Hello!
My name is Melisa Beveridge and I am the artist and founder of Woollybear Travels. I am a Registered Veterinary Technician on a mission to make the world a better place for orphaned, injured, and rescued animals. Through Woollybear Travels, I go to animal sanctuaries around the world and volunteer my services as an animal nurse. I paint expressive portraits of my new animal friends and have them printed onto high-quality greeting cards, fine art prints, vinyl stickers, and flexible magnets. I tell their stories on the backs of the cards and prints. Rather than focusing on the sadness of tough situations, I keep the stories mostly light so I can encourage happiness and inspiration.
My collections consist of many donkeys (my favorite!), African animals, and farm animals. 10% of my sales go to the sanctuaries where the animals live to help provide for them and their animal friends.
MY PROCESS
Meet my new animal friend, Buddha, and get kisses.
Buddha
The first time I met Buddha he greeted me with a big cow smooch! Of course, I fell in love instantly. Buddha is a HUGE Holstein dairy cow. This gentle giant is over 2,000 pounds, nearly 6 feet tall, and has a kind heart with a playful spirit. His best friend is another cow named Rosa, and he loves her even more than he loves hay (and trust me, he LOVES his hay). He loves hay so much that he’s outgrown his first barn and is still growing!
Happy Hen Animal Sanctuary stepped in to rescue him when he was just a week old. He had been removed from his mother at the dairy and did not get the important colostrum from her that he needed to thrive. This led to him becoming very sick and he had to be rushed to the hospital. It was touch and go for several months, but his strong will helped him pull through and make a full recovery! When he went outside for the first time, he literally jumped with joy.
Buddha reminds everyone who visits the sanctuary why animals deserve to be rescued, respected, and loved. He has changed the lives of many people just through his presence, and he showed me how gentle and sweet a cow can be. I adore him.
10% of this sale will be donated to Happy Hen Animal Sanctuary for the care of Buddha and his friends.

He still can’t fly very well and has some neurological issues, so he has joined the Ambassador Team at PWC. As an ambassador, he visits different events to educate people about his species and animal rehabilitation. Pidgy LOVES to meet new people, so being an ambassador comes very naturally to him. When I met him, he got VERY excited. He puffed up his feathers for me and did a mating dance the entire time! I was pretty impressed with his moves, but told him he wasn’t really my type. Pigeons have an innate ability to find their way home from long distances. This special skill has helped save over a thousand lives during wars when pigeons earned medals for delivering messages! One famous pigeon, named Cher Ami, was shot down by enemy fire and STILL made it back with her message. She was badly injured, but the army medics saved her life and replaced her broken leg with a wooden one! Who knew pigeons were such incredible creatures!? Pidgy is now 5 years old and has a long and happy life ahead of him. was especially excited to paint him because my nephew has been interested in pigeons for some time now. He was a baby, with his umbilical cord still attached. He couldn’t have been more than a couple of days old. This very lucky boy was rescued by Goatlandia, a sanctuary in Santa Rosa, CA. They bottle-fed him for months and he grew up to be happy and healthy. Now Ollie loves to eat! He is always chewing, chewing, Speaking of eating, the day I met Ollie, he had just eaten breakfast and came right up to me for lots of pets. Goats are NOT shy and want as much love, attention and treats as they can get. saw Ollie a second time at the Sonoma County Veg Fest where he was busy meeting people and helping Goatlandia volunteers spread the word about their amazing sanctuary. I’ve heard she washes her little face the way a hamster does and can only imagine it’s the cutest thing in the world. She has light pink coloring on her ear tips and a clean tail (this is a sign of a young opossum). Peanut had a head injury when she was found, which led to blindness, so she cannot be released into the wild. Since she can’t be released, she was given the very important job of Wildlife Ambassador at Pacific Wildlife Care. This means she travels to different events to teach people about her species. This is an especially important job because, as you may know, opossums get a pretty bad rap. Opossums are essential to our environment because they act as nature’s “Sanitation Engineers.” They help us out by getting rid of SO many pests. Scientists credit them with helping slow the spread of Lyme disease. Also, it is extremely rare for them to carry rabies because they have a body temperature lower than other mammals plus high immunity, so they are not good hosts for rabies. Another interesting fact I learned about opossums is that they are immune to snake venom and the toxin from scorpion bites. Between their cuteness, their ability to help prevent the spread of disease, and immunity from so many scary things, opossums seem like superheroes to me! I hope my painting and Peanut’s story help paint opossums in a different light and show the world how special these little creatures really are. woollybeartravels.com Instagram @woollybeartravels © Melisa Beveridge 2022 #PWCC74 10% of this sale will be donated to Pacific Wildlife Care for the care of Peanut and her friends. I met Ingrid at Goatlandia, a sanctuary in Santa Rosa, California. Her unique markings allowed me to keep track of her in a sea of baby goats. They were all so playful and curious and wanted ALL the attention. I was lucky enough to be there for bottle-feeding time and boy was it the most ADORABLE thing I’ve ever seen. The baby goats come running with wagging tails and drink down Ingrid came from a local dairy in Sebastopol. She was too small for the dairy to keep, so the sanctuary took her in. Goatlandia rescues and raises 2-3 dozen babies from dairies every year. Once the babies are old enough, they join the grazing herd at another wonderful non-profit called City Grazing in San Francisco. I’m so happy Ingrid was rescued and has a safe and happy place to live out her days. His official name is Oberon, but his handler calls him by his nickname, Leo. His story began in the California Valley when as a baby, he fell from his nest. He was rescued and treated for his injuries by Pacific Wildlife Care, but unfortunately his wing fracture would prevent him from ever being able to fly properly. The good news is Leo has a safe place to stay at PWC, and he was given the very important job of Wildlife Ambassador. This means he travels to different events to raise awareness about his species and the amazing things PWC does for orphaned animals! While going back into the wild is always the goal, this is a very good and safe alternative for sweet Leo. Long-eared owls are uniquely adaptable and resilient, it is very rare for them to need rehabilitation because they can compensate for conditions by relying on their varied diet. The long-eared owl has feathers called ear tufts that reflect their mood, kind of like cats’ ears do. When their ear tufts are up, they act like a warning to other males and when they are down, look out! The ear tufts are not actually their ears—their ears are located lower down on the head. Leo loves to perch way up high and look over the beautiful wilderness next to his house. This stunning owl has incredible golden eyes that were so enchanting that knew I had to paint him. woollybeartravels.com Instagram @woollybeartravels © Melisa Beveridge 2022 #PWCC71 10% of this sale will be donated to Pacific Wildlife Care for the care of Leo and his friends. Visit pacificwildlifecare.org Barry Barry was adopted by a young girl named Sophia in Long Beach, CA when he was just a little duckling. Over the 3 years Sophia and Barry were together, they developed a strong bond, much stronger than she expected when she adopted him! Eventually Sophia’s family had to move, and Barry could not go with them. Sophia was very sad, but she knew she had to find a safe and happy place for him to live. Luckily, she discovered Lilly’s Animal Sanctuary through an amazing organization called the Farm Animal Adoption Network (FAAN). It was very hard to see him go, but Sophia was happy to find him a home with other animals and life-long care. She checks in with the sanctuary often to see how Barry’s doing, and plans to visit him as soon as she can. I met Barry at Lilly’s recently and was instantly drawn to him and his cute little hairdo. He is a funny fella that loves to be in the middle of the action. My nephew also noticed what a sweet boy Barry was, and kept picking him up for duck cuddles. Thanks to the selflessness of Sophia and the team at Lilly’s, Barry gets to live out his days safely and happily at the sanctuary. A7 Card, blank inside, with white envelope | MOQ 6 per design | $3.00 USD GREETING CARDS melisa@woollybeartravels.com | 406-546-4507 11 One morning at Woods Humane Society the veterinarian asked me to give a new pitbull arrival some medication. She said that he was a big potato, and was going to love him. That was the understatement of all time. I fell 1000% in love with him. Poor Kukur came with a LOT of medical issues, but he is the sweetest boy. He always has a big stuffed animal in his mouth and wants all the attention and love. Everyone at Woods While under the care of Woods, He had a complicated procedure called a TECA-BO in which the infected, abnormal ear tissue is removed, reducing chronic pain and inflammation and it really made him a happier boy. He is deaf but it doesn’t slow him down. He also had an emergency surgery to remove a piece of a toy that was stuck in his tummy, poor guy! He was in foster with a Woods employee and her family for many months as he healed from all of his procedures. The family’s landlord told them they could not keep Kukur and everyone was super sad. I considered adopting him myself but there were certain circumstances that would have made it very difficult. After a couple of adoptions and returns through no fault of the perfect potato Kukur, they finally talked the landlord into letting him stay!!!! It was the best news ever! He is the best dog with the best family. He even comes to Woods to visit us, and we all get super excited to snuggle him. During that particular year, the Avenal shelter only had four adoptions, prompting them to collaborate with other shelters to find loving homes for their dogs. In 2018 he made his way to Woods Humane Society, accompanied by a group of dogs from the same shelter. Upon his arrival at Woods, he caught the eye of Emily, the current CEO, who immediately fell in love with him. Her husband and her son, Oliver, were on the lookout for a canine companion, so they all went to meet Ranger, along with family dog, Luca. They fostered him while he awaited his neutering, and it didn’t take long for them to decide to make him a permanent part of their family. His name sparked some debate, but after a vote, “Ranger” was chosen. In fact, his full name is “Ranger Danger Moon Dog”, as christened by the creative 5-year-old, Oliver. Emily affectionately describes Ranger as a solid oafish doofus. He is goofy and derpy but most importantly, he has a loving personality. Ranger adores children, gets along with cats, and even welcomes puppies, making him the perfect foster dad when the occasion arises. When had the pleasure of meeting Ranger, he was a perfect gentleman and had a curious nature. His most striking feature, not immediately apparent from the front view, is his remarkably long nose, which only adds to his charm and adorableness. Ranger has won the hearts of the entire Woods staff. He was so lucky to get taken to Woods and to have found his amazing forever home there.
