Head Of School Notes -- by Julie Ambler Happy New Year and welcome back to Woodlands Christian! I hope everyone enjoyed a blessed and restful Christmas holiday. On behalf of our faculty and staff, thank you for your generous donations to Worthy Servants. At our annual Christmas luncheon, held this year at the Dosey Doe Music Cafe, I was able to present our full-time employees with a check for $576.83! Part-time employees received $288.42. I deeply appreciate your gracious gifts to these faithful and devoted individuals. Last fall, nearly 40% of our Woodlands Christian families responded to our annual parent survey, and I am truly grateful for your feedback. As we continually strive to improve our school, your input as parents is invaluable. Overall, survey respondents were especially pleased with the quality and compassion of our faculty. You reported that your students are growing spiritually, challenged academically and developing close, healthy relationships with peers and faculty. You value the frequent communication from the school and feel a strong sense of Christian community on campus. A few of you had specific concerns and suggestions which we will consider as we begin planning for next year. We are undoubtedly going in the right direction, and I am confident that we will continue to do so with the partnership and the wisdom of our board, our administrators, our faculty and you, our parents. Enrollment contracts for the 2015-2016 school year are now in the mail, and we sincerely desire to serve your family again next year. In order to reserve a spot and take
advantage of lower tuition rates, please return your contracts by 4:00 pm on Thursday, February 5. On Friday, February 6, we will begin looking at open spots for right-fit candidates to join us, offering contracts to some of them, and establishing wait pools for grades that reach capacity. (We have 113 applications from potential new students in the Admissions Office at this time.) Any current student contracts that have not been returned by our deadline will be added to the wait pool and re-considered as space permits. Lower School News Isaiah Jones & The Seekers Of The Lost Christmas Treasure Lower school students entertained family and friends with the musical production, Isaiah Jones & The Seekers Of The Lost Christmas Treasure at StoneBridge Church on Thursday, December 18. Under the direction of Mrs. Nancy Casey, students in PreK-4 through 5th grade turned in a spirited performance. Isaiah Jones and his friends search for the lost Christmas treasure while navigating levels of a video game. They go through challenge after challenge as they follow the shooting star that guides them through their journey and leads them to their greatest discovery - the real treasure of Christmas which is Jesus. Christy Semsen, the author of this musical and three time Dove Award nominee was our honored guest at the performance. The past four lower school musical presentations were written by Mrs. Semsen and her husband, Daniel. (See photo top right.) Congratulations to the Lower School Music Department for an outstanding production, and many thanks to all those who put in so many hours to make Isaiah Jones & The Seekers Of The Lost Christmas Treasure a tremendous success!

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT NEWS Warrior Basketball The boys’ varsity basketball program hosted its second annual Woodlands Christian Basketball Tournament on January 2-3, 2015. Sixteen teams participated in the tournament. The tournament championship game featured a match up between Woodlands Christian and The John Cooper School. The game ended in a 50-50 tie resulting in overtime with Cooper coming out on top 64-53.
Both the boys’ and girls’ varsity teams began district play on Tuesday, January 6 with road games against Lutheran North. The boys posted a 85-17 victory and girls came away with a 24-80 loss. District opponent Katy Faith West pays a visit to Woodlands Christian on Thursday, January 8. Tip-off for the girls’ varsity game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. followed by the boys’ varsity game at 7:30 p.m.
