Woodlands Christian Cross Country - Varsity Girls 2014 TAPPS 3A State Champions
What an incredible season. As runner-up at last year’s state meet, the girls’ varsity team had a solid goal and focus this year - to win the state championship. We knew there was tough competition and our team was not as deep with the number of runners as other schools, but the girls continued to push and encourage each other. In fact, the majority of the season the girls’ team ran workouts with the boys’ team to push themselves even harder. We celebrate their achievement of a state title but also know the commitment, dedication and sacrifice it took to get there. Congratulations to sophomore Hannah Shearer for being named 1st team All-State and finishing in 7th place overall with a time of 13 minutes, 14.6 seconds. Rounding out the top five finishers were juniors Hailey Hanigan (16th place), Alyssa Regier (20th place), Riley Farra (21st place), and freshman Danielle Wassell (47th place). The varsity boys also competed well with Sam Mueck setting a season best record, and Grant Galassini and Patrick O’Connor setting personal record times on the very difficult state meet course. We now have a solid program from middle school through high school and know that the future of cross country at Woodlands Christian is strong....Warrior Strong.
