Head of School Notes -- Julie Ambler It is a year-end tradition at Woodlands Christian for the Head of School to discern and announce a spiritual theme for the upcoming school year. The hope is to perceive a theme that will guide our school, faculty and students to grow more like Jesus “in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.” (Luke 2:52) Throughout the year, we reinforce these themes in chapel, staff devotions and the classrooms. Previous themes included Edify (Ephesians 4:29), Authenticity (Matthew 5:16), Relationships (Matthew 18:20), Transformation (Romans 12:2), Prayerfulness (James 5:16b) and Integrity (Psalm 25:21). The theme for the 2012-2013 school year is Grateful, and the scripture verse comes from Psalm 100:4-5 (NIV) Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. Outward expressions of thankfulness remind us of our great need for God and keep us humble before Him and the people around us. A grateful heart is thankful for all benefits and kindnesses we receive, and in turn desires to bless others. Sincere gratitude can produce a truly intimate relationship with Christ.
the host of prayer warriors, generous financial supporters, a beautiful 40-acre campus, permanent and modular buildings, athletic facilities, technology and teaching tools, incredible faculty and staff, and supportive families and students at Woodlands Christian. As individuals, we each possess unique gifts, talents, relationships and blessings that we can develop and use to bless others. As Christians, God gave the ultimate sacrifice to free us from our sinful nature. Jesus Christ died on the cross in order to take away our sin. Christians can be thankful to God that He loved us so much that he gave his Son so we may live. Furthermore, He is the initiator and finisher of our faith. God is utterly worthy of all praise that proceeds from our hearts and lips. His grace is powerful enough to change our lives and to present us faultless before His throne. At Woodlands Christian, we want to be a blessing to God and others as we focus on developing and expressing grateful hearts of thanksgiving. In the words of Philip Yancey, “If we comprehend what Christ has done for us, then surely out of gratitude we will strive to live 'worthy' of such great love. We will strive for holiness not to make God love us but because He already does.”
As a school, we are blessed with a foundation built on Christ. This is evidenced by
