Woodlands Christian Cross Country - Varsity Girls 2014 TAPPS 3A State Champions
What an incredible season. As runner-up at last year’s state meet, the girls’ varsity team had a solid goal and focus this year - to win the state championship. We knew there was tough competition and our team was not as deep with the number of runners as other schools, but the girls continued to push and encourage each other. In fact, the majority of the season the girls’ team ran workouts with the boys’ team to push themselves even harder. We celebrate their achievement of a state title but also know the commitment, dedication and sacrifice it took to get there. Congratulations to sophomore Hannah Shearer for being named 1st team All-State and finishing in 7th place overall with a time of 13 minutes, 14.6 seconds. Rounding out the top five finishers were juniors Hailey Hanigan (16th place), Alyssa Regier (20th place), Riley Farra (21st place), and freshman Danielle Wassell (47th place). The varsity boys also competed well with Sam Mueck setting a season best record, and Grant Galassini and Patrick O’Connor setting personal record times on the very difficult state meet course. We now have a solid program from middle school through high school and know that the future of cross country at Woodlands Christian is strong....Warrior Strong.

Lower School News Early Childhood On The Move!
Kindergarten students recently enjoyed a wonderful field trip to the Oil Ranch.
Pre-kindergarten students had a great time on their field trip to P6 Farms.

Upper School News Spanish Class Tastes Colombian Culture Students in Mr. Nelson Patino’s high school Spanish classes literally got a taste of Colombian culture by participating in a class project. Under the supervision of Mr. Patino, the students prepared aguapanela con queso, a traditional morning drink from Colombia. Ingredients for the drink are simple, boiling water and panela, a cone shaped block of unrefined whole cane sugar. Queso panela (a white, smooth cheese) and cinnamon may be added to the drink after it has been poured into a cup. (See photos at right.) For the next seven weeks, students will prepare food and drink from other Latin American countries. In addition, the students will view a Spanish language film, and re-enact their favorite scene in Spanish. Each student will also create an iBook, a digital booklet, or a Keynote presentation in Spanish, explaining what they have learned during these seven weeks. Information submitted by Nelson Patino.

Library News Annual Book Fair Set To Begin!

Tuesday, November 4 - Friday, November 7 7:45 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
The book fair closes at noon on Friday, November 7 Students in the lower and middle schools will attend the book fair with their classes to make a wish list or shop. Each student will bring home his/her wish list to share with you, and the library will also keep a copy. Students may come to the library at other times during the week with permission from their teacher. Parents are welcome to attend the book fair! Visit the fair’s online site by clicking here!

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT NEWS Warriors Remain Unbeaten The Warriors kept their unbeaten streak alive with a 55-19 victory over Rosehill Christian this past Friday. The team’s record is now 8-0 overall and 5-0 in district play. The final two games of the regular season will be played on the road. The Warriors travel to Lutheran North on Friday, October 31. They will then make the short trip to Legacy Prep for their final regular season game on November 7. Scheduled kick-off time for both games is 7:00 p.m.

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT NEWS Booster Club 3rd Annual Golf Tournament On a beautiful and sunny October afternoon, approximately 140 golfers gathered at the Augusta Pines golf course for the 3rd Annual Woodlands Christian Booster Club Golf Tournament. Coaches and members of our golf team participated along with parents, grandparents and community friends. The Booster Club is grateful for the generous support shown for our Woodlands Christian athletes. It is the Booster Club’s goal to have an impact on each and every athlete at our school. Thanks to everyone who participated in and supported this fantastic event!
