Each April, the Chamber celebrates National Volunteer Appreciation Month with the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. This annual themed luncheon is an exclusive event for the Chamber’s nonprofit organization members to recognize their amazing contributions and impact on our community.
This year’s theme was “Super Volunteers!” because not all superheroes wear capes. Some heroes quietly display courage, conviction and determination every day as they work to support and strengthen their community.
Attendees were wowed by Keynote Speaker Marcus Bridgewater who is a nationally recognized author, influencer, educator and the CEO of Choice Forward.
These super volunteers are the backbone of our community. It’s important to honor the major positive impact they have on The Woodlands area. Thank you to Presenting Sponsor, Richmond Reality Group (richmondrealtytx.com/ the-group) for making this event possible and for continually supporting The Woodlands area community.

Nestled in the heart of The Woodlands, Waste Connections is deeply committed to participating and giving back to communities in which their employees live and work. Since moving their headquarters here from California in 2012, the company, including around 300 employees and their families, has been an integral part of this community, constantly striving to make a difference.
Being a proud standing member of The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce for 12 years, Waste Connections acknowledges it’s not just about business growth but community growth. The membership, beyond providing an opportunity for networking with other local business entrepreneurs, grants the company a chance to remain closely connected to the community pulse. It allows Waste Connections to understand the continuing development projects, the growth, the shared challenges, and the everevolving opportunities to lend a hand.
Participation is key. Waste Connections has been actively involved in numerous chamber events. The ‘Taste of the Town’ and ‘Business After Hours’ are two worthy mentions. These events act as platforms for the employees and other members to learn, share, and foster a sense of unity and understanding for this area’s business landscape.
The company recently had the honor of sponsoring the Economic Outlook Conference. The President/CEO/Founder of Waste Connections, Ron Mittelstaedt, had the privilege of participating in a panel discussion. His valuable insights and the abundance of useful information presented at this conference greatly benefited all members, regardless of the size of their businesses.
Looking ahead, Waste Connections eagerly anticipates continuing its active involvement with the chamber. The company wholeheartedly recommends that all businesses, large or small, new or established, join The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce. It’s an invaluable opportunity to be involved, get connected, and keep a pulse on the community, for it’s by being an active participant that you can truly make a difference.

One of the Chamber’s strategic goals is to be a “Catalyst for Innovation and Technology in the Region”. To that end the Chamber partnered with Houston Exponential to launch the Innovation Council. Like the Chamber, Houston Exponential (HX) is committed to cultivating a thriving ecosystem for startups, entrepreneurs and startup support businesses in the Greater Houston area.
The Innovation Council is aimed at improving the innovation ecosystem in South Montgomery County and better integrating it with the greater Houston innovation community. The council’s objective is to identify and support the innovation economy by providing advocacy, marketing and connection opportunities and resources to innovation/technology-oriented businesses and organizations.
The Woodlands area is perfectly poised to become the innovation hub of the Houston region, which would fuel economic growth, attract top talent and cultivate a dynamic ecosystem of entrepreneurship and discovery. We already have the resources, the leadership and the people to build on our thriving innovation economy that is fueled by innovators in technology, biosciences and energy.
Creating a center of innovation would enhance The Woodlands area’s reputation as a destination for people and businesses, attracting new businesses to boost the business community and the local economy.
For businesses in the innovation sector, entrepreneurs and those looking to have an impact on future growth, consider getting involved with the Innovation Council. The Innovation Council meets monthly on the second Tuesday of the month, 2:00PM – 3:00PM at the Chamber office and will host special events throughout the year.
Join us as we help create the next 50 years of The Woodlands history.
