Head Of School Notes - by Julie Ambler Welcome back and happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful Christmas holiday. We are delighted to have our students back on campus and look forward to a sensational second-half of the school year. On behalf of our faculty and staff, thank you for your generous donations to Worthy Servants. At our annual Christmas luncheon, held this year at Landry’s, I was able to present our fulltime employees with a check for $561.48. Parttime employees received $280.74. I deeply appreciate your gracious gifts to these faithful and devoted individuals. I am so proud of our seniors who have begun receiving college acceptances to a wide variety of fine colleges and universities including Auburn, Baylor, Belmont, Colorado College, Colorado School of Mines, Elon, Liberty, NYU, Purdue, Savannah College of Art and Design, Southwestern, Texas A & M, TCU, Trinity, Virginia Tech, and the universities of Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Indiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. The merit-based college scholarship offers are also climbing rapidly. I am grateful for your participation in last fall’s annual parent survey. Your feedback is vital as we continually assess our programs and strive to improve our school. Each member of the Senior Leadership Team (all of whom are returning next year) has studied the survey results and comments. This year, you expressed overwhelming satisfaction with the quality and compassion of our faculty. You reported that your children find the academic curriculum both challenging and engaging and they are developing close, healthy relationships with peers and faculty. You were also pleased with the school’s communication tools and value the strong sense of Christian community on campus. Some of you asked excellent questions and raised specific concerns, which we will address as appropriate. Based on the survey, we are moving in the right direction, and I am confident that we
will continue to do so with teamwork and the wisdom of our board, our administrators, our faculty and you, our parents. Thank you for your input and your partnership. Enrollment contracts for the 2016-2017 school year are now in the mail, and we sincerely desire to serve your family again next year. In order to reserve your spot and take advantage of lower tuition rates, please return your contracts by 4:00 pm on Thursday, February 11. On Friday, February 12, we will begin looking at open spots for right-fit candidates to join us, offering contracts to some of them, and establishing wait pools for grades that reach capacity. (The Enrollment Office is already swamped with applications and inquiries for next year.) Any current student contracts that have not been returned by our deadline will be added to the wait pool and re-considered as space permits. Lower School News
Wrapping All The Way Family and friends of lower school students were treated to the entertaining musical production, Wrapping All The Way at StoneBridge Church on Thursday, December 17. Under the direction of Mrs. Nancy Casey, students in PreK-4 through 4th grade turned in a spirited performance. Congratulations to the Lower School Music Department for another outstanding production, and many thanks to those who put in so many hours to make Wrapping All The Way a tremendous success!
Sharing God’s Love With Others Lower school students shared the love of Jesus during the Christmas season by collecting books and making cards for the children receiving treatment at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. The tradition began four years ago when now second grade student Christian Yearwood’s younger sister Kayla (now in kindergarten) was receiving treatment for leukemia. The Yearwoods came up with the idea of providing books to the children at the hospital and the tradition has grown to include not only books, but also handmade cards as well. Students in pre-kindergarten through first grade collected books while students in fourth and fifth grades created pop-up cards to go with them. (See photo bottom right.) Christian, Kayla and their mom, sixth grade teacher Cassandra Williams, then delivered 100 books and cards to M.D.Anderson. (See photo top right.) What a fitting way to celebrate the Christmas season!

Upper School News  
Student Tech Support Team While most students were wrapping up their Christmas vacations and preparing to head back to class, members of the high school tech support team were on campus Tuesday, January 5 to participate in training sessions with our technology department staff. Each semester an average of 16 students are selected to become members of the tech support team. Students are selected for this elective class by applying for admission with Cyndee Farra, Director of Technology. Once selected, students are trained to assist teachers and students with tier 1 level support issues such as basic operating system repairs, installing software updates, setting up Apple TVs, and overseeing student requests for printing. Students also learn basic customer service by answering telephones, relaying messages and greeting visitors to the technology help desk. Additionally, these students receive Apple technical certification through online training provided by the Apple corporation. The student tech support team is yet another distinctive of a Woodlands Christian education which provides students with real world learning opportunities.
High School Musician To Perform At Carnegie Hall Sophomore student Meagan Allen, a member of the high school band, has been selected to perform with the Honors String Orchestra at the 2016 High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall this February. Allen will be a member of the Honors String Orchestra and will play the viola. She will join other performers from across the United States as well as Guam, Canada and a number of foreign countries. This year more than 18,000 nominations were processed with approximately 750 student performers being invited to participate in this prestigious program. While in New York, Allen will have the opportunity to learn from world-renowned conductors and work with the other members of the Honors Performance Series. Congratulations, Meagan! ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT NEWS Warrior Basketball Rings In The New Year The varsity boys basketball team closed out 2015 with a 47-68 loss against Baytown Christian on December 18 but bounced back in style in 2016 hosting their very own tournament here at Woodlands Christian January 1-2. The team had a strong showing posting three wins and earning second place in the tournament. The all important district portion of the season begins this Friday, January 8 when the Warriors host the Eagles of St. Joseph High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The girls’ varsity team chalked up a 43-28 victory over Baytown Christian on December 18 but came up short in their January 5th game with John Cooper resulting in a 27-36 loss. The Lady Warriors look to get back on track when they begin district play at home this Friday, January 8 against St. Joseph High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. The district race is on! Come out and support your Warrior basketball teams!
Warrior Football Earns End Of Season Recognition
Warrior football team members received end of season recognition at the recent Private School Awards Dinner sponsored by the Touchdown Club of Houston on December 16, 2015. Congratulations to Luke Hudson on being named a finalist for the Ironman of the Year award and to Coach Mike Crocker on being named a finalist for Coach of the Year. Hudson also received honors by being named 1st team offense for the Courier newspaper’s All County Team.
