InMay we had the pleasure of having two Spotlight Sponsors: Claudia VanHarn, The Kink Team – Keller Williams Realty and Stacy Harris with Network In Action. The theme coincided with Memorial Day and attendees shared who they honor and why. Representing The Woodlands homeowners and future homeowners, Claudia is committed to listening to her clients’ needs to navigate the selling and buying process by utilizing her keen negotiation skills to advocate on behalf of her clients to ensure a successful transaction.

Meet the New Members Hosted by New Danville at the Black Walnut Café

In May, we had the pleasure of having New Danville host us at the Black Walnut Café where members had the opportunity to build relationships with other members while learning more about the newest members that joined The Chamber.

Founded in 2005, New Danville is a rural nonprofit for special needs adults and those who need similar services. Located on 42 acres in Willis, they have day programs (Individualized Skills and Socialization) and an independent living community that is home to 34 clients with a waiting list of 37; they have about 115 in the day program. New Danville has come a long way since opening in October 2007 when they started with a handful of clients and no completed structures. Their 20th anniversary is on the horizon; they call it Vision 2025 (NewDanville. org/Vision2025).

Their focus is to support their clients as they live, learn, work and grow on the path to fulfilling their potential, strengthening independence, enjoying socialization, and gaining self-confidence. Clients, known as Wranglers, participate in a variety of classes—from art to animal therapy, baking to fishing, computer skills to woodshop, and much more—as well as enjoy field trips into the community. Individual volunteers and teams from area companies provide much-appreciated support.

Many clients work in the community or on-site in a variety of roles, including production of bath and beauty products, available on our online store. You can support New Danville by participating in our special events—Spring Thing and Play a Round for the Wranglers, coming in November—or shopping at Jazzy Junque, our upscale, home décor resale store in Conroe.

To learn more and follow the great stories coming out of New Danville, check our award-winning newsletter, The Wrangler Gazette at NewDanville.org/newsletter. For more information on ways to support New Danville or learn about Vision 2025, contact Dion McInnis at 936-253-5757 or Dion.McInnis@NewDanville.org.

THE POWER OF WORK-LIFE BALANCE

And Why Businesses Should Embrace it for Employees

In today’s fast-paced and demanding work environment, achieving a healthy work-life balance has become increasingly important for individuals to thrive both personally and professionally. Recognizing the significance of work-life balance, forward-thinking businesses are now embracing policies and practices that support their employees in finding equilibrium between work responsibilities and personal lives. By prioritizing work-life balance, companies not only foster a happier and more satisfied workforce but also reap numerous benefits themselves.

ENHANCED EMPLOYEE WELL-BEING

A healthy work-life balance contributes significantly to employee well-being. When employees have the freedom to manage their personal obligations alongside their work commitments, they experience reduced stress levels and improved mental health. This leads to higher job satisfaction, stronger connections within the workplace, and increased productivity. Employees who feel supported in achieving work-life balance are more likely to bring their best selves to work and contribute to the company’s success.

INCREASED RETENTION AND ATTRACTION OF TOP TALENT

In today’s competitive job market, organizations that prioritize work-life balance have a competitive edge in attracting and retaining talented professionals. Job seekers often prioritize companies that offer flexible working arrangements, such as remote work options or flexible hours. By embracing these practices, businesses can position themselves as desirable employers, attracting top talent and reducing the costs associated with high employee turnover.

IMPROVED EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT AND MOTIVATION

When employees feel that their work and personal lives are in balance, they are more likely to be engaged and motivated. By accommodating their personal needs, businesses show that they value their employees as individuals and respect their lives outside of work. This fosters a positive work culture, leading to creativity and innovation.

Embracing work-life balance is not only an investment in employees’ well-being but also a strategic decision for businesses to thrive in the long run. By implementing policies and practices that support work-life balance, companies can create a positive work culture, attract top talent, enhance productivity, and ultimately achieve higher levels of success.

NAVIGATING SUMMER

Achieving work-life balance requires flexibility as employee needs vary with different seasons and situations. The summer months when schools are out is a prime example. Parents face the challenge of balancing work responsibilities with their children’s care and wanting to spend more time with their family. Finding balance requires flexibility and empathy from employee and employer.

Employers can demonstrate understanding and support for parents by offering flexible working arrangements or paid time off options. Employees taking advantage of those offerings can plan ahead and work with colleagues to ensure their job responsibilities are fulfilled. This allows parents to spend quality time with their children while meeting their professional commitments.
