Head Of School Notes - by Julie Ambler For the first time in Woodlands Christian history, we achieved 100% participation in our annual fund campaign from our board, faculty/staff and families! I am grateful to everyone for so generously supporting the students of Woodlands Christian. I especially appreciate Kelly and Charles Owens for chairing our campaign and for donating Core Lending’s marketing team to create our campaign website and videos. I am also grateful to our PTF and homeroom moms who so enthusiastically contacted our families, encouraging everyone to participate. Thank you, Ken Melber, for serving as our Grandparent Chair in memory of Ruthie Melber. We raised a total of $336,765, including $96,315 of undesignated dollars, which I have evenly allocated among all five categories. Here are the results for each bucket: Need-Based Financial Aid (Goal $50,000): We raised $48,978 in need-based financial aid. These funds will be available to qualified applicants for the 2016 – 2017 school year. Fine Arts (Goal $75,000): We raised $57,253 for fine arts. We look forward to prioritizing our fine arts’ needs and shopping soon. STEM (Goal $75,000): We raised $100,043 for STEM. We plan to purchase items such as more digital lab equipment/ sensors/probe ware, a Spectrometer, a chromatograph, a 3-D printer, a SMART table, a digital telescope, an interactive topographical map, virtual reality suits, graphing calculators, robotics materials,
additional microscopes, classroom sets of iPads, and other cutting-edge lab equipment to use in the classrooms this school year. Athletics (Goal $150,000): We raised $51,008 to help complete the new stands. We raised enough money to add concrete walkways underneath and around the stands for a cost of approximately $30,000. We will hold the remaining $21,000 until we have enough funds to complete sections of the 2,000 square feet inside the stands to include concessions, a multi-purpose exercise room, and storage. Debt Reduction (Goal $100,000): We raised $79,483 to reduce our approximately $2.6 million first lien loan with Woodforest Bank. We look forward to making this additional principal reduction payment immediately. Congratulations to the classes who reached 100% participation first in each school division – 1st grade, 8th grade and 12th grade – and to the 6th grade class for contributing the most money. The entire student body will celebrate our success with Kona Ice, dunking booths and other activities on Friday, October 23 from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. Thank you for modeling generosity to our students and for enhancing their educational experience through your support of The Warrior Fund. High School - First Class To Reach 100% Participation - 12th Grade All class members will have an opportunity to dunk Mr. Clark and four other individuals of their choosing in the dunk tank. Class With The Most Dollars Raised - 6th Grade All class members will have an opportunity to dunk Mr. Zeal.

Lower School News First & Second Grade Students Explore Biology First grade students recently participated in a very exciting lab on the characteristics of fish. Each student identified the essential components of a fish’s body and described the function of each feature. (See photos below first row.) In second grade, students investigated the responses of earthworms to the influences of light and dark and wet and dry stimuli. (See photos second row.) Upper School News
Catapulting Physics Mrs. Masau’s AP Physics class recently completed a unit on motion in two dimensions by building catapults to launch projectiles (baseballs). With time and horizontal distance data measured in the field, the students determined the maximum height reached and their baseball’s initial and final velocity. A small component of their grade was based on their distance ranking. Luke Hudson and Kyle Clark’s catapult (a trebuchet style) threw a baseball 57m (187 feet) for the winning distance! Spirit Week Despite the short week and taking the PSAT, high school students made the most of their two homecoming week themed dress days with Superhero day on Tuesday and Wizard of Oz day on Thursday. All students in lower, middle and high school will show their Warrior homecoming spirit by dressing in green and gold on Friday. Check out our Facebook page for more photos!

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT NEWS Warriors Set To Face Legacy Christian With their 39-6 victory over Bay Area Christian last Friday night, the Warriors’ district record now stands at 3-0. The homecoming game with Legacy Christian on Friday, October 16 will take on even more significance as both teams are undefeated in district play. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. You won’t want to miss a minute of what promises to be an exciting gridiron contest as the Warriors from Woodlands Christian battle the Warriors from Legacy Christian for the top spot in TAPPS 3A, District 4.
Warrior Cross Country Highlights The cross country season is nearing its end! On Tuesday, the middle school concluded their season with the Houston Area Private School district championship. Both the girls and boys teams were district champions! (See photos at left.) Individual medals were also awarded to those finishing in the top ten. Those team members earning medals are as follows: Ellie Catron, Avery Blake, Danielle Ferebee, Josh Mueck, Ben Shearer, Benjamin Butcher, and Preston Culberson. The many early mornings, hard workouts and dedication clearly showed with our athletes performing well against their competition.
The varsity runners competed in the Faith West Academy Invitational last Saturday. Against twenty of the larger private schools in the area, the girls’ team finished in fifth place and the boys’ finished in seventh place overall. (See photo below.) Individual medalists were Hannah Shearer and Olivia Gregory who each finished in the top ten. Up next for the varsity team is the St. John’s Ramble on Saturday, Oct 17 followed by the TAPPS 3A-District Championship which will be held at our campus on Saturday, Oct 24. The season will conclude with the TAPPS State Championship on Saturday, Oct 31.

Warrior Volleyball Update The Warrior varsity volleyball team split their recent matches with a win over Logos Prep (3-1) on October 8 and a loss in their home match with St. Thomas Episcopal (0-3) on October 13. The Warriors are in third place in district with three matches remaining. The team travels to Lutheran North on Thursday, October 15 and will close out the regular season at home with matches against St. Joseph on Tuesday, October 20 and Faith West on Thursday, October 22.
