Head of School Announces Theme for 2015-2016 Throughout our school’s history, the Head of School has been charged with discerning a spiritual theme for the year. By tradition, this theme reflects a priority for our school overall and a focus for the development of student character. This theme is reiterated during the school year at chapel, in the classrooms and on the playing fields. Our theme this year has been humility. Our school and our students have been abundantly blessed. We have strived to help our students to recognize the true source of their blessings and encouraged them to use those blessings to serve others. As we build upon humility and look around us, we know that our students are made for so much more than the ordinary life offered by today’s popular culture. At Woodlands Christian, we want to see our students experience Jesus Christ working mightily in their lives so they may flourish and prosper. By grounding each student in God’s word, reminding them of Christ’s love, and helping them to discover their unique gifts and talents, we hope to stretch them beyond spiritual head knowledge to discover a richer, more meaningful life in the eyes of God. We
hope to prepare them, not only to withstand the challenges of this life but also to thrive and produce abundant fruit for the kingdom. Hence, our theme for 2015-2016 is thrive and our Scripture verse is Jeremiah 17:7-8
!
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.
!It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. !It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
!
Please join us in prayer as we ask the Holy Spirit to unleash His unlimited power into the lives of our Woodlands Christian community so we can equip leaders – spiritually, academically, physically and socially – to thrive for His glory.
Congratulations Varsity Boys Track & Field TAPPS 3A State Champions!

Bugs, Bubbles and High Tea Early childhood and elementary students have been busy lately! As part of their science lessons, pre-k and kindergarten classes had a visit from Bugs On Wheels presented by the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Students learned about insects, and how they use camouflage and mimicry to protect themselves from predators. They even got to pet Peanut, the tarantula, as well as a millepede, a prickly stick bug, a hissing cockroach, and a leaf bug. (See photos at left.) The Girls Interested In Real Life Science Club learned about surface tension by analyzing soap bubbles. The girls were challenged to discover the different ways in which to modify the formation of the bubbles they created. (See photos first row below.) The library was the picture of grace and charm as Mr. Williams’ fourth grade students enjoyed a proper British tea to celebrate the completion of the book Secrets at Sea by Richard Peck. The story is about a family crossing the Atlantic in order to find an English husband for their daughter and is told through the eyes of the mice aboard the ship. (See photos second row below.)
