When and how did your business get started?

Aoire Maith has been around since 2021, and we started making peg looms in 2024. I started my fiber business after becoming involved in the Shave Em to Save Em program. It struck me that there were so many farms struggling to get a fair price for their fiber, and so many fiber artists who were stuck in a 'merino is the only wool' spot - I wanted to help on both fronts. Case Runyan of Aoire Maith Fibre Studios Do you have a favorite base/ blend/ fiber/product that you make? What is special about it?

When it comes to fiber, I keep coming back to Lincoln Longwool....depending on the breeder, you can get very coarse (perfect for rugs and jackets) or rather soft (perfect for adding spots of color, texture, and shine to all projects). It is also

As for lumber, I do not have a favorite there, though the live edge peg looms are definitely where my artistic brain really comes alive.

Do you have fiber or other animals?

I always say that I have friends with sheep...then I get to play with lambs and fleece, but not deal with poop! Plus, then I get to have all the wool breeds I want! I have 3 cats at home, an old man who is 13, and two rambunctious girls that are 2 and 4.

While I *could* spin their fur, I don't!

Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about your business?

Changes will be coming in the new year with new processing tools creating new product offerings!

What makes WAFA special for you?

The connections not only with customers who come and play during live sales and festivals alike, but also the community of vendors.

I would love for everybody to enjoy the finest spinning fiber and yarn I am privileged to grow and use for creating. The physical and emotional rewards that accompany raising lovely, sustainable wool go far beyond the beauty of the final product.

We raise Merinos, Polypays, and natural colored Rambouillet / Columbia crosses. Our lamb pen is a menagerie of sizes, colors, and patterns of beautiful animals. Our sheep, in collaboration with American Mills, create the finest combed top, roving, varieties of yarn, and rug yarn. I use our wool and dye naturally or with acid dyes and create spinning batts.

Our wool and neighbor-grown alpaca or small farm-sourced mohair, and a splash of silk create some pretty sweet spinning batts. I love collaborating with fiber-minded people: my yarn & your talent, my wool & your alpaca, mohair, and Angora.
