Governance Board Honors Head Of School For 10 Years Of Service
On Tuesday, January 12, the Governance Board honored Julie Ambler for her 10 years of service as the Woodlands Christian Head of School. Julie began her service to Woodlands Christian as a volunteer when her children, Julia and JP, were in lower school. She served in many diverse capacities, including Governance Board Chair. In January 2006, the Board named Julie the Interim Head of School. Julie’s strong leadership and administrative gifts, her extensive financial background in investment banking with both for-profits and non-profits, her strong passion for excellence in Christian education, and her love for Jesus Christ were evident immediately. Within months, God called Julie to a full-time position as the Head of School at The Woodlands Christian Academy. During Julie’s tenure as Head of School, the enrollment at Woodlands Christian has grown steadily and is nearly double what it was in 2006. Julie has strategically guided the construction of buildings and facilities to accomplish much of the campus master plan, all while reducing overall debt. Financially, the school is robustly healthy and positioned for continued growth. Julie has worked tirelessly to represent Woodlands Christian well in the local community as well as among many Christian and private school associations
around the country, including ACSI, AdvancEd, Paideia, and CESA. Perhaps Julie’s biggest strength is her unwavering commitment to the mission and chief end of The Woodlands Christian Academy which is to graduate Christcentered students inspired to fulfill God’s purpose for their lives as leaders- spiritually, intellectually, physically, and socially. The many graduates of Woodlands Christian are a lasting legacy of Julie’s dedication. Knowing that Julie enjoys Western art, the board recently presented her with a print by the renowned artist, Charles M. Russell titled The Wagon Boss. (See photo center.) The painting depicts the familiar Old West theme of the wagon train making its way across rugged and dangerous terrain under the watchful eye and leadership of the Wagon Boss. Similarly, Julie leads and cares for all the Woodlands Christian families as we journey together, educating and training the next generation of Christian leaders. We are grateful for Julie’s example of servant leadership; she serves Christ wholeheartedly, and leads others to serve Him, too. Math Department News  
Students In 3rd-8th Grades Qualify For Math Olympics Woodlands Christian students recently competed in the district level of the ACSI Math Olympics. The competition included students in third through eighth grade from 17 local private schools. Based on scores from three qualifying mini-tests covering both computation and reasoning skills, students were entered into the district competition. We are pleased to announce that Woodlands Christian had more students earning a Superior rating than any other school competing in our district! Of the 35 students who qualified for the district portion of the Math Olympics, 30 scored well enough to advance to the area round of the competition which will be held on February 20, 2016 at Christ Community School here in The Woodlands. High School Students Learn Nuts & Bolts Of Architecture
Students in Ms. Melinda Cohea’s high school art classes recently took on a big project. They each built an architectural model based on their own concept, floor plans and elevation drawings. The students were instructed to consider what they wanted to build; where they wanted to build it; and create designs that overcame any environmental challenges that arose. The architectural models will be on display in our library until the end of January. Information submitted by Melinda Cohea.
Distinguished Honors Program Now Accepting Applications As a Christ-centered, college preparatory school, we remain committed to a process of continuous improvement, always seeking to ensure that we challenge every one of our students to reach their Godgiven potential, spiritually, academically, physically, and socially. We recently announced the development of a Distinguished Honors Program that would allow qualified students to engage in a broad, intensive program built around the four pillars of our school’s mission. The Distinguished Honors Program is selective and designed to provide an opportunity for our most highly competent students to demonstrate their excellence. The program gives concrete expression to the conviction that excellence spiritually, academically, physically, and socially is the hallmark of The Woodlands Christian Academy’s educational experience. ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT NEWS Warrior Basketball Begins District Play The Warrior boys’ varsity basketball team has begun the district portion of their season with back to back wins over St. Joseph, 77-17 and Lutheran North 56-25. The team will be on the road for two district match-ups beginning Friday, January 15 against Logos Prep and Tuesday, January 19 against St. Thomas Episcopal. The Warriors return home for a contest with Faith West on Friday, January 22. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The girls’ varsity team has not fared as well in their opening district games posting two losses against St. Joseph and Lutheran North. The team looks to turn things around when they take to the road for games against Logos Prep on Friday, January 15 and St. Thomas Episcopal on Tuesday, January 19. The Lady Warriors return to their home court against Faith West on Friday, January 22. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Come out and support your Warrior basketball teams!
Warrior Track Hosts Alumni Meet
The Warrior track program christened its new facility in style with a special alumni event on Saturday, January 9. Representatives from the past five graduating classes were on hand to dedicate the track and participate in a few races and relay events. They also reminisced about the training they did without the benefit of the amazing facilities with which we are now blessed. ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT NEWS Warrior Swimmers Have Strong Showing In Pre-Season Meet Warrior swimmers worked on fine tuning their strategies this weekend at the Tomball New Year's Invitational in preparation for regionals in two weeks. Hannah Bub (200 IM and 100 breaststroke) and Colin Murphy both brought home individual first place finishes. Colin wiped out the previous school records in the 50 freestyle (3rd) and 100 butterfly (1st). Also scoring points for the Warriors by finishing in the top 16 places were Mason Swanner (14th 100 freestyle,11th-200 IM, new school record) and Hailey Hanigan (14th-backstroke). Jake Copeland, Danyon Decker, Colin Murphy and Mason Swanner swam school record breaking races in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays with 8th and 11th place finishes. Katie Albertson, Hannah Bub, Meredith Frey and Hailey Hanigan took 9th and 13th in the girls' relays.
