Marlon Brando
Hollywood Rebel
By Burt Kearns
Over the last eighty years, Marlon Brando has become such an object of fascinaon, buried under so many accreted layers of mythos and half-truth, that it is all but impossible to see the man behind the icon. As we approach the centennial of this undisputed American legend, Marlon Brando: Hollywood Rebel is a revelatory biography that tells its story the same way the man himself approached a role: from the inside. Author, journalist, and pop culture authority Burt Kearns digs deep into the unexplored aspects of Brando's career, interests, and singular personality, revealing how his roles on stage and screen, combined with his wild and restless personal life, helped to transform popular culture and society writ large. His influence was both broad and deep.

Dream Machines
Electronic Music in Britain from Doctor Who to Acid House
By Matthew Collin
Finally, the whole story of the rise of electronic music as a cultural movement from the 1940s to the 1980s. The first extensive social history of electronic music, looking at how the music evolved and mutated against the backdrop of social and polical changes in society - from the beginning of the 1960s, amid the opmism for the ‘space age’ and a new technologically enhanced prosperity, through the struggles for social jusce of the late 1960s and 1970s to the era of entrepreneurialism and the end of the post-war social consensus in the 1980s. The book explores how life as it was experienced by young people in those years affected the sounds that they made, how electronic music provided an outlet for progressive thinkers to express non-mainstream ideas about gender roles and sexuality, and how it connued to inspire subcultures that also nurtured black and gay musicians over these decades.

Londoners Making London
Transforming Neighbourhoods
By Jan Kattein
Londoners Making London tells the story of nine projects that have redefined local community-driven urban regeneraon. Countering the expectaon that the development of cies is controlled only by powerful developers, this book demonstrates that transformaonal change is increasingly driven not by architects or planners, but by individuals who, through their convicon and determinaon - oen against all odds - have created beter places for and with their communies. In areas such as Wandsworth, Shoreditch, and Wood Green, young and old can be seen working together to create more cohesive, atracve, and prosperous pockets of their city. Colourful street pares, urban gardening, acvated shop fronts, invigorated empty spaces, or re-designed neighbourhoods are some of the stories which illustrate what can be done when people work together.
Speaking Sculptures in Late Medieval Europe
A Silent Rhetoric
By Kim W. Woods
Speaking Sculptures in Late Medieval Europe explores medieval sculptors' mof of the open mouth. Too oen dismissed as an illusionisc arsc device, or as an affecve ploy to foster the emoonal response of the viewer, 'speech mode', as it is called in this book, is here shown to have a deeper significance as an agent of engagement and persuasion. Through the evocaon of sound, speaking sculptures fostered imaginavely an aural relaonship between the sculpture and the viewer. Exploring a wide range of geographies, this work demonstrates that the speech mode in sculpture was not an isolated phenomenon but a familiar device in many areas of Late Gothic Europe.
The Art Instuon of Tomorrow
Reinvenng the Model
By Fatos Ustek
This publicaon is a unique manifesto for raising the standard of instuonal pracces across the world. It suggests that exisng art instuons are not equipped to deal with the radical social, economic, and environmental change we are living through and engage with advancement in the arts, and that unless they re-focus on their core purpose and fundamentally transform their organisaonal structure and operaonal models, they will start to lose their relevance and influence. Built on an extensive study of non-profit visual-arts organisaons and the creave industries at large and incorporang interviews with instuonal leaders from throughout the sector, the book expresses a clear outline of change that art instuons will need to undergo to maintain their relevance for generaons to come.

Clean Economy Now
Stories from the Frontlines of an American Business Revoluon
By Bob Keefe and Forward by Arnold Schwarzenegger
An inspiring look at the Clean Energy Revoluon Combining the insncts of a journalist and the insight of the leader of a naonal business organizaon at the forefront of climate policy, Bob Keefe provides the first in-depth look at how the most important climate acon in history is reshaping our economy, the way we live, and the future of our planet. He shows how the future long predicted by pundits, policymakers and prognoscators has arrived, and how smart businesses and communies are seizing the opportunies that come with it. Keefe introduces readers to the next generaon of clean energy entrepreneurs and innovators, and takes us to places like Kings Mountain, N.C. and Blue Oval City, Tenn., modern-day clean economy froner towns where batery and electric vehicle factories are sproung from fallow fields and reinvigorang communies previously bypassed by earlier economic shis.

Climatenomics
Washington, Wall Street, and the Economic Batle to Save our planet
By Bob Keefe and Forward by Tom Steyer
The batle against climate change is no longer just an environmental or social issue. As shareholders demand corporaons protect assets against climate change and the economic impact of environmental disasters suck billions of dollars out of the economy, capitalism itself has become an ally. The economic impact of climate change is ratling the foundaon of our economy at its very core. It’s blowing up centuries-old industries from automobiles to oil and gas, creang new opportunies for investors and entrepreneurs. It’s cosng Americans billions of dollars each year. And most importantly, it’s forcing policians to pass long-overdue policies that will transform our businesses, our lives, and our future like never before.

The Unknown Fischer
By Cyrus Lakdawala
It is not really in doubt that Bobby Fischer is one of the greatest (if not the greatest) chess players of all-me. His name is one that it is recognized immediately by almost anyone with even a passing interest in chess. His numerous brilliant games are very well known and have been seen in numerous anthologies.
However, Fischer also played many games that have generally escaped public atenon. These include early games before he was well known, simultaneous games, blitz games as well as many classical games that have simply fallen under the radar.
There is also a match of ten games played against Svetozar Gligoric in Sve Stefan before his famous "re-match" with Boris Spassky. Prolific author Cyrus Lakdawala has tracked down many of these games. They provide fresh material for die hard Fischer fans and provide numerous examples of Fischer's extraordinary chess talent.
Thanks to his remarkable ability to find clear cut plans and strategies in any posion, Fischer somehow managed to make chess look easy. This is a very instrucve anthology.

Rag Manifesto Making, folklore and community
By Rachael Matthews, Kathy Battista
It’s me to reconsider the value of our waste. In the past these were valuable commodies you could sell on. Gathering rag and turning it into yarn was rich in the possibility of making things. This Manifesto is a unique, arst’s view of the tradional art of rag rug making for this age of the Anthropocene. Projects made in the arst’s studio and with a community group, highlight a reverence for our lost texles, a response to the environmental impact of fast fashion and a proof that rag is a rich resource, wrongly classed as a taboo material.
In Rag Manifesto, Rachael Mathews gives us permission to cut up our old fabrics offering a support structure for decision making and a chart on how to make liberang decisions about destroying a garment – be it ‘Worn Out Emoonal’, or ‘Brand New and Guilty’ – and how our acons can develop community as well as our own self-esteem. A modernist interpretaon of rag weaving. European modernist painters, such as Ben and Winifred Nicholson, became interested in rag rug making in the 1920s. Picasso inspired freedom in creavity, using found materials and recognising that ‘primive’ art was highly skilled. The art world missed a trick in not accepng these painterly rag works as true art, and many have been lost. A century later, post pandemic, the need for a community to gather and make texles was strengthened by a shared concern about the texle waste found on the streets where they live.

Human Transit, Revised Edion
How Clearer Thinking about Public Transit Can Enrich Our Communies and Our Lives
By Jarrett Walker
"The much-ancipated update to Jarret Walkers seminal guide to public transportaon. Transportaon expert Jarret Walker believes that transit can be simple, if we focus on the underlying geometry that all transit systems share. In Human Transit, Revised Edition, he provides the basic tools and crical quesons needed to make smarter decisions about designing and implemenng services, refreshed with updated informaon and examples.
The first edion of Human Transit, published in 2011, has become a classic for professionals, advocates, and interested cizens. No other book explains the basic principles of public transit in such lively and accessible prose, all based on a respect for your right to form your own opinion. Walker’s goal is not to make you share his values, but to give you the tools to clarify and advocate for yours. Walker has updated and expanded the book to deepen its explanaons. His ongoing work as a network planning consultant has provided a wealth of new examples, images, and tools. New topics include the problem with specializaon; the role of flexible or “demand response” services; how to know when to redesign your network; and responding to tech-industry claims that transit will soon be obsolete. Finally, he has also added a major new secon exploring the idea of access to opportunity as a core measure of transit’s success.

UFOs
A Scienst Explains What We Know (And Don't Know)
By Robert Powell
Robert Powell, a founding Board member of the Scienfic Coalion for UAP Studies, has studied the UFO subject for 17 years. His work is encapsulated in UFOs: A Scienst Explains What We Know (And Don’t Know) which provides a scienfic raonale for the reality of non-terrestrial cra that are intelligently controlled. Powell begins his book by familiarizing the reader with the history of UFOs and he idenfies the more enigmac and interesng UFO sighngs. He examines the characteriscs of these sighngs that argue against a prosaic explanaon: extreme acceleraon, electromagnec interference, bending light, no obvious propulsion mechanisms, and a lack of interacon with the atmosphere. Powell discusses the recent events that have caused our government to change the term from UFO to UAP. Included is informaon never released indicang the government possesses not just two videos but five videos from 2015 of UFOs operang in the vicinity of the USS Roosevelt nuclear aircra carrier. Powell’s later chapters in the book discuss the extraterrestrial hypothesis considering the thousands of exoplanets that have been discovered in the last twenty years. Powell challenges the reader to consider all the implicaons that must be considered if intelligent life discovers us first. He looks at how we as individuals and as a society react to UFOs. He documents acons taken by our military that include instances when we have fired on UFOs

The Air War in Painngs
By Suzanne Bardgett
At the height of the Second World War, Britain's skies were alight with dogfights, and its towns and cies bustling with the manufacturing of aircra. The distant thunder of Spiires, Hurricanes and bombers became a recurring sound, and rolling landscapes litered with airfields a familiar sight. As the air war transformed Britain's towns and countryside, it also ignited the imaginaons of arsts. The Air War in Paintings reveals how the arsts of the 1940s responded to the unfolding air war in Britain, illuminang their private anxiees, their ambions, and their experiences. Drawing on IWM's unrivalled collecon, this richly illustrated book explores how war arsts recorded and documented all aspects of the vast efforts to build Britain's air capacity at a crucial me in its history.
The Art of Naval Portraiture
By Katherine Gazzard
Portraiture has long been an important tool for creang, supporng, and challenging noons of identy. This book will explore individual and collecve idenes within naval portraiture and how these are shaped by ideas of gender, class, and race. Royal Museums Greenwich holds the largest collecon of naval portraits in the world, including over 600 painngs of officers and sailors in the Royal Navy from the sixteenth century to the present day. These portraits have much to tell us about Britain’s history as a naval power and about the individual experiences of those in service and their families. Innovave and important works of art, for centuries naval portraits have forged, reinforced, and challenged ideas of masculinity, heroism and loyalty and funconed as icons of empire, demonstraons of professionalism and personal mementos for loved ones.

Basic Concepts of Modern Physics Quanta, Parcles, Relavity
By Georg Unger, Hanna Edelglass
Basic Concepts of Modern Physics is an essenal introducon for all those who are interested in gaining a beter understanding of modern physics.
In this unique text, Georg Unger provides clear descripons of the conceptual bases of tweneth-century physics, including quantum mechanics, parcles, and relavity theory, as well as other aspects relang to key physical concepts to phenomena.
Recognizing that quantum mechanical phenomena occur at a boundary between the experienced world and a concurrent world of “subnature” that is not percepble to the senses, Dr. Unger provides a radical, non-reduconist concept of modern physics that is open to spiritual understanding.
“We should go into a short contemplaon of certain habits of thinking and ask: What expresses itself in this adherence to the nineteenth-century idea of mater? To say it radically and thereby naturally be open to misunderstanding it is a weakness of thinking characterisc of our mes.”
Georg Unger.

Biodynamics for Beginners Principles and Pracce
By Hugh J. Courtnery, Stewart Lundy
This collecon of arcles compiled primarily by Hugh Courtney from the periodical Applied Biodynamics introduces the basics of making the essenal biodynamic preparaons. What is discussed in these arcles is much more than just ways to prepare successfully; it also represents, for the most part, Hugh’s way of doing so with lots of praccal ps for success. The arcles are down to earth, literally, with very litle theory, and provide the technical knowhow to make the biodynamic preparaons described by Rudolf Steiner in his Agriculture Course and further developed ever since by several generaons of biodynamic praconers.
“Biodynamics is a reorientaon of agriculture to its primary purpose not commerce, but life. Anthroposophy is not a fanacal movement, nor is it an iconoclasc movement. As Steiner says, we need cow horns to make the biodynamic preparaons, but we do not need to be ‘bull-headed’ about it.”
Stewart Lundy. Biodynamics for Beginners, edited and introduced by Stewart Lundy and liberally illustrated throughout, is the perfect guidebook for anyone who is serious about becoming a successful, hands-on biodynamic farmer or gardener.
