A Reflective Guide for Improving Care and Services
By Dr. Karen Treisman
This comprehensive reflective resource explores the values, principles and practical applications of trauma-informed andinfused health care.
Trauma -Informed Health Care introduces the different types of trauma - including medical and health trauma - and the impact of adversities, social inequalities and stressors. It explores their effects on health and the body, and on people's relationships with health providers.
Key issues addressed include the importance of cultural humility, the effects of secondary and vicarious trauma, burnout and moral injury. It also covers the critical issue of organizational trauma: how to avoid practice which has potential to traumatize or retraumatize, and the role of cultural understanding, language, leadership, staff wellbeing and the physical environment. Drawing substantially on the experiences of people who use services and active practitioners, this book spans diverse settings from doctor's surgeries to hospitals and allied health services.
It reveals how "every interaction can be an intervention" and provides you with practical examples, graphics and reflective exercises to support you to bring about positive change.

The definitive Handbook of Trauma-Transformative Practice brings together the work of leading international trauma experts to provide a detailed overview of trauma-informed practice and intervention: its history, the latest frameworks for practice and an inspiring vision for future trauma-transformative practice. The Handbook is interdisciplinary, incorporating trauma research, interpersonal neuroscience, the historical and continuing experiences of victims and survivors, and insights from practitioners. It addresses a range of current issues spanning polyvagal theory, the social brain, oxytocin and the healing power of love, and the neuropsychological roots of shame. It also considers trauma through the lens of communities, with chapters on healing inter/transgenerational trauma and building communities' capacity to end interpersonal violence. Furthermore the Handbook makes the case for a new way of thinking about trauma - trauma transformative practice. One which is founded on the principle of working with the whole person and as part of a network of relationships, rather than focusing on symptoms to improve practice, healing and recovery.

Identifying Care and Therapeutic Interventions
By Pat Frankish
Since its publication in 2019, the FAIT has begun to be used more widely to inform a variety of care packages and therapeutic interventions. Understanding the Impact of Trauma takes the FAIT as a starting point, exploring the concept of 'emotional disability' that can follow a traumatic event and the usefulness of applying models like the FAIT more broadly to anyone who has experienced trauma. It will introduce some of the key theories that have informed our understanding of the emotional development of people with intellectual disabilities, followed by a series of case studies focusing on different individuals and how their emotional development informed their therapeutic interventions, including people with intellectual disabilities, people with mental health issues, people living with dementia and autistic people.
AN Attachment-based Approach to Caring for People with Lived Experience of Trauma
By Jo Anderson, Anna Bodicoat
There is increased interest in trauma informed care in the UK and worldwide, however so far there are limited resources for professionals providing training to help health and social care staff (who may have had very little training in attachment theory) to provide care which is trauma informed at an emotional as well as practical level. The CaPLET Training Manual will guide facilitators in making the core psychodynamic concepts – which are relevant to providing traumainformed care – accessible to health and social care staff. In addition, it will enable facilitators to help staff better understand the people they care for in the context of their histories of trauma and develop insight into the ways in which attending to their own emotional and behavioural responses can help them provide better care.

This handbook promotes a perspective shift within learning disability services that aims to move the focus of professional support away from diagnosis and identifying what someone cannot do, towards assessing and supporting strengths and providing opportunities and resources to enhance people's quality of life. Designed to be used both by facilitators and as a self-study guide for those who support people with intellectual disabilities, Enabling Capable Environments will provide direction to enhance practitioners' skills and develop a more collaborative, hands-on leadership approach. The authors set out a unique framework that outlines the critical approaches that underpin enabling capable environments and how these can be implemented successfully.
By Jenny Marshall, Jamie Kirkland
Working in forensic services requires clinicians to deal with complex trauma on both a professional and personal basis. Professionally, they must care for and rehabilitate people who have not only experienced trauma but also behaved in traumatic ways toward others. And on a personal level, they are inevitably touched by this trauma - by reliving it in dialogue, or by observing its effects. A key challenge they face is to build strong therapeutic relationships with those for whom past relationships have faltered and often become incendiary. Innovative Practice in Forensic Settings explores issues of how to simultaneously hold in mind risk, safety and vulnerability, and how to maintain a capacity to think alongside a capacity to feel.
