THE WOODLANDS THE WOODLANDS
CHRISTIAN CHRISTIAN ACADEMY A C A D E M Y AUGUST 21, 2015
Head Of School Notes - by Julie Ambler Each year, the Head of School prayerfully selects a spiritual theme for The Woodlands Christian Academy, which we then emphasize at chapel, in the classrooms and on the playing fields. This year’s theme is thrive, and it was inspired by the song of the same name recorded by the group Casting Crowns. The lyrics include – I know we were made for so much more than ordinary life … it’s time for us to more than just survive … we were made to thrive … joy unspeakable, faith unsinkable, love unstoppable, anything is possible. Life should be more than following a routine checklist of obligations and duties. Life should be a rich adventure in which we learn to flourish and prosper while serving Jesus Christ. To help our students to thrive, we want to ground them in the Word of God; He is their sure foundation, and they can safely build their lives upon His truths. We want them to be a part of a school community where they are known and can make valuable contributions. We want to celebrate the varied personalities represented by each one of our students. We want each student to develop a wide range of skills, and we want to inspire them in the areas where they have a natural bent. We want them to recognize damaging influences so they can make good choices. We want them to risk trying new things, so they will discover new talents and build confidence. The habit of trying builds grit and tenacity, even when the results are not as anticipated.
A few weeks ago, I was kayaking down the Guadalupe River in Hunt, Texas. Along this section of the Guadalupe River, there are enormous Cypress trees that have withstood many a drought and many a flood. These trees are hundreds of years old, over 100 feet tall, with diameters in excess of five feet. They line the banks of the river; in some places they are so close together that they create solid walls along the river. Their roots show above the water and extend far into the river. They look like mighty warriors standing guard over the river with their enormous branches and abundant green foliage. What a picture of thriving and how well their appearance reminded me of this year’s Scripture verse, Jeremiah 17:7-8 “But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Oh that the students of The Woodlands Christian Academy would grow to become such mighty trees, planted firmly in Jesus Christ, thriving in spite of the culture around them!
