Creating an emphasis on supporting charitable causes is not traditionally a core function for a chamber of commerce. However, given the generosity of spirit that is woven into our community culture, we believe it to be integral to our success as The Woodlands Area Chamber.

This holiday season and throughout the year, I encourage you to get involved with The Chamber’s Community Relations Team. CRT is open to all members and is tasked with new projects every month that allow businesses, their employees, and individuals to help make a difference in the community. he Business Advocacy Council coordinated “Business Votes Day� on October 25.

The Voting Valet which is a complimentary transportation service to members took more than 50 individuals to cast their vote!

Seminar Team

In 2018, the Seminar Team started a new series of seminars known as Small Business University to provide a fundamental foundation to help small businesses owners be successful. The program brought in just under 100 members and guests for the seven-session series.

Taste of the Town, in its 33rd year, will take place at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott

Sample food and beverages from 30-plus restaurants in one location at the 33rd annual Taste of the Town Presented by Planet Lincoln on Thursday, January 17, 2019, from 4-9 p.m. at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott, located at 1601 Lake Robbins Drive.

The event, hosted by The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce, features restaurants, bakeries, breweries, caterers and more, all offering popular samples from their menu to compete in the 2019 Best of Taste competition.

After making their rounds, guests will have the opportunity to vote for vendors with the best appetizer, entrée, dessert and the coveted Planet Lincoln People’s Choice Award.

The 2018 “Best of Taste” reigning champions are Broken Barrel (best appetizer), Avenida Brazil Churrascaria Steakhouse (best entrée) and KICPOPS for both best dessert and the Planet Lincoln People’s Choice Award.

Tickets to the event can be purchased in advance at TasteOfTheTown.org. Advance tickets are $30 for adults and include two alcoholic drink vouchers and $20 for children, ages 4-10. All tickets include unlimited samples, water and soda. Tickets purchased at the door increase by $5: $35 for adults and $25 for children.

About Leadership Montgomery County:

One component of their organization’s outreach includes the management of a furniture and clothing resale center, currently known as Shared Treasures. Over the next six months, the LMC class will work with Angel Reach to enhance the furniture center by improving many aspects of its operations, including designing a system to handle the influx of furniture and household item donations as well as a program to train and employ the youth they serve. Partnering with Angel Reach, the LMC Class of 2019 project will utilize financial and in-kind donations to provide minor renovations to the facility, to develop a marketing plan to better reach the surrounding community, to procure inventory, sales, and human resources software, and to develop a training program for the youth

Leadership Montgomery County (LMC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, dedicated to cultivating the future leaders of Montgomery County. About Angel Reach: Angel Reach is a faith-based nonprofit organization that works with youth who have aged out of the foster care system, as well as those who are homeless between the ages of 16 and 24. Many of these youth are lost, forced to survive on their own, alone and with no place to live. Angel Reach provides the support they need in finding their way to becoming emotionally stable and financially independent.

Additionally, Angel Reach serves as a ministry that supports families who care for children removed from their homes by Child Protective Services. Their goal is to nurture these youth and equip them for productive and meaningful futures.

Save the Date for SCI://TECH 2019 The 2019 SCI://TECH Exposition is just one month away and we need your help! SCI:// TECH is a partnership between Education for Tomorrow, Conroe Independent School District, and area private schools that offers science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) events for K-12 students SCI://TECH events kick off on Friday, January 25 with the Anadarko Senior High Science Bowl, and run through Saturday, February 16 with the Consolidated Communications Junior High Engineering Design Competition. With 13 STEM events over four weekends and more than 4,000 student participants, there are many ways to engage.

TEAMS IN ACTION community relations team /IN ACTION In October, the Community Relations Team participated in a variety of activities.

The team participated as referees for Cassidy Joined for Hope’s KickFest We closed out the month with collecting donations for the Meal on on October 6. The communitywide kickball tournament benefited teen suicide awareness and prevention.

The team also volunteered at New Danville’s Halloween Fest on October 31. Our volunteers had so much fun overseeing games, face painting, judging the costume contest and serving up hot dogs cooked and donated

by Divine Dogs. It truly was a special occasion with lots of laughs, love and dancing! We thoroughly enjoyed working with the New Danville Wranglers and Mavericks.

October is National Chiropractic Health Month, with this year’s theme of Get Moving, with the goal of educating people on the importance of staying healthy with movement and exercise, as well as assisting with the prevention of back pain.

Spinal Care Chiropractic Center opened its doors in The Woodlands by Drs. Dawn Schwab and Lisa Rister with the goal of providing quality health care to the community, including chiropractic and complementary health services such as acupuncture and massage therapy.

With our relocation to the Pinecroft Medical Center in 2007, the practice expanded to add chiropractors and include a unique Pilates exercise rehab program.

Spinal Care provides complementary medical services by working closely with specialists such as neurosurgeons, neurologists, pain management specialists, rheumatologists and orthopedic surgeons to identify the cause of a patient’s health issues. By co-managing these patients, individualized treatment plans can be developed to care for a variety of conditions including headaches, neck and back pain, fibromyalgia and arthritis, as well as many different types of injuries.

Spinal Care Chiropractic Center joined The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce in December 1999 and will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year.

We feel our membership and participation has greatly contributed to the practice’s growth and success. By consistently volunteering for and sponsoring Chamber events such as the monthly Networking Breakfast, Chairman’s Ball, CrawPHish Festival, and the Volunteer Appreciation luncheon, our doctors and staff continue to develop relationships with other chamber members, utilizing the services of many Chamber businesses over the years. Grand Central Park in Conroe is designating the community’s Trillium Park in the community as a setting for holiday photos throughout December. Open to the public, Trillium Park will be ornately decorated for the holiday season. Use of the space is free and appointments are not necessary. During H-E-B’s Help End Hunger campaign, customers were encouraged to donate $1, $3 or $5 at the checkout, adding the amount to their final grocery bill.

Students from The Woodlands Methodist School organized a food drive to benefit Interfaith of The Woodlands’ 45th anniversary! Students donated more than 1,000 pounds of food to help push Interfaith donations to over 10,000 pounds!
