Donuts With Dad Lower school students welcomed their dads (and a few moms!) to Donuts With Dad on Wednesday, February 4. Fathers had an opportunity to spend time in their students’ classrooms and got a flavor of campus life at Woodlands Christian. One dad even paid a visit via FaceTime! (See photo bottom center.)

And of course, everybody enjoyed lots of donuts!

Lower School News Third Grade Students Help Others Third grade students recently enjoyed a unique field trip! They traveled to the Montgomery County Food Bank, where they served as a part of the Buddy Backpack Program.

Students rotated through stations, filling bags with specific canned and boxed foods. These bags were later taken to Montgomery County schools and distributed to students who would otherwise not have food to eat over the weekend, since their main food source comes from their school lunches. Our third grade students served with joyful hearts as they worked to help those in need. Their positive attitude and eagerness to care for others illuminated the light of Christ to all around them!

After working at the food bank, the third graders toured The Compassion Experience at a local church. Here, they learned what life is like for children who live in poverty all over the world. The stories of impoverished children are brought to life in order to raise awareness and gain

help for those in need. Our students heard about the experiences of Jey and Kiwi, two children who are now successful adults because of the Compassion program. Our Warriors walked away from the tours with more of a realization of how their lives are dramatically different from those of many children around the globe. They were amazed at the strength, bravery, and faith of these children and were astounded by their ability to overcome such huge obstacles in their lives‌all while relying on God. Our students noted that they are now more eager to look to the interests of others- whether it be for kids in Montgomery County, kids around the world, or in just sharing joy with their classmates everyday.

Students Entertain At Church Event Ten students from Mrs. Nancy Casey’s music classes recently performed at the Faith Bible Church ladies luncheon held at the Palmer Woods Country Club. The students entertained the group in song selections as follows: Children of the World Let Us Sing, Music Rocks and, Lift Every Voice And Sing.

Upper School News Students Participate In Quiz Bowl Our first ever high school science quiz bowl team recently competed in the Education for Tomorrow Alliance’s (EfTA) Sci://Tech Science Quiz Bowl Competition held at Lonestar College. Our team consisted of five seniors: Blair Duroy, Mary Catherine Fletcher, Raul Giorgi, Stephen Milian and Andrew Van Horn (see photos at right).

In preparation for the event, we competed against a neighboring school for practice and won three out of three games. At the quiz bowl event, we competed against several Woodlands and Conroe area public and private schools. We played two games over the course of an hour and a half and answered questions in the categories of Biology, Astronomy, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science and Math. After a close second match, we conceded defeat to our opponents. The students enjoyed the experience and look forward to building a new team next year consisting of both underclassmen and seniors. Faculty advisors were: Dr. Charles Mooney, Mrs. Shonda Majors and Mrs. Pam Masau.

Geology Students Rock On During the recent President’s Day weekend, the geology classes took advantage of their time away from classes and toured areas of the Texas Hill Country. The geology classes along with their chaperones, Mr. Troy Holiman, Mrs. Amy Rowe, Mrs. Chris Parker and Mrs. Pam Masau drove to their first destination: a chilly Blanco State Park where they stayed overnight in screened shelters. The next morning after breakfast at the campsite, the group set out for a tour of Natural Bridge Caverns.

After the tour, it was on to Mountain Home where the Newcomb family (Shelby, 11th grade) had dinner and lodging for us along with a great bonfire, some spotlighting, a local cave tour and ATVs which were used to explore their property.

The next morning the family generously provided breakfast and the group went on to scale the 1825 ft summit of Enchanted Rock near Fredericksburg. Mr. Holiman

lead a devotion for the group and then Mrs. Masau gave instructions for their hike.

While there, the students were to map their location along the trail using a topographic map, the topography around them, and latitude and longitude measurements from a handheld Garmin GPS. The students were also tasked with finding and identifying rocks and minerals in the area and answering several questions about the geologic features they encountered along their hike. After taking a summit selfie, the students descended ERock and began their journey back to Woodlands Christian.

Upper School News A Dress For Barbara - Donation Deadline Extended Donations will be accepted until Friday, February 13!

A Dress For Barbara is a local organization which provides gently used prom and/or homecoming dresses to deserving high school girls who would not otherwise be able to afford a dress for these occasions. The Interact Club is collecting dresses to donate to this very worthy organization.

Please bring your dresses to Mrs. Rowe’s classroom (NAC 513).

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT NEWS Regular Season Winds Down For Warrior Basketball The boys’ varsity basketball teams hosted district opponent St. Thomas Episcopal on Tuesday, February 3.

In a spirited contest, the Warriors fell to the Saints 36-59.

The district playoff picture will come into sharper focus for both the boys’ and girls’ teams as they close out the regular season with games on the road. The first is against St. Joseph on February 6 followed by a game on February 13 with Katy Faith West.

Warrior Swim Team Excels At Regional Meet The Warrior Swim team excelled at the TAPPS region meet on January 29, and six swimmers will now move on to the state meet. The girls' relay team of Katie Albertson, Sara Beth Bryant, Hannah Bub and Hailey Hanigan were region champs in both the 200 yard freestyle and 200 yard medley relays. The medley relay time of 1:58.67 and the free relay time of 1:46.95 not only are new school records but represent the fastest TAPPS Division 3 times on record. Katie Albertson received bronze medals in both the 50 and 100 yard freestyles. Sara Beth Bryant won the gold in the 500 yard freestyle and the silver in the 200 yard individual medley. Hannah Bub was the region champ and gold medalist in both the 200 yard freestyle and the 100 yard breaststroke. Hailey Hanigan brought home the silver in the 100 yard backstroke and swam to a fourth place finish in the 100 yard butterfly. All four of these girls will represent Woodlands Christian at the TAPPS State Championship Meet. Kennedy Kesterson completed her season by swimming personal best times on the 50 and 100 !

On the boys' side, Jake Copeland and Jake Pollitt also qualified for State! Jake Pollitt was the region champ in both the 50 and 100 yard freestyles, winning gold in both. Jake Copeland swam personal best times in the 100 yard freestyle and the 100 yard breaststroke, earning points for the team and finishing fourth and fifth in those events. Oscar Pollitt ended his swim season also with personal best times in the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard breaststroke, earning points in both with ninth and tenth place finishes.

The state championship meet will be held in San Antonio on February 13th.

The team looks forward to excellent competition and a strong finish to the season!
