Woodlands Christian - An Apple Distinguished School

The Woodlands Christian Academy has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2014-2016. Our official certificate was presented on January 20, 2015. To view the interactive iBook that was submitted to Apple as part of the designation process, please click here. The Apple Distinguished School designation is reserved for programs that meet criteria for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence, and demonstrate Apple’s vision of exemplary learning environments. The selection of Woodlands Christian as an Apple Distinguished School highlights our success as an innovative and compelling learning environment that engages students and provides tangible evidence of academic accomplishment. Students use iPads, MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs in combination with interactive white boards and Apple TVs in the classrooms to research, collaborate and create original works that are shared around the world. Learning is inquiry based and student work is project oriented. This approach to using technology in the classroom is preparing our students to be leaders in an increasingly global marketplace. Lower School News Science In Action! Science is coming alive for lower school students as evidenced by their recent participation in two interesting labs. In kindergarten, students made snowflake crystals from a solution of borax and water. The crystals grew on pipe cleaner snowflakes created by each student. (See photos at right.) Fourth grade students learned about the the food chain of the barn owl by dissecting owl pellets and extracting the bones of small animals that the owls had consumed. Using bone charts, the students classified the bones to determine the species of the animal. (See photos below.) Woodlands Christian students are actively engaged in learning every day!

Warrior Track At Pine Cove

Thirteen members of the varsity track team recently took time away from their schedules to serve others at the Pine Cove Christian Camp in Tyler, Texas. The team served a group of 350 eleventh graders from a large church in Houston. A lot of food was served and a TON of dishes were washed! Our group was thrilled to serve others which made the retreat a great experience. Said one adult leader of the church group, ”I can't believe you got teenagers to come clean and wash dishes!” Information and photos submitted by Coach Tom Earle.

Here And Now…There and Then is an 11-session series by Beth Moore on the book of Revelation. She teaches that God is as specific about what He does reveal as He is about what He doesn’t. To register please contact Shawn Lusk at luskfamily@mac.com.
