Greetings and happy back-to-school to your families! We’re wrapping up a monumental summer here at Woodloch, the weather this season was as perfect as anyone could ask for. The occasional passing storm brought lake-goers in for a brief stint but no real wash-outs to worry about. We had a great time celebrating 50 years of Woodstock, dishing out plenty of scares on the haunted walk, and dancing endlessly at our silent DJ battles!

It all hit home with a wonderful event one family retold recently. The ultimate mission for all of us here at Woodloch is to provide a prime environment for families (and friends) to become closer and reconnect. One story in particular spoke to this goal perfectly. “My son loves to fish” the mom said, “I never knew that!” She went on to explain that her family is always running from here to there, sports, school, work, and everything else, which leaves little time to really sit and talk with each other. The 11-year-old boy mentioned that he wanted to go fishing so she took him down to the dock, and they sat for a couple hours, talking, bonding. She hasn’t felt that connected to her family since the kids were little toddlers.

My how time flies.

There is great value in families coming together and reconnecting. As our children mature, it’s important we teach them the value of time, especially the time we spend together. Studies have found that families who enjoy group activities together share a stronger emotional bond as well as an ability to adapt well to situations as a family.

One of the best parts of spending family time together, vacationing or even just sharing a consistent meal time together is that it develops positive behaviors in children. Studies done by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse show that teens who have infrequent family dinners are twice as likely to engage in troublesome behavior. Those who regularly spend time together and bond have improved social and even dietary behaviors.

As we say, “together is the best place to be” and clearly it’s beneficial to your whole family.

Let us work to make more time to spend together, it’s good for our health.

In other news, it is with great thanks that we can say that Woodloch was named the Best Family Resort in the United States by USA Today. Wow! It’s a testament to the fraternity of Woodloch - between our staff, our guests and our friends. This is a huge accomplishment that a relatively small family resort in the Pocono Mountains can create a groundswell of support to outshine 4-diamond resorts and major corporate properties such as Disney, Four Seasons and more. Thank you for making us #1!

Now, on to fall. The best place to enjoy the season’s change is right here at Woodloch.

Crisp and cool days are just about perfect for that long-awaited corporate retreat. Get the team together for old fashioned team building, featuring “only at Woodloch” activities such as Boat Building, Minute-2-Win-It, Woodloch Feud and “The Ultimate Woodloch Games.” Enjoy one last seasonal ride on our zipline or climbing wall. Autumn is also a superb time for late season golf at Woodloch Springs- not to mention the beauty of our spa, The Lodge at Woodloch!

Just like the season itself, the arrival of the holidays at Woodloch about as MAGICAL as it gets. Every year, just as the Thanksgiving leftovers are boxed up and the wishbones are cracked, Woodloch begins its (literally) overnight transition to Christmas. Our “elves” transform the resort’s indoor and outdoor décor to a full-on holly jolly spectacle. Black Friday culminates with our first heartwarming “Festival of Lights” illuminated wagon rides, which continue straight through New Years!

As the air grows ever colder, Woodloch fires up its famous red snow cannons to create a winter wonderland”! Over the course of a few weeks, we will shape tens of thousands of gallons of water into frosted peaks for use in our Winter Olympics and TWO snow tubing hills!

And thus, a new year of fun and adventure begins at our resort... to be enjoyed four seasons!

@PumpkinandGray Oh Monday mornings. Can we just go back to Friday and head back to @ woodloch?! If you followed along with my stories, you saw that we got to spend the weekend doing alllllllll the family things in the mountains. Snow tubing, playing at the water park, hitting arcades, ice skating, going to bonfires, riding bumper cars, going to coffee houses, playing in huge playgrounds and enjoying so many wonderful meals together. Truly so sad it’s over but beyond grateful that we were able to create so many memories together! ENORMOUS thank you to @woodloch for hosting us. We had the most amazing time!!!

@GothamLove Have you ever visited a place so special that you wanted to come back with everyone in your family? That’s how I felt about Woodloch Resort in the Pocono Mountains. We’ve always visited with our immediate family, but noticed how people often bring extended family members and they seem to have such a great time. My family only makes it to New York every other year to celebrate the holidays, so I wanted to plan something a little special we would all remember. Before I knew it, airplane tickets were purchased and arrangements were made for my parents to visit Woodloch in the Pocono Mountains with my husband and our three kids. Visiting from Texas, my parents were interested in the cold weather season so it seemed like a perfect plan to spend one of the two “Old Fashioned Holiday weekends” at Woodloch. If you’re looking to capture the magic of the season, then look no further.

Between the holiday activities, Hallmark movie scenery, and Christmas lights everywhere, we were in for a treat!

The days get slightly shorter, the nights just a smidge cooler, and at Woodloch, we bid adieu to many friends- seasonal workers and summer guests alike – until next year. However, along with the sunsets and the accompanying golden hue that paints the Pocono canopy, there is much to be anticipated as we transition into FALL at Woodloch!

Every year, we always hope for a little bit of a “slow burn” fall- after all, water skiing, swimming and sailing on our lake go straight through Columbus Day Weekend. That’s when the true fun of FALL begins! October nights are famous, or should we say, INFAMOUS for our creepy crawly Haunted Hayrides. Hop aboard a wagon with friends and family as we take you on a spooktacular journey through our Nature Trail. Your half-hour ride will snake through a dozen terrifying scenes from some of your favorite Halloween movies and lore. Costumed characters, blinding lights, booming pyrotechnics and more all add to the charm. You’ll laugh (or maybe cry and scream) on this rollercoaster of terror. Woodloch’s “Hallo-Weekends” bring our Boo-Lympic Family Games, Trick-Or-Treating, costume parties and more!

Coffee, what would we do without it? And it’s only getting better.

Coffee is a fundamental part of food culture around the world. People are no longer settling for average coffee. They want high-quality, gourmet coffee, and coffee houses are giving the people what they want!

The gourmet coffee scene is booming in America, with local unique coffee shops sweeping the streets. The National Coffee Association reported that 60% of coffee consumed is gourmet coffee¹. The report shows that we aren’t necessarily drinking more coffee as a whole, but rather drinking more specialized coffee on the go rather than at home. Thus, the reason for the growing number of individually owned coffee shops.

Luckily for you, we know a little place that can take many planning headaches off your shoulders and maybe even make the day more incredible for you and your guests, just because that’s what we do! Woodloch can be described as “the ultimate wedding venue” for a multitude of reasons.

1. THE DESTINATION – One of the best things about a Woodloch wedding is the ability to have family, guests, and even the couple themselves stay at our resort! How great is it to be able to party the night away then hop on a shuttle for a brief five minute ride back to your room?

Woodloch understands this need for the wholesome, high-quality cup of coffee that we all crave, which is why we opened Gigi’s Coffee House. Gigi’s perfectly combines history, family, and love for coffee. Located right outside the Main Lodge, which previously was the home of Mary Kiesendahl’s mother, Grandma Mould, or “Gigi” as her grandchildren called her. As is the case with all of the family members, Gigi was involved with helping out at the resort. She was always in the kitchen helping with food preparation, or making uniforms for the staff, or costumes for the show. She was a pioneer in developing the Woodloch tradition of making guests feel at home. Gigi’s Coffee House has been renovated to capture the essence of who “Gigi” was as a person, which is apparent as soon as you step through the door.

According to the Speciality Coffee Association (SCA), over the past 18 years the number of daily specialty drinkers has seen the strongest overall growth in the coffee market. Only 9% of U.S. adults were drinking specialty coffee on the daily in 1999; in 2017, that number hit 41%². Showing the steady shift to a new wave of coffee, known as “the third wave of coffee.” The third wave of coffee is craft, local, a tad hipster, and definitely more expensive. It’s about producing a high-quality and rich product that is locally sourced in order to differentiate oneself from big brands such as Starbucks and Dunkin’, who mass produce.

Coffee is shifting away from simply being a commodity and becoming an artisanal drink like wine.

The third wave of coffee does not only focus on the results (customers) but rather the entire supply chain process of making a high-quality product (producers, importers, roasters, baristas, and finally the consumers)⁶. Additionally, the third wave is all about hospitality, culture, and the story behind the cup. Coffee shops want to make their customers feel special, at home, and relaxed. Ultimately, they want you to make that specialty coffee into a habit, and most coffee lovers are instantly hooked after the first tasty cup.

STRAWBERRY LEMONADE CAKE Ingredients for cake: 1 cup butter, softened 4 large eggs, separated 2 cups granulated sugar 3 cups cake flour 1 tablespoon baking powder 1/8 teaspoon table salt 1 cup milk 1 tablespoon lemon zest 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice Shortening 2 drop pink food coloring gel (optional) Ingredients for strawberry-lemon jam: 2 1/2 cups coarsely chopped fresh strawberries 3/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice 3 tablespoons cornstarch Ingredients for frosting: 1 (8-oz.) package cream cheese, softened 2/3 cup sugar, divided 2/3 cup chopped fresh strawberries 1 drop pink food coloring gel (optional) 1 1/2 cups heavy cream 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350°. Beat butter at medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy; gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy.

2. Add egg yolks, 1 at a time, beating until blended after each addition. Stir together flour, baking powder, and salt; add to butter mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Beat at low speed just until blended. Stir in zest and juice.

3. Beat egg whites in a large bowl at high speed until stiff peaks form. Gently stir one-third of egg whites into batter; fold in remaining egg whites. Spoon batter into 4 greased (with shortening) and floured 9-inch round cake pans.

4. Bake at 350° for 16 to 20 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pans on wire racks 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire racks, and cool completely.

5. For Strawberry-Lemonade Jam: Process strawberries in a blender until smooth; press through a wiremesh strainer into a 3-qt. saucepan, using back of a spoon to squeeze out juice; discard pulp. Stir in sugar.

Whisk together lemon juice and cornstarch; gradually whisk into strawberry mixture. Bring mixture to a boil over medium heat, and cook, whisking constantly, 1 minute. Remove from heat. Place plastic wrap directly on warm jam; chill 2 hours or until cold. Refrigerate in an airtight container up to 1 week.

6. For Frosting: Beat cream cheese and 1/3 cup sugar with an electric mixer until smooth; add strawberries and food coloring (if desired); beat until blended.

Beat cream and juice at medium speed until foamy; increase speed to medium-high, and slowly add remaining 1/3 cup sugar, beating until stiff peaks form.

Fold half of cream mixture into cheese mixture; fold in remaining cream mixture. Use immediately.

7. Layer Cake: Place 1 cake layer on a serving platter, and spread with about 1/2 cup Strawberry-Lemonade Jam, leaving a 1/2-inch border around edges. Spoon 1 cup Strawberry Frosting into a zip-top plastic freezer bag. Snip 1 corner of bag to make a small hole. Pipe a ring of frosting around cake layer just inside the top edge. Top with second and third cake layers, repeating procedure with filling and frosting between each layer. Top with last cake layer, and spread remaining Strawberry Frosting on top and sides of cake.

Unplugging...something that has become very challenging to do in the age of technology.

All you have to do is look around, and you’ll find an alarming amount of people locked into their screens rather than enjoying their surroundings. Due to its contagious nature, some researchers even have begun labeling “cell phone checking” as the new yawn².

our hand. So the question is how do we find peace and quiet on vacation when we live in such a noisy world? Before we discuss the how to of unplugging, we are going to discuss why unplugging is very beneficial.

THE WHY: Life is happening right in front of you, raw and unedited, and if you are too busy looking down you will miss the precious moments right in front of you. What is vacation for? It is for creating those special memories with the ones you love. When we consciously try to put away those distracting little devices we can find ourselves diving into more authentic and genuine conversation³. It also allows us to be more aware of the beauty that surrounds us. A picture never really captures the feeling of bliss you get when you see a beautiful view on vacation, so slowly savor the moment.

We have become masters of multitasking, our brains crave constant stimulation because that is how we have conditioned them to. A study showed that 88% of U.S. consumers use mobile devices as a second screen even while watching T.V.¹ Devoting your full attention to something is therapeutic, whether it is work, enjoying a novel by the lake, or getting a bit too competitive while playing a game with your kids. When we participate in something without distraction, it is like meditation for our minds. Three main things happen to our brain when it is in a meditative state explains Dr. Rebecca Gladding, a psychiatrist based in Hawaii. First, it allows the fear centers area of the prefrontal cortex to relax, resulting in decreased levels of anxiety³. Second, mediations aids to form a stronger link between your sensory centres and the area of the prefrontal cortex that allows you to look at things logically and balance perspectives³. Third, your brain also forms a stronger connection between your bodily sensations and the part of the prefrontal cortex that processes information about people that are different from you, allowing one to feel more empathetic and relate to others more³. Allowing your brain to wander and experience curiosity without multitasking will grant you better problemsolving skills and clearer ideas, as well as form closer bonds with others. When you allow yourself to get completely caught up in the moment, it will bring you a specific type of joy that we encourage you to experience.

Foliage Enthusiasts

Unplugging is also beneficial for your mental health. We can’t have it all, and sometimes social media tricks us into thinking we should. By not constantly updating yourself on other people’s lives, you can focus on yourself and even learn to accept yourself more. Going on social media less helps decrease feelings of envy and loneliness, and allows us more time for self-reflection, mediation, and other things that are important for our mental health but often lie at the bottom of our priority lists.

They’re called leaf peepers, a term that’s both embraced in their community and poked fun at by the general public. Foliage enthusiasts, if you will. The stereotype screams hipster and middle-aged Americans who flock to the upper Midwest to view the changing of the seasons, often from behind the wide lenses on their cameras. They gather in groups – be it droves of RVs, local guided tours, pull offs on the sides of roads, camping excursions, or hosted Facebook events - they are simply very enthusiastic about the arrival of autumn.

There are also physical benefits to unplugging. Your eyes are often strained from looking at a screen and having excessive blue light exposure. Your neck will get a rest from constantly looking down, and even your posture may improve. Your hands will have a break from perpetual scrolling and typing. Additionally it will free up more time for movement and exercise!

But before you laugh at their expense, they aren’t the only ones with this form of fervor once the summer blues fade. Those of us in four-season states often cannot contain our excitement from late September through October. There’s the humorous pumpkin-spicedeverything culture that surrounds this season. Orange, red, yellow, and brown make their way off the trees and into fashion and décor.

It’s an appreciation of change that isn’t scoffed at by many, and you don’t have to go as far as Northern New England to find it.

THE HOW:

Maybe we’re not all as ardently enthusiastic when it comes to autumn, but that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate the changing of the seasons with zest. Besides, a trip through nature is still a trip after all, and we could all use a little escape before the chaotic holiday stretch that seems to begin earlier and earlier every year.

Ok by now you’re probably thinking this is a lot easier said than done right? Well luckily here is the part where I give you some tips to help diminish that “I’ll be swamped when i get back next week if I don’t check my email twice a day” feeling. When it comes down to it, knowing when to plan your leaf peeping journey, even if you just use it as a casual hobby or an excuse to travel, is the most important part.

First, before you leave for vacation make a to-do list so you have a good idea of what awaits you when you return. Of course there are things that are going to pop up, but by organizing your work it will give you mental relief. Then let your boss and favorite co-workers know that you plan on unplugging and will not be consistently on your email so if they NEED (emphasize need) you to call. You can also schedule check in times with them so you don’t have to worry about the unknown until that designated time. By simply doing these things it will help keep your mind present rather than wondering who needs what from back home.

Technology is a gift, but sometimes we forget that it also has an off button. I think you’ll find that by powering down you are not really missing anything, but instead will be gaining a lot. Sometimes it is more important to be truly present.

Autumn has a special way of gathering everyone at the dinner table. As we fi nd our rhythms with back to school and work activities, we may need some inspiration to answer the ever-pressing question, “what’s for dinner?” Our very own Chef George, from the Woodloch Pines kitchen, and the Woodloch Bakery have created some easy to follow recipes that will satisfy both the savory and sweet tooth. Enjoy!

APPLE & HAM FL ATBREAD

A Taste of Woodloch

Ingredients: 4 Haddock filets (can use cod as well) ½ lb chopped cooked shrimp pieces ½ lb chopped Surimi (imitation crab) or crab meat ½ cup diced celery ¼ cup chopped scallions 1 T Old Bay Seasoning 1 pinch dill 1 T spicy brown mustard 2 dashes Worcestershire ½ cup panko breadcrumbs 1 cup mayonnaise Olive oil Salt and pepper Directions: 1. Preheat your oven to 375 F. Oil a cooking tray and place your haddock filets on it. Drizzle with a little more olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper.

2. While your oven is preheating in a mixing bowl, combine all remaining ingredients and mix well. The seafood stuffing should be wet enough that it can form and hold its shape (if it seems too wet, add a bit more bread crumbs, too dry, a bit more mayo).

3. Top your haddock filets with the seafood crust and pat down slightly.

4. Bake until the internal temperature reaches 140 F (about 15 minutes in a convection oven).

Ingredients: 4 store bought Naan flatbreads 1 Granny Smith apple- ¼ and sliced 1 red onion- sliced ½ lb Capicola ham 1 lb mozzarella cheese ½ lb goat cheese Arugula Balsamic Glaze Directions: 1. Preheat your oven to 450 F. 2. Drizzle a little bit of olive oil on a baking tray and line arrange the Naan bread.

3. Divide the Mozzarella up between the crusts, and add the onions, apple slices, and Capicola ham. Top with goat cheese.

4. Bake in the oven for 6 to 8 minutes until the cheese is starting to brown and crust is beginning to crisp.

5. Remove from the oven and garnish with arugula and balsamic glaze.

STRAWBERRY LEMONADE CAKE Ingredients for cake: 1 cup butter, softened 4 large eggs, separated 2 cups granulated sugar 3 cups cake flour 1 tablespoon baking powder 1/8 teaspoon table salt 1 cup milk 1 tablespoon lemon zest 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice Shortening 2 drop pink food coloring gel (optional) Ingredients for strawberry-lemon jam: 2 1/2 cups coarsely chopped fresh strawberries 3/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice 3 tablespoons cornstarch Ingredients for frosting: 1 (8-oz.) package cream cheese, softened 2/3 cup sugar, divided 2/3 cup chopped fresh strawberries 1 drop pink food coloring gel (optional) 1 1/2 cups heavy cream 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350°. Beat butter at medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy; gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy.

2. Add egg yolks, 1 at a time, beating until blended after each addition. Stir together flour, baking powder, and salt; add to butter mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Beat at low speed just until blended. Stir in zest and juice.

3. Beat egg whites in a large bowl at high speed until stiff peaks form. Gently stir one-third of egg whites into batter; fold in remaining egg whites. Spoon batter into 4 greased (with shortening) and floured 9-inch round cake pans.

4. Bake at 350° for 16 to 20 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pans on wire racks 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire racks, and cool completely.

5. For Strawberry-Lemonade Jam: Process strawberries in a blender until smooth; press through a wiremesh strainer into a 3-qt. saucepan, using back of a spoon to squeeze out juice; discard pulp. Stir in sugar.

Whisk together lemon juice and cornstarch; gradually whisk into strawberry mixture. Bring mixture to a boil over medium heat, and cook, whisking constantly, 1 minute. Remove from heat. Place plastic wrap directly on warm jam; chill 2 hours or until cold. Refrigerate in an airtight container up to 1 week.

6. For Frosting: Beat cream cheese and 1/3 cup sugar with an electric mixer until smooth; add strawberries and food coloring (if desired); beat until blended.

Beat cream and juice at medium speed until foamy; increase speed to medium-high, and slowly add remaining 1/3 cup sugar, beating until stiff peaks form.

Fold half of cream mixture into cheese mixture; fold in remaining cream mixture. Use immediately.

7. Layer Cake: Place 1 cake layer on a serving platter, and spread with about 1/2 cup Strawberry-Lemonade Jam, leaving a 1/2-inch border around edges. Spoon 1 cup Strawberry Frosting into a zip-top plastic freezer bag. Snip 1 corner of bag to make a small hole. Pipe a ring of frosting around cake layer just inside the top edge. Top with second and third cake layers, repeating procedure with filling and frosting between each layer. Top with last cake layer, and spread remaining Strawberry Frosting on top and sides of cake.

our hand. So the question is how do we find peace and quiet on vacation when we live in such a noisy world? Before we discuss the how to of unplugging, we are going to discuss why unplugging is very beneficial.

THE WHY: Life is happening right in front of you, raw and unedited, and if you are too busy looking down you will miss the precious moments right in front of you. What is vacation for? It is for creating those special memories with the ones you love. When we consciously try to put away those distracting little devices we can find ourselves diving into more authentic and genuine conversation³. It also allows us to be more aware of the beauty that surrounds us. A picture never really captures the feeling of bliss you get when you see a beautiful view on vacation, so slowly savor the moment.

We have become masters of multitasking, our brains crave constant stimulation because that is how we have conditioned them to. A study showed that 88% of U.S. consumers use mobile devices as a second screen even while watching T.V.¹ Devoting your full attention to something is therapeutic, whether it is work, enjoying a novel by the lake, or getting a bit too competitive while playing a game with your kids. When we participate in something without distraction, it is like meditation for our minds. Three main things happen to our brain when it is in a meditative state explains Dr. Rebecca Gladding, a psychiatrist based in Hawaii. First, it allows the fear centers area of the prefrontal cortex to relax, resulting in decreased levels of anxiety³. Second, mediations aids to form a stronger link between your sensory centres and the area of the prefrontal cortex that allows you to look at things logically and balance perspectives³. Third, your brain also forms a stronger connection between your bodily sensations and the part of the prefrontal cortex that processes information about people that are different from you, allowing one to feel more empathetic and relate to others more³. Allowing your brain to wander and experience curiosity without multitasking will grant you better problemsolving skills and clearer ideas, as well as form closer bonds with others. When you allow yourself to get completely caught up in the moment, it will bring you a specific type of joy that we encourage you to experience.

Foliage Enthusiasts

Unplugging is also beneficial for your mental health. We can’t have it all, and sometimes social media tricks us into thinking we should. By not constantly updating yourself on other people’s lives, you can focus on yourself and even learn to accept yourself more. Going on social media less helps decrease feelings of envy and loneliness, and allows us more time for self-reflection, mediation, and other things that are important for our mental health but often lie at the bottom of our priority lists.

They’re called leaf peepers, a term that’s both embraced in their community and poked fun at by the general public. Foliage enthusiasts, if you will. The stereotype screams hipster and middle-aged Americans who flock to the upper Midwest to view the changing of the seasons, often from behind the wide lenses on their cameras. They gather in groups – be it droves of RVs, local guided tours, pull offs on the sides of roads, camping excursions, or hosted Facebook events - they are simply very enthusiastic about the arrival of autumn.

There are also physical benefits to unplugging. Your eyes are often strained from looking at a screen and having excessive blue light exposure. Your neck will get a rest from constantly looking down, and even your posture may improve. Your hands will have a break from perpetual scrolling and typing. Additionally it will free up more time for movement and exercise!

But before you laugh at their expense, they aren’t the only ones with this form of fervor once the summer blues fade. Those of us in four-season states often cannot contain our excitement from late September through October. There’s the humorous pumpkin-spicedeverything culture that surrounds this season. Orange, red, yellow, and brown make their way off the trees and into fashion and décor.

It’s an appreciation of change that isn’t scoffed at by many, and you don’t have to go as far as Northern New England to find it.

THE HOW:

The gourmet coffee scene is booming in America, with local unique coffee shops sweeping the streets. The National Coffee Association reported that 60% of coffee consumed is gourmet coffee¹. The report shows that we aren’t necessarily drinking more coffee as a whole, but rather drinking more specialized coffee on the go rather than at home. Thus, the reason for the growing number of individually owned coffee shops.

Woodloch understands this need for the wholesome, high-quality cup of coffee that we all crave, which is why we opened Gigi’s Coffee House. Gigi’s perfectly combines history, family, and love for coffee. Located right outside the Main Lodge, which previously was the home of Mary Kiesendahl’s mother, Grandma Mould, or “Gigi” as her grandchildren called her. Only 9% of U.S. adults were drinking specialty coffee on the daily in 1999; in 2017, that number hit 41%². Showing the steady shift to a new wave of coffee, known as “the third wave of coffee.”

Snow tubing, playing at the water park, hitting arcades, ice skating, going to bonfires, riding bumper cars, going to coffee houses, playing in huge playgrounds and enjoying so many wonderful meals together. Truly so sad it’s over but beyond grateful that we were able to create so many memories together! ENORMOUS thank you to @woodloch for hosting us. We had the most amazing time!!!

@GothamLove Have you ever visited a place so special that you wanted to come back with everyone in your family? That’s how I felt about Woodloch Resort in the Pocono Mountains. We’ve always visited with our immediate family, but noticed how people often bring extended family members and they seem to have such a great time. My family only makes it to New York every other year to celebrate the holidays, so I wanted to plan something a little special we would all remember. Before I knew it, airplane tickets were purchased and arrangements were made for my parents to visit Woodloch in the Pocono Mountains with my husband and our three kids. Visiting from Texas, my parents were interested in the cold weather season so it seemed like a perfect plan to spend one of the two “Old Fashioned Holiday weekends” at Woodloch. If you’re looking to capture the magic of the season, then look no further.

Between the holiday activities, Hallmark movie scenery, and Christmas lights everywhere, we were in for a treat!

The days get slightly shorter, the nights just a smidge cooler, and at Woodloch, we bid adieu to many friends- seasonal workers and summer guests alike – until next year. However, along with the sunsets and the accompanying golden hue that paints the Pocono canopy, there is much to be anticipated as we transition into FALL at Woodloch!

Every year, we always hope for a little bit of a “slow burn” fall- after all, water skiing, swimming and sailing on our lake go straight through Columbus Day Weekend. That’s when the true fun of FALL begins! October nights are famous, or should we say, INFAMOUS for our creepy crawly Haunted Hayrides. Hop aboard a wagon with friends and family as we take you on a spooktacular journey through our Nature Trail. Your half-hour ride will snake through a dozen terrifying scenes from some of your favorite Halloween movies and lore. Costumed characters, blinding lights, booming pyrotechnics and more all add to the charm. You’ll laugh (or maybe cry and scream) on this rollercoaster of terror. Woodloch’s “Hallo-Weekends” bring our Boo-Lympic Family Games, Trick-Or-Treating, costume parties and more!

Crisp and cool days are just about perfect for that long-awaited corporate retreat. Get the team together for old fashioned team building, featuring “only at Woodloch” activities such as Boat Building, Minute-2-Win-It, Woodloch Feud and “The Ultimate Woodloch Games.” Enjoy one last seasonal ride on our zipline or climbing wall. Autumn is also a superb time for late season golf at Woodloch Springs- not to mention the beauty of our spa, The Lodge at Woodloch!

Just like the season itself, the arrival of the holidays at Woodloch about as MAGICAL as it gets. Every year, just as the Thanksgiving leftovers are boxed up and the wishbones are cracked, Woodloch begins its (literally) overnight transition to Christmas. Our “elves” transform the resort’s indoor and outdoor décor to a full-on holly jolly spectacle. Black Friday culminates with our first heartwarming “Festival of Lights” illuminated wagon rides, which continue straight through New Years!

As the air grows ever colder, Woodloch fires up its famous red snow cannons to create a winter wonderland”! Over the course of a few weeks, we will shape tens of thousands of gallons of water into frosted peaks for use in our Winter Olympics and TWO snow tubing hills!

And thus, a new year of fun and adventure begins at our resort... to be enjoyed four seasons!

@girlgonechildinnyc Thanks @woodloch for the most magical weekend. NYC parents they make everything soooo easy there and it’s only a 2.5 hour drive from the city. Most vacations I spend the entire time planning activities for the kids and feeding them every hour. Woodloch has everything planned out for you! From your 3 meals a day, Winter Olympics, jewelry making, bumper cars, go karts, indoor pools, splash pads, karaoke, family feud, snow tubing family bake off, bowling and ice skating we did it all. Making Mother’s Day memories @woodloch may turn into a tradition!

Greetings and happy back-to-school to your families! We’re wrapping up a monumental summer here at Woodloch, the weather this season was as perfect as anyone could ask for. The occasional passing storm brought lake-goers in for a brief stint but no real wash-outs to worry about. We had a great time celebrating 50 years of Woodstock, dishing out plenty of scares on the haunted walk, and dancing endlessly at our silent DJ battles!

It all hit home with a wonderful event one family retold recently. The ultimate mission for all of us here at Woodloch is to provide a prime environment for families (and friends) to become closer and reconnect. One story in particular spoke to this goal perfectly. “My son loves to fish” the mom said, “I never knew that!” She went on to explain that her family is always running from here to there, sports, school, work, and everything else, which leaves little time to really sit and talk with each other. The 11-year-old boy mentioned that he wanted to go fishing so she took him down to the dock, and they sat for a couple hours, talking, bonding. She hasn’t felt that connected to her family since the kids were little toddlers.

My how time flies.

There is great value in families coming together and reconnecting. As our children mature, it’s important we teach them the value of time, especially the time we spend together. Studies have found that families who enjoy group activities together share a stronger emotional bond as well as an ability to adapt well to situations as a family.

One of the best parts of spending family time together, vacationing or even just sharing a consistent meal time together is that it develops positive behaviors in children. Studies done by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse show that teens who have infrequent family dinners are twice as likely to engage in troublesome behavior. Those who regularly spend time together and bond have improved social and even dietary behaviors.

As we say, “together is the best place to be” and clearly it’s beneficial to your whole family.

Let us work to make more time to spend together, it’s good for our health.

In other news, it is with great thanks that we can say that Woodloch was named the Best Family Resort in the United States by USA Today. Wow! It’s a testament to the fraternity of Woodloch - between our staff, our guests and our friends. This is a huge accomplishment that a relatively small family resort in the Pocono Mountains can create a groundswell of support to outshine 4-diamond resorts and major corporate properties such as Disney, Four Seasons and more. Thank you for making us #1!

Now, on to fall. The best place to enjoy the season’s change is right here at Woodloch.
