Gov. Abbott has appointed Nelda Blair to the Public Safety Commission for terms set to expire Jan. 1, 2026. The commission oversees the Texas Department of Public Safety, which enforces laws protecting the public safety and provides for the prevention and detection of crime.

Inspiration Ranch announced Barbara Ward, Ph.D., will return as an equine-assisted therapeutic riding instructor and equine specialist. Ward will be a parttime instructor for the ranch’s therapeutic riding program and equine specialist for its mental health program. Ward is one of nine employees added to the Inspiration Ranch staff since its relocation to a 40-acre property in Magnolia.

Entergy and Congressman Brady partner with Children’s Books on Wheels (CBOW) annually to assist Montgomery County residents with an annual income of less than $56,000 with FREE TAX HELP! VGXI, Inc. announced the successful implementation of new RNA production services through completion of all Phase II initiatives as part of a license agreement with the Houston Methodist Research Institute. VGXI has established pilot mRNA manufacturing capabilities in a purpose built GMP production suite at its facility in The Woodlands. Launch of clinical grade mRNA manufacturing is anticipated in 2020.

Giving Back

The Montgomery County Food Bank, along with others, presented Sen. Brandon Creighton with a 2019 Hunger Leadership Award for his filing of SB 2334 and support of HB 3668. The Food Bank is planning a “Food for Life” safari themed gala set for March 28 to benefit the food insecure in our community. mcfoodbank.org

In 2019, Habitat for Humanity in Montgomery County celebrated 30 years of building homes! They constructed 10 new homes, repaired 25 existing homes, volunteers contributed over 30,000 hours, and secured the first Veteran family home! According to the U.S. Department of Education, Lone Star College has the largest number of online students in Texas. LSC is the first community college in Texas to roll out three bachelor’s degree programs in fall 2020: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); Applied Technology in Cybersecurity (BAT); and Applied Science in Energy, Manufacturing and Trades Management (BAS-EMTM).
