Grandparents Day 2015 Grandparents Day at Woodlands Christian is always a special time. On Friday, November 6 grandparents and grandfriends gathered in the David Gym where they were greeted with the sounds of piano music from Mrs. Moree Simon’s music theory class. Pre-kindergarten through fourth grade students, under the direction of Mrs. Nancy Casey, charmed the audience with a delightful selection of old fashioned Sunday School songs. Following the program, students welcomed their grandparents to their classrooms and took them on a scavenger hunt around campus. It was a truly wonderful day! Grandchildren are the crown of grandparents, and parents are the glory of their children. Proverbs 17:6 (God’s Word Translation)

Lower School News Early childhood students have been exercising their brains and their bodies! In Mr. Roach’s science lab, kindergarten students stretched their brains by engineering structures of their own design using gummie bears. On their field trip to P-6 Farms, Pre-K students had an opportunity to stretch their legs as they walked through a corn stalk maze, enjoyed a hay-ride and slid down a roller slide. High School Students Serve Others On Monday evenings, high school students gather on campus for Facedown, a student-led time of prayer, worship and devotions. (See photo at left). The group has also reached out to serve in a number of ways. First, this past weekend a small group from Facedown washed dishes and cleaned the camp at Pine Cove Outback for two groups on a weekend retreat (See photo below left). There was a lot of work to be done washing dishes and cleaning the dining room after each meal for the 150 in attendance. Our group’s service allowed the Pine Cove guests to focus on their retreat time and they were very appreciative of our help. Further, this last Monday evening, the Facedown group got together to sort and pack a number of shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child (See photo below right). Senior Seminar Students Receive Insight From Alumna The Senior Seminar class recently welcomed guest speaker, Mackenzie Plum, TWCA Class of 2011. Mackenzie is a University of Arkansas graduate and now works as a Registered Nurse with Texas Children’s Hospital. She shared many insights based on her college experiences relating to study skills, healthy living habits, and finding friends and a church group. Her practical advice centered around owning one’s faith, planning ahead for classes, utilizing your support system and, eating and sleeping well. Thank you, Mackenzie! Middle School Happenings
Using a scale factor of five, students in Mrs. Yearwood’s 6th grade math class tested their knowledge of proportion and scale to create drawings of candy wrappers which they then displayed on the wall in their classroom. Information & photo submitted by Cassandra Yearwood.
Grandparents’ Day came early for fifth grade student Mark Wyrick when his grandmother, Celia Ellis, visited his history class to give a presentation on her recent safari in Botswana. Fifth grade students have been learning about the continent of Africa and Mrs. Ellis’ presentation was a great way to finish their study. In addition, Mark used his MacBook Air skills to teach his grandmother how to prepare her presentation in Keynote! Information & photo submitted by Amy Wyrick.

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT NEWS Warriors Advance To Playoffs
The Warriors clinched a spot in the TAPPS 3A playoffs with a decisive 49-28 victory over Legacy Prep last Friday night. The team will now face Sacred Heart Catholic High School in a first round playoff game on Friday, November 13. The game will be played at Brahma Memorial Stadium in Halletsville, Texas. Warrior Basketball Season Now Underway The Warrior varsity boys and girls basketball season has begun! The boys’ team is on the road this week for the Christian Academy of San Antonio tournament Thursday and Friday, November 12-13. They will play their first home game of the season on Tuesday, November 17 against Salt & Light Homeschool Sports. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The Warrior varsity girls’ team already has scored their first win of the season by defeating the Andrew Rodman American School 34-28 on Wednesday, November 11. Their next match up is against Covenant Christian on Saturday, November 14. The game will be played at Covenant Christian in Conroe. The team welcomes Bellville High School for a home game on Tuesday, November 17. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. It’s going to be an exciting season of basketball so come out and support your Warriors!
