesaw by visiting TPC Boston in August. The playoffs will proceed to Olympia Fields in Chicago for the BMW Championship and conclude at East Lake for the Tour Championship.

The fall portion of the slate begins Sept. 9 in West Virginia. The Military Tribute at the Greenbrier, along with the Houston Open, moved from their historical summer spots to autumn. There are two new events in the fall: the Zozo Championship, which will be the first PGA Tour event in Japan, and the alternate event Bermuda Championship. Also of note: the Sanderson Farms Championship, which has been promoted from its alternate-event status. (Golf World)
