GIVE BACK Creating an emphasis on supporting charitable causes is not traditionally a core function for a chamber of commerce. However, given the generosity of spirit that is woven into our community culture, we believe it to be integral to our success as The Woodlands Area Chamber. This holiday season and throughout the year, I encourage you to get involved with The Chamber’s Community Relations Team. CRT is open to all members and is tasked with new projects every month that allow businesses, their employees, and individuals to help make a difference in the community. Now Taking Reservations for The Chamber’s 2020 Street Map and Resource Guide The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to once again be working with the cartographic and marketing firm of Target Marketing to publish a new, up-to-date, fullcolor South Montgomery County Area Street Map. This publication will be the only official map endorsed and distributed by The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce. In addition to the publication being a printed, overall guide to our area, the new update will also include a digital version linked from the Chamber’s website. Accurate, user-friendly maps are a popular item for our newcomers, potential commercial relocation candidates and even our lifelong residents. Leadership Montgomery County Infrastructure and Serving Our Community Session

The LMC Class of 2020 had their Infrastructure Session, sponsored by Entergy Texas, on November 7. The class heard about roads, water, power and communications infrastructure throughout the day. Save the Date 30th Annual SCI://TECH Exposition

anuary 24 marks the start of the 2020 SCI://TECH, themed Science: Itâ€™s Worth Exploring. SCI://TECH is a long-standing partnership between Education for Tomorrow Alliance, Conroe ISD, and private schools to engage students in hands-on STEM education. What started as EfTA finding volunteers for about 100 student science fair projects in the then McCullough High School gymnasium in 1990 has expanded into four weekends, 13 events, and a full day of science fair where volunteers have the chance to judge nearly 1,500 projects. The 30th Annual SCI://TECH kicks off on January 24 with the Private School Science Fair and Senior High Science Bowl, and extends through the Consolidated Communications Junior High Engineering Design Competition on February 22. Community volunteers still play a critical role in supporting SCI://TECH programming, with the greatest need for science fair judges on January 31 at 7:45 am, 9:30 am, and 2:00 pm at the Lone Star Convention Center. Business Advocacy Council Harris County Flood Control District Project Updates The Harris County Flood Control District Director of Operations Alan Black addressed the Business Advocacy Council on November 15 at The Chamber. Black presented the district’s Regional Flood Study and informed members of valuable tools available to help prepare residents and businesses alike for flooding issues in Montgomery County and surrounding areas.

About the Harris County Flood Control District The Harris County Flood Control District is a special purpose District created by the Texas legislature in 1937 after community leaders petitioned for assistance in response to devastating floods in 1929 and 1935. Since its creation, the Flood Control District has successfully partnered with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on many projects, and through the years, the District’s partnerships and capabilities have expanded significantly. CRT is helping breast cancer patients “Feel Beautiful Again” This month the Community Relations Team partnered with The Breast Cancer Charities of America and iGoPink to collect items for their Feeling Beautiful Again Program. Much like a canned food drive, members collected beauty products instead to provide women going through breast cancer with a beauty bag of HOPE. Included are items that make women smile and feel like a true woman again. A simple touch of lip gloss can make them feel pretty and blush can help brighten the complexion of the illness. These items and others are included in the beauty bags and distributed to hospital partners nationwide.

iGoPink is a national non-profit focusing on educating, empowering and encouraging everyone to become proactive in preventing and surviving breast cancer. Through free program services, patients are educated, taught and given the latest accurate information about integrated cancer care, cancer prevention, recovery, treatment, early detection and survival. Meals on Wheels of Montgomery County was blessed to use the City of Conroe building at Candy Cane Park since 2002. Continuing to invest in their community, Kean Miller The Woodlands recently fielded a team to support the North Houston Association of Professional Landmen’s 7th Annual Sporting Clays Tournament to benefit the professional development of land professionals and raised money for scholarships and donations to several nonprofits. All participants are senior counsel for the Kean Miller Oil and Gas Group in The Woodlands. Interfaith of The Woodlands recently received two grants from Woodforest National Bank’s Woodforest Charitable Foundation. A $10,00 grant will help purchase much needed dental and medical equipment and a $30,000 grant to help fund Interfaith’s many programs and services such as Holiday GIVING and the Food Pantry.

The program provides a unique opportunity for adult students with cognitive disabilities to learn the social and skill expectations needed in business, academics and personal relationships. Forty-three local K-8 students, representing 70 schools throughout the county, were recognized and awarded cash prizes in a packed courtroom of teachers, school principals, parents and excited siblings on The Dispute Resolution Center’s Conflict Resolution Day for their creative bookmark art with Judge Kathleen Hamilton of the 359th Judicial District Court, Senator Brandon Creighton, and Sir John Olivarri, with the Arabia Shriners.
