Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

On Monday we joined with the rest of the world to say our final goodbyes to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen’s dedication to public service has been an inspiration to Grovians over the past 70 years.

Year 7 Activity Day

Year 7 enjoyed a great Activity Day during the first week of term, getting to know each other whilst spending the day doing team building activities and challenges. Well done to form 7S who were the overall winners of the day. To see more photos from the day please click HERE.

New Head Prefects

Arts Awards

Today, was the formal presentation of awards for those who submitted to and passed the Trinity Art Exam.

D&D Club’s New Masters

D&D Club welcomed a staggering 56 players at launch night this September. With such a huge attendance, a number of the regular players have taken on the role of 'Dungeon Master’, managing their own team and mentoring new players. A special thank you to those 9 new Dungeon Masters who have helped the club to grow and a great community to develop.

Record Numbers at DT Club

There were record numbers at last week’s first DT Club meeting. 34 pupils from Years 7 to 9 started work on ideas for the 2022 Bradford Manufacturing Week (BMW22) competition: 'Tech for Good'. They have 4 weeks to design a product that could help work towards one or more of the UN's sustainability goals, before the top entries are presented to the BMW22 panel.

Hello September

Our current Poet Laureate, Lily Edwards Y11 has written a poem to welcome the new school year and the changing of the seasons called ‘Hello September’. Keep an eye out this term for a chance to take over as the school's Poet Laureate for 2022 2023.

Performing Arts Calendar

Well done to Will and Eddie Gough who completed their Year 9 and Year 7 Grove Awards over the summer. This included being sponsored to walk the three Yorkshire Peaks over three days in aid of St Gemma's Hospice.

Library Time

Year 7 have been discovering all that the Library has to offer, and making the most out of the quiet study space.

Sixth Form Talks

Old Grovians who were previously successful with their Oxbridge applications came in recently to discuss the process with our Year 12s. They talked through the application process as well as giving interview tips. Also, Bradford Hospitals' youth led panel Young Dynamos came in to talk to Sixth Form about their work and encourage students to join them.

Brass Band Finals

Well done to Kitty Hawker Y11 who played for the Lofthouse 2000 brass band at the National Brass Band Championship Finals. The band played well and came 5th out of 18. Kitty was then offered the solo trombone chair.

A Royal Horse Show Win

Congratulations to Macie Donaldson Y8 who over summer competed at one of the most prestigious Horse shows in the Country, The Longines Royal International Horse Show. Macie and her pony qualified for the 133cm Show Hunter Pony Class and went on to win Royal International Horse Show. She also won Reserve Champion Hunter of the Show. What an amazing achievement, well done Macie!

Cricket Victory

Well Done to Max Chaplin Y10 and the Yorkshire U14 squad who won the Royal London U14 National County Championship Final recently, beating Surrey in a very tense final by 3 wickets down.

National School Games

Congratulations to Eilidh Molloy Y11 who recently competed in the National School Games 2022. Eilidh competed in 2 days of the triathlon individual events and then ran the last leg in the mixed relay team for Yorkshire.

Continued Karate Success

Well done to Harrison Y9 and Lewis Riley Y8, who competed in the GB Open Karate Championships recently. Harrison took Gold in his individual Ippon category and Lewis who fought up a year and in a harder belt range, took Bronze in the same category, only losing to Harrison in the semi final.

Play Your Way to Wimbledon

Natalie Flynn and Dara Treanor Y10 won the 'Play your way to Wimbledon' tournament at school last term. They represented themselves as a doubles pair at Wimbledon over summer and played in 2 matches. Out of 10,000 people that went through the competition nationally only 192 got through to Wimbledon, so a super achievement!

Cheerleading

Well done to Phoebe Sugden Y8 who tried out for Team England Pom and successfully gained a place in the under 15s squad. They will compete at the ICU World Championships in April 2023 held at ESPN Wide World of Sport Complex in Florida.

Cross Country

Three teams of U14 runners competed in the Ilkley Junior Fell Relays, on 7th of September. The boys' team came 3rd, girls' team 2nd and mixed team 2nd. Well done to all on a great start to the season.

Snapchat remains one of the most popular apps used by children and young people. Snapchat has a Family Centre feature which includes seeing what friends their children have been sending messages to and a complete list of their child's existing friends.
