Annual report 2012-2013
Letter from the governance board Dear Woodlands Christian Community: Simply stated, the Governance Board for The Woodlands Christian Academy has one responsibility: to assure that Woodlands Christian strives to achieve the results stated in its Ends policies. (Please see the school’s website for the complete policies.) The primary goal of these Ends policies is for students to mature in their faith and development and, by graduation, have received Jesus Christ as Savior and be equipped to fulfill God’s purpose for their lives as leaders – spiritually, academically, physically and socially. Having established this as the very foundation and sole justification for the existence of Woodlands Christian, the Board rigorously monitors the school’s performance by establishing written policies to achieve these Ends, direct the Head of School, and maintain sound financial stewardship. Additionally, the board met last year with both internal (founding and past board members, key administrators, parents and grandparents) and external (local church pastors, educators, Dr. Robert Sloan - President of Houston Baptist University, and Congressman Kevin Brady) members of the community to spot and evaluate trends in Christian education in order to further define the school’s direction in response to these emerging needs while remaining true to the school’s founding mission. The 2012-2013 school year was a remarkable one in many respects. The school experienced strong retention and enrollment, record-breaking fundraising results, and positive survey feedback from families and faculty, all direct signs of satisfaction with the direction of the school. The purpose of this report is to highlight many of these achievements. The 2013-2014 school year promises to be an even better year with consistent leadership, rising enrollment, new construction and a strong faculty. We thank you for the privilege of serving God and your family at The Woodlands Christian Academy. In Him,
Woodlands Christian governance board

Dear Families and Friends of The Woodlands Christian Academy: On behalf of the board, administration and faculty, we are delighted to present our first annual report, summarizing highlights from the 2012-2013 school year. In the future, you may expect to receive this publication every year as we share our growth and success stories with our families and friends. At Woodlands Christian, we strive to equip students – spiritually, academically, physically and socially – to fulfill God’s purpose for each of their lives. Through His transforming power, we believe that students can find their unique gifts and talents and reach their highest potential. Thus, we offer a rigorous Christ-centered, college-preparatory curriculum taught by an engaging faculty that delivers the personal mentoring and encouragement necessary to help our students succeed and develop a love of learning. Whether in the classroom, at an athletic competition or on the mission field, we challenge our students to become servant-leaders for Christ, capable of making an eternal impact for His kingdom. We hope you enjoy the annual report, in which we focus on our previous year’s achievements and on the annual report of gifts. We are, as always, grateful for the contributions of time, talent and treasure that we receive from the families and friends of Woodlands Christian. Serving Him, Julie H. Ambler Head of School
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. Psalm 100:4-5 (NIV)
Our Mission The Woodlands Christian Academy is an independent, Christ-centered college preparatory school that integrates learning with biblical faith and challenges our students to reach their highest potential - spiritually, academically, physically, and socially - for the Glory of Jesus Christ.

SPIRITUALly Students and faculty on mission to aid street kids in Quito, Ecuador
The Woodlands Christian Academy challenges students spiritually by: Giving them opportunities to receive Christ; Infusing all classes and programs with Christian values and activities; Educating students about the Bible, its accounts and themes; Helping them to identify and develop their unique God-given talents; Integrating a Christian worldview into all classes and exposing older students to other worldviews and religions.
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. Colossians 2:6-8 (NIV)

Passing of the torch from the senior class to the junior class
Lower School Chapel
Spiritual growth at Woodlands Christian The senior class spent a week in Galveston rebuilding a youth center for Galveston Urban Ministries and donated $1,410 to them at our baccalaureate service.
The faculty traveled to Galveston for two days of professional development and inspiriation at a conference sponsored by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
Students and visitors to campus enjoyed Christian music broadcast through speakers located outside the Student Life Center (SLC).
Bible was taught as an academic subject at every grade, beginning with memorization, learning the accounts of the Bible and applications to daily living, culminating in advanced high school classes of church history, theology, ethics, and apologetics.
Students collected 480 shoe boxes filled with gifts in support of Operation Christmas Child.
Based on the Terra Nova scores, which compare the Bible knowledge of our students to those at other Christian schools nationwide, 95% of our students scored basic or above.
Rather than paying for elaborate homecoming mums, students created an alternative button, My Mum is on a Mission to raise funds for ministries in Ecuador, the Dominican Republic and Texas.

“Our summer mission trip to Quito, Ecuador was life changing. Spending time with children in the jungle, without air conditioning, luxury, toys or clean clothes, was an awesome reminder to be grateful for the many things God has given me. I know that I am called to return to Quito someday after college. I heard the voice of the Lord, I saw His presence and I am forever changed. -Lauren, Class of 2015
