A: The Howard Hughes Corporation has supported the Chamber from day one, with our company having been a member for 43 years. When I joined Howard Hughes, I understood the positive impact the Chamber has on our community and wanted to get involved.
A: George Mitchell envisioned a community that was self-sustaining, and a place where our residents can live, play, pray, learn and WORK. To have a thriving residential community and the level of amenities all of us who live here have come to love, it is critical to maintain a robust business community. Without the property tax, sales tax, and hotel taxes generated by our business community, we would not be the #1 community in America to live. The Chamber helps support and advocate for our local business community and has contributed to its success for many years.
A: It is the Board’s responsibility to provide strategic direction, set policies, serve as ambassadors, and provide fiscal oversight for the Chamber. The most critical element, however, is to support the staff and volunteers, who really are the heart and soul of the organization.
Q: How did your time as board of directors Vice Chairman prepare you for the role of Chairman, and what are some of the distinct duties between the two positions?
A: I had the great fortune of serving as Vice Chairman under Julie Ambler. She is the ultimate professional and set a great example for me and others. The main duties of Vice Chairman are to support the Chairman and to step in as needed when schedule conflicts arise.
A: The Chamber is highly efficient and successful, so it’s about trying to find ways to continue to elevate its effectiveness in achieving the mission. We know the positive impacts a thriving and growing business community has on The Woodlands area; it is critical to not forget this if we want to maintain our #1 community to live in America ranking. I want our Economic Outlook Conference to be the premier business conference in the region. It’s well on its way, but I want to push its reputation even further.
A: We look out for each other. We pull for each other and help each other succeed in a unique way. For its size, The Woodlands area is blessed to have one of the most robust and diversified business communities you will find anywhere in the country. It is as critical to establishing our way of life here as our residents, churches, schools, and charitable organizations.
A: I was initially brought to The Woodlands, in large part, to develop Hughes Landing. I am proud of what we have created there. When I was growing up not far from The Woodlands, not many people would have imagined the commercial job center that exists today. Part of George Mitchell’s vision for The Woodlands was to have 1.5 jobs per rooftop in the community, allowing our residents short commutes and the ability to live and work here. Today, that has been accomplished, and it’s truly remarkable.
A: Many sectors of business are still recovering from the pandemic, and the current economy is bringing additional uncertainty. Many organizations are still trying to determine their optimal work environment, whether that is in the office, at home, or hybrid. The overall office vacancy in The Woodlands area remains higher than it has been historically, and we need to remain pro-business in order to fill those spaces up and provide the daytime population our restaurants, retail, and hospitality sectors need in order to thrive. The Woodlands area is positioned better than most to take advantage of the changing demands of today, but we must all come together to promote what an amazing place this is to do business.

We had a fantastic post event celebration!
The October Breakfast Connections was a Halloween themed event and members were asked to share the scariest thing they had done. We quickly learned that many of our members faced their fears by jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.
The Spotlight Sponsor of the breakfast was Spinal Care Chiropractic Center.
For more than 20 years, Spinal Care Chiropractic Center has been providing complementary healthcare services in The Woodlands. They utilize chiropractic care, acupuncture, Pilates-based rehabilitation exercises, soft tissue techniques and functional nutrition to assist their patients. Their goal is simple… to help people feel better in their day to day lives. They feel what sets them apart is that although their treatments for patients may be similar, their reasons for doing them are certainly individualized. No two patients are the same, and each has history and outside factors that influence their health and response to treatment. They work hard every day to change the lives of everyone they touch, even if they never provide them treatment. Sometimes it’s knowing when to
connect people to other providers to help them along their journey. They feel incredibly blessed to have established and built their practice by simply caring for the people who seek their care. The needs of their patients is what drives them daily, and they will continue to provide exceptional care and service for as long as possible.
During October, we celebrated Chiropractic Health Month. Spinal Care Chiropractic Center received a proclamation from the City of Shenandoah declaring October as National Chiropractic Health Month as well as October 16th as World Spine Day.
They have started to offer personalized Functional Nutrition Consultations to assist patients in achieving their health goals. The purpose is to restore health prior to disease occurring, and to provide a personalized care plan that focuses on nutrition, weight management, exercise, identifying hormone imbalances and addressing internal and external stressors, moving the patient toward a healthy functional life. Dr. Rister is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Nutrition and Functional Medicine and they are committed to helping people with the most evidenced-based information to provide the best care possible.

network that has over 100 other independently owned and operated companies throughout North America. Their niche product is not only environmentally friendly but comes with a lifetime limited warranty that is unmatched in the commercial sign industry. Their landmarks can often be placed in areas that don’t allow traditional signage. Their unique formula prevents mildew and decay in damp climates. They offer custom crafted landmarks/monuments/signs and specialty products that resemble stone to commercial and residential customers. Their primary offering is address markers, benches, drink dispensers, headstones, and commercial signage. In January 2020, they expanded from two counties (Harris & Montgomery) located near Houston to 16 counties that create a triangle including Houston, Austin to just south of Dallas.
