Theme For The 2016-2017 School Year - by Julie Ambler It is a year-end tradition at Woodlands Christian for the Head of School to discern and announce a spiritual theme for the upcoming school year. The hope is to perceive a theme that will guide our school, faculty and students to grow more like Jesus in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man. (Luke 2:52) Throughout the year, we reinforce these themes at chapel, in the classrooms, on the playing fields and in staff devotions. Our theme this year has been thrive. At The Woodlands Christian Academy, we want to see our students experience Jesus Christ working mightily in their lives so they may flourish and prosper. By grounding each student in God’s word, reminding them of Christ’s love, and helping them to discover their unique gifts and talents, we hope to stretch them beyond spiritual head knowledge to discover a richer, more meaningful life in the eyes of God. We hope to prepare them, not only to withstand the challenges of this life but also to thrive and produce abundant fruit for the kingdom. In order to thrive, our students need encouragement to take risks, try new activities, learn from failure, set high goals, and boldly share their faith with a dark and confused world. As Christians, we have the answer – in the person of Jesus Christ - which our world so desperately seeks. Let’s help our students to trust and live their faith. Let’s equip our students to go out into the world and fearlessly share the Gospel. Our theme for 2016-2017 is Courageous, and our Scripture verse is Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” Please join us in prayer as we ask the Holy Spirit to unleash godly courage into the lives of our Woodlands Christian community so we can inspire leaders – spiritually, academically, physically and socially – to stand bravely in all circumstance for His glory. “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)

Senior Chapel 2016 The Class of 2016 presented their senior chapel on Tuesday, May 10. The ceremony was opened in prayer by Hailey Gaige. (See photo at left.) Matthew Dew and Shelby Newcomb followed with a reading of the class scriptures. Riley Farra presented the Senior Challenge to the Class of 2016 (See photo below left). The service was highlighted by a special video presentation featuring the senior class. Parker Carroway closed the service with prayer. In keeping with Woodlands Christian tradition, the senior class passed the torch to the junior class signifying the passing of leadership from the Class of 2016 to the Class of 2017. (See photos below.) The graduating class will be honored at a baccalaureate service on Friday, May 27 at 6:00 p.m. Commencement exercises are scheduled for Saturday, May 28 at 4:00 p.m. Both events will be held at Crossroads Baptist Church.

National Junior Honor Society Serves Others
Members of the National Junior Honor Society, in conjunction with the Woodlands Church, have given their time this spring to serve a program called Block-life. This program is aimed at bringing people to Christ, right where they live. In February, NJHS members made prayer boxes and provided lunch for residents of the Fawn Ridge Apartments. In April, members hosted a morning filled with outdoor games and food for the residents. The NJHS would like to extend a huge thank you to Mrs. Allison Dechiro for her help in coordinating these activities with the Woodlands Church and to Mrs. Tania Bryngelson for organizing all the food served at the Block-life events. Middle School Students Share Stories With Kindergarten
Students in Mrs. Yearwood’s Bible class applied their knowledge of character traits studied throughout the year by creating fictional stories relevant to the character trait of their choice. Some of the character traits discussed were honesty, confidence, obedience, kindness, patience, and loyalty, just to name a few. The students shared their stories with Mrs. Laugen’s kindergarten class on Wednesday, May 11 and will also share them with other students from kindergarten through 2nd grade in the coming days. Senior Student Honored By Local Business Organization
Brooke Farrelly, Class of 2016, has been honored, by the Montgomery County Association of Business Women (MCABW) with a $1,000 scholarship for her collegiate studies this fall. Brooke was selected from among the many eligible candidates in the Montgomery County area from both public and private schools. Many thanks to the generous women of MCABW. Woodlands Christian Librarian Participates In Community Event
Hats Off To Reading is an annual, community event sponsored by CISD, the Montgomery County Memorial Library System, The Woodlands Christian Academy, Junior League of the Woodlands, the Caney Creek High School Art Honor Society, and the Pavilion Partners to get kids excited about reading and books! The Woodlands Christian Academy participated in the event by donating paperback books, blowing up balloons, and our librarian Mrs. Gina Lunsford manned the Go Fish booth! (See above photo.) Warrior Girls’ Track Team Earns Second Place At State Meet This past weekend our varsity track & field teams competed at the TAPPS state finals and did great! Our girls’ team had its best finish ever! Out of the 36 schools in TAPPS 3A we battled hard and came home with state runner-up honors! (See photo below.) Warrior Baseball & Softball Seasons Come To A Close The Warrior varsity baseball and softball teams have recently ended their seasons. In the team’s first ever district playoff appearance on May 4, the Warrior softball team suffered a 0-10 loss to Schertz St. Paul. Despite the playoff disappointment, Warrior softball had an outstanding season, and the team is looking forward to coming back strong in 2017. The Warrior baseball team advanced to the second round of the playoffs with their 14-0 win over Our Lady of the Hills on Friday, May 6. The team fought hard in their game with Austin Brentwood Christian on May 10 but came up short with a 4-5 loss which ended their season. The future looks bright for Warrior baseball with the team and fans alike looking forward with much anticipation to next season. Way to go Warrior baseball and softball!
