Back To The Cross Under the direction of Mrs. Nancy Casey, lower school students presented Back To The Cross on Thursday, May 14 at StoneBridge Church. This year marked the twelfth consecutive musical production performed by our lower school students. Back to the Cross is a time-traveling escapade which takes the audience on a wild ride through strange times and cultures (including the totally tubular 1980s, the roaring ‘20s, the wild, wild west, and even the Garden of Gethsemane!), all leading to a point of discovery about the importance of the Cross and the message of the Gospel. It was a wonderful evening of high spirited music with a message. Thanks to all who worked so tirelessly to make Back To The Cross a great success!

Annie, Jr. On Friday and Saturday, May 15 and 16, the upper school theatre arts department presented Annie, Jr. Based on the popular comic strip by Harold Gray, little orphan Annie charms everyone’s hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. With the help of the other girls in the New York City Orphanage, Annie foils Miss Hannigan’s evil schemes and finds a new home with billionaire Oliver Warbucks. Bravo to the student cast and crew! Many thanks to Susie King and Heidi Sweet for their diligent efforts in making this production a tremendous success.

The sets for Annie, Jr. had a decidedly 1930s feel. They were inspired by the art of Al Hirschfeld the caricaturist best known for his black and white portraits of celebrities and Broadway stars. Hirschfeld was known for hiding his daughter Nina’s name in most of the drawings he produced after her birth. Look closely and see if you can find the NINAs! Special thanks to Mr. Richard Hollas and the Woodlands Christian Booster Club for providing the labor and funds to construct the set. Thanks also to the students, parents and staff who contributed many hours to paint and decorate the set. Information provided by Melinda Cohea.

Senior class members and their fathers were treated to a special breakfast prepared by junior class dads. Thanks to all the dads who made this a very memorable event for their graduating seniors. After enjoying their breakfast, the Class of 2015 boarded a chartered bus for a day of fun and lunch at the Kemah Boardwalk.

Rowe Named Rotary Teacher Of The Year Amy Rowe, high school English teacher, has been named Teacher of the Year by The Woodlands Chapter of the Rotary Club. Mrs. Rowe has been a member of the Woodlands Christian faculty for the past four years. In addition to her teaching duties, Mrs. Rowe is the faculty sponsor of our Interact Club. She holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and psychology from Houston Baptist University and a Master of Arts degree in organizational management from the University of Phoenix. “As a teacher, I live for those ‘aha’ moments. Witnessing the light switch come on in a student’s head as his or her hand flies up with the hope of sharing something special is a true joy for me and confirms that I am blessed to have one of the greatest careers in the world!” Congratulations Mrs. Rowe!
