All School News New Faculty & Staff Spotlight Stephen Arnold joins our upper school faculty as technology teacher for middle and high school. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University of Houston. Most recently, he was a user services specialist at the University of Houston. “A way to instill interest in learning is to find ways of building on your learners’ transferable skills. It’s a way of meeting people where they are and working with them to find connections between a new learning challenge and things they already know and skills they already have to help make the new learning challenge easier or stronger or more enjoyable.”
Lorie Chesser will teach first grade in our lower school. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Academic Studies from Sam Houston State University. She comes to Woodlands Christian from Giesinger Elementary School in the Conroe ISD. “In my classroom we use a lot of hands on materials and movement for learning. I strive to develop lessons that are rigorous and engaging for all students. I believe that by touching on all learning styles, all students will be engaged in learning whatever the topic may be.”
Janel Jackson joins our high school faculty teaching United States history and government. She will also coach our varsity cheerleaders. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science from Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, California. Her experience includes teaching social studies at Santiago High School in Garden Grove, California. In addition, she has 25 years of cheer coach experience. “I believe in building life-long learners and providing an environment which promotes success after graduation. Implementing lessons which connect with students is key to keeping them interested and engaged. In addition, using technology to present material allows me to reach various learning styles and instill interest in my students.”
Kori Parker joins the Woodlands Christian athletic department as Assistant Athletic Director-Girls Sports. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Sam Houston State University. Most recently she was athletic director at Trinity School of Texas in Longview, Texas. “As an administrator, I have found that being visible to students and parents is always a positive. My experience in working in Christian schools is that we treat each other as if we are a family, with a mutual love and respect. It has always been a desire of mine to work with like-minded and like-hearted people, growing the Kingdom!”

All School News New Faculty & Staff Spotlight -- continued Heidi Saenz will teach English and creative writing in our high school. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Communications and a Master of Arts in English Literature from La Sierra University in Riverside, California. She most recently was a member of the faculty at Woodlands Preparatory Academy. “My subject, English, lends itself particularly to critically thinking about how our faith and values influence our readings and analysis of particular texts. While most of the material in my subject area has remained constant over time, the ways in which students learn today are dynamic and require constant reinvention. I have found that combining technology, mock social media, presentations and group work generate interest in my classroom.”
Moree Simon will teach music theory and piano lab during the specials period in our lower school. She holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Elementary Education and Teaching from Sam Houston State University. She most recently was a member of the faculty at Austin Elementary in the Conroe ISD. “Fostering an environment for the critical thinking individual and guiding students to be responsible citizens is the core of teaching. The next generation of leaders and influential people who love the Lord and who can think through the problems they face is a must!” Jenny Winkelman joins our lower school faculty as a pre-kindergarten teacher. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Advertising from the University of Texas at Austin and received her certification in Early Childhood Education from Sam Houston State University. She taught most recently at The Woodlands Preparatory Academy. “At the pre-school level, there are several key approaches to instill interest in the classroom. First, I believe there has to be a strong personal bond between student and teacher. The nurturing atmosphere allows children to feel relaxed and secure in trying something new. Secondly, I create interest by being fun, active and providing hands-on learning experiences for students. During these early years, learning through play and discovery ignites students’ natural curiosity and interest in the world around them.” Cassandra Yearwood will join our middle school faculty as a math and Bible teacher. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning and Development with a Mathematics Specialization from the University of Texas at Austin. In addition, she holds a Masters degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Houston. Her previous experience includes teaching 7th and 8th grade math at Aldine Middle School in the Aldine ISD. “I believe students should be actively engaged while learning. A very effective tool for engaging students is the SmartBoard. I have been trained by the Smart company and am proficient in the use of this resource. I also believe that I should show students that I am interested in what they are learning and take advantage of teachable moments.” Editor’s note - In the June 24th edition it was reported that Ashley Barrett would teach 2nd grade. All School News New Faculty & Staff Spotlight -- continued Tifany Allen joins the Woodlands Christian business office as accounts payable assistant. She and her family have recently returned to Texas after residing in the Washington, D.C. area. “Being part of an institution that is integrating the concepts of loving the Lord with all of their heart is especially dear to me. I look forward to working with others who share similar Christian values.”
Mandy Rabon joins the Woodlands Christian development department as an administrative assistant. She and her family have recently returned to Texas after spending 14 years in Winter Haven, Florida. “I am excited to watch God’s plan unfold here at The Woodlands Christian Academy and look forward to being a part of the continued growth of this outstanding school.”
Familiar Faces - New Places!
Heather Henley, formerly one of our 2nd grade teachers, will now oversee our lower school physical education program and lower school cheer program.
Nicole Leppert, formerly Assistant Director of Development, will now be the manager of our campus store, The Armory.
Audra Lewis, formerly the manager of The Armory, will now join the lower school staff as an administrative assistant. She will office in the Joshua Building at the front desk and joins Susan McMillin in assisting our lower school students and parents.
