A Message from J.J. Hollie A Legacy of Leadership

The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1978 as a membership organization to drive business growth. Since that time, the Chamber has focused on delivering value for our members and making The Woodlands area a world-class place to live and work.

From launching successful programs like Education for Tomorrow Alliance and The Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership to representing thousands of companies from all major industries, the Chamber has been an integral part of The Woodlands area community since its inception. Through various programs and teams of devoted volunteers, the Chamber continues to move our region forward in every facet of the community: workforce, growth and business advocacy. And every new year brings a fresh dynamic to the Chamber with the appointment of some new board members, while saying goodbye to a few who have given their time and leadership for a number of years. We are pleased to announce Jeff Garrett (Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP) as the chair of the 2019-2020 board of directors and Linda Nelson (Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center) as the vice chair. Jeff and Linda will begin their new roles Sept. 1, 2019. 2 woodlandschamber.org JULY 2019

Leadership Montgomery County’s

Class of 2019 Graduates Leadership Montgomery County (LMC) recently celebrated the graduation of the LMC Class of 2019 at their Graduation Celebration Luncheon presented by Consolidated Communications. With more than 400 people in attendance, the luncheon highlighted the accomplishments of the current LMC Class over the past year and also celebrated the 2019 LMC Distinguished Alumnus and 2019 LMC Honorary Alumnus. The 44-member class of business and community leaders spent the past nine months learning about the inner workings of the county through monthly education sessions, completed a leadership development series, and worked together to give back through their class project. Topics for the monthly education sessions included Economic Development, Education, Government, Infrastructure, Public Safety, Healthcare, Serving Our Community, and Leadership Development. The luncheon also highlighted and honored the session directors who planned each of these sessions. The Leadership Series, sponsored by Repsol and presented by Chad Patterson & Associates, covered the 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John Maxwell. LMC alumni led the class in small groups to discuss the book and allow class members to learn from each other’s experiences and grow in their leadership development. The class left their mark on Montgomery County through their Class Project benefiting Angel Reach. The class worked together to help rebuild a resale furniture store for Angel Reach, called Angels Loft. The class raised more than $14,000 in cash donations and even more in in-kind donations for the project. The class renovated the space, created a business plan, created a human resources manual, implemented a store pricing system, and developed marketing and social media campaigns. “This class has certainly left their mark on Montgomery County and will only continue to do so for years to come. They are a wonderful group of leaders who care greatly about this community,” said LMC Executive Director Sarah Rhea. “They have gained a greater understanding our county, grown in their leadership development, and formed lasting relationships with other community leaders. I’m excited to see the difference they will continue to make in the community.” 10 woodlandschamber.org JULY 2019

Your Security First…

SPOTLIGHT

M E M B E R

Your Key to Safe and Locks

Serving The Woodlands and surrounding communities since 1998, Mark and Kathy Dawson founded Dawson Security Group, Inc. on the premise that nothing is more valuable than the safety, security and protection of families and assets. “We have always focused on The Woodlands and surrounding communities,” Dawson said. “Over the years we have gotten to understand that nobody can really offer security solutions better than local individuals who live, work, play and worship in the same community that their customers do.” There are two clear divisions in security; physical and electronic. Both of which provide layers. Dawson Security Group, Inc. is a firm believer that multiple layers of defense are what makes security effective. They have the products needed to circumvent security breaches, from locks, safes and keys to alarms, access control and surveillance. The one thing Dawson knew when opening his company in 1998 was that his Woodlands Area Chamber membership was going to be an invaluable asset to his growing business. “The Chamber itself I owe a debt of gratitude to,” he said. “My Chamber membership put me in front of people immediately, where I could shake hands and network. The relationships that I have built over the past 20 years have been incredible. I have people that I have known that entire time that still work their

businesses in our community and I have never seen a chamber in any compacity that I’ve ever been involved with work better in our community than The Woodlands Area Chamber.” Dawson believes that because the community is full of businesses using neighboring businesses, that everyone should continually strive to work with their neighbors and other chamber members. Another important factor in his business model is that when Dawson Security Group has the opportunity to serve the community, they do so quietly. They also pride themselves in being a generational business, providing decent jobs and career opportunities in the community hose at Dawson Security Group, Inc. take their jobs very seriously. Their team of extensively trained, appropriately licensed bonded, and fully insured locksmiths, security technicians and support staff, are all committed to the same thing: excellence in workmanship and customer service. For more information about Dawson Security Group, Inc., and their services, stop by our showroom on the soutbound feeder at 26309 I-45 North, contact Mark at (281) 364-0500 or visit dawsonsafeandlock.com.
