Gala
Woodlands Christian| April 25, 2015
Each year, The Woodlands Christian Academy holds an Auction & Gala to promote fellowship and raise funds for our school. This year’s auction will be held on Saturday, April 25 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott. Thanks to Gayle and Steve Brand for chairing the event! (See photo at center.) I am also grateful to Robin and Mark Bennett for chairing our next auction in 2016. Historically, we have always included a fund-a-need, financing improvements such as locker rooms, technology, transportation, playgrounds, professional development, etc. This year, 100% of our auction proceeds will be applied toward our greatest fund-aneed, which is a track. A track will benefit every student at The Woodlands Christian Academy, from preschool through 12th grade, and every athlete, from golfers to volleyball players to runners. With more than 80 participants last spring, track is also our school’s largest competitive sport. According to our students, a track is their highest priority for improving our campus. Installing a 400-meter eight-lane track is expensive. Our first requirement is to fix the drainage on the football field at a cost of $550,000. The cost of the track itself, including a state-of-the-art surface and various jump areas is $1,000,000, for a cumulative total of $1,550,000. Of course, as good stewards, we will not spend more than we
raise but, since I have already been asked, if we receive more than this amount, the cost of stadium seating for 1,500 with a press box would be about $550,000 and the cost of turf on the football field would be $500,000. Last spring, we raised $875,000 at our Roaring Twenties Auction & Gala. This year, Richie’s Pharmacy has generously agreed to sponsor our auction with $100,000, enabling us to cover all of our direct auction costs; thus, every subsequent dollar raised for the auction will be applied toward the track project. Additionally, we will add the $130,688 given in excess of our annual fund goal to the auction. As well, our Booster Club has offered to contribute 100% of their net proceeds from the Sporting Clay Tournament in February toward the track. There will also be sponsorship and naming opportunities for our auction as well as for the track. To learn more about these opportunities, please click here. To visually build upon our goal of funding a track and in recognition of the Kentucky Derby that will be held one week after our auction, this year’s theme is The Warrior Derby. Plan to wear your biggest hats and seersucker suits and, please, help us finish the race to give our students a 400-meter eight-lane track at The Woodlands Christian Academy!
