Chapel at Woodlands Christian The mission statement of The Woodlands Christian Academy reads as follows: The Woodlands Christian Academy is an independent, Christ-centered college preparatory school that integrates learning with biblical faith and challenges our students to reach their highest potential spiritually, academically, physically and socially - for the glory of Jesus Christ. Our weekly chapels provide students with a unique opportunity to worship together on a regular basis. In addition to student led praise and worship time, upper school students delve deeper into spiritual matters in small group discussions facilitated by faculty members.

Lower school chapel is a time of praise, learning and fun! Pastor Brian Dunn engages students with high energy songs and illustrated Bible lessons. He recently used students to demonstrate the battle between David and Goliath (see below right). Student singers help to lead worship and, Pastor Brian is taking the music of lower school chapel to a new level by forming a student praise band! (See photos at bottom of page.)

Chapel is the culmination of the Woodlands Christian mission where students of all ages use their talents; draw closer to one another; learn Biblical truths and worship the Lord together.

Upper School News CSI - Woodlands Christian The high school chemistry classes have been working on the application of their current study topics in Forensic Science. So far each chemistry class has completed several forensic labs. The Pre-AP chemistry sophomores have successfully determined the identity of a suspected murder based on fingerprint analysis, shoe size/shape analysis, fiber analysis, and blood analysis. The students also determined the method of the murder which was poisoning.

In the AP chemistry class, students have been studying bonding. In their first few forensic labs, they have analyzed how dyes stick to different fabrics at different levels of color intensity based on bonding properties and have also determined the way in which different fabrics burn. This burn test is useful in identifying fabrics found at crime scenes. The AP class also analyzed red blood cell volume content to determine if blood-doping was involved in a cycling race as alleged by the 4th place winner. The results indicated that the 4th place winner was just a sore loser, the top three contestants were all within normal levels of red blood cells. Many other high school science classes at Woodlands Christian are also involved in forensic lab experiments as it has become a third quarter focus in the high school. Forensic themed projects will be on exhibit at Science Night on Thursday, March 21st. Article and photos submitted by Pam Masau.

Rotary Young Leadership Awards Two members of the junior class were recently honored by the Woodlands Chapter of Rotary International. Katie Van Horn and James Ray received the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) at a recent luncheon. RYLA is Rotary's leadership training program for young people. RYLA emphasizes leadership, citizenship, and personal growth, and aims to • Demonstrate Rotary's respect and concern for youth • Provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders • Encourage leadership of youth by youth • Recognize publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities
