Post-18 Presentations

Congratulations to Sixth Former Kadia Barry for getting through to the KS5 National final of the Poetry By Heart competition, which will take place at The Globe Theatre this June. This is an amazing achievement and we wish Kadia the best of luck in the upcoming final.

In form time this week, Year 13 have been putting together presentations for their ‘top tips’ on preparing for Post-18 applications and presenting them to each other.

Outdoor Cricket Nets Opening Last Friday, Year 7 were lucky enough to be the first people to try out the brand new Last Friday, Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh outdoor cricket nets. They had a great time students went on a weekend expedition. breaking them in during their games lesson.

They walked from Ilkley to Baildon on day 1 We are delighted that the nets are now and then from Baildon to Bingley St Ives on officially open for use. day 2. Conditions were glorious, and the very cold evening was made a little warmer with a camp fire and the toasting of marshmallows. A very well done to everyone who took part.

Fencing Last Saturday, Grove fencers were in Harrogate for Part 1 of the Northern Youth League. Well done to Year 9s Liam Matley, Joshua Myers, Reilly Keates and Daniel Burdon who fenced in the Under 16 event, and to Zac Nelson Year 9 and Year 8s William O’Toole, Dexter Small and Charles McLarnon who fenced in the Under 14’s event. All the boys won matches and performed extremely well against experienced fencers from other Northern clubs. A massive thank you to Kira Grahamslaw Year 10, who volunteered to come along and help coach.

Cross Country

Netball Year 9 and 10 netballers had a great time away last weekend on their Netball Tour to Shropshire. 53 players went on the tour and enjoyed a variety of activities and competed in a netball tournament. Two Year 10 teams and one Year 9 team ended up with 3rd place finishes. Congratulations to one of the Year 10 teams who finished in 1st place.

Well done on the Netball results girls, we hope you had a fun weekend away!

Well done to Summer Anderson, Grace Ross and Phoebe Turner who were involved in U16 Club National Finals last weekend.

Securing a 11th place spot by the end of the weekend.

Cleo Hainsworth, Bella Strudwick and Vida Richmond-Coggan Y7, all took part in the Sisters n Sport Club Cup Finals on the same weekend finishing in 2nd place.

On Saturday the Cross Country Team visited Roundhay Parkrun for a club social run and the first of many more Parkrun visits. Well done to Jacob Best Y9, for coming 5th out of the 300 runners and Charley Clark-Taylor Y8 on being the first female finisher coming 6th. Cricket Last Wednesday, the girls' 1st XI cricket team Well done to all the runplayed their first-ever cricket match against Hill House School, followed by a second match against Ampleforth College this week.

What a memorable week for the girls involved and also for WGS cricket.

The U13 girls also had fun this week at a fixture against Bradford Grammar.

Football Congratulations to Jake Ford Y7, who has been offered a new 2-year contract with Manchester United. This is an amazing achievement, well done Jake!

The Royal Windsor Horse Show Well done to Macie Donaldson Y7, who was competing today in the 13.2 show pony class at The Royal Windsor Horse Show.

Competing at this highly prestigious show in front of Royalty is a great achievement, and we hope that Macie and pony Stanley Grange Swansong had a wonderful day.

‘No Mow’ Mound As part of the effort towards becoming a more environmentally friendly school, we have designated the Mound as a ‘No Mow’ area. As a result of this we get to enjoy the diversity of flowers and plants now growing on the mound.

House Points STEM Club Year 7 and 8 STEM club students have been investigating how humans augment themselves; considering the engineering that goes into prosthetic limbs and building their own. To watch a video of their work in action, click the photos below.

Well done to Isla Swarbrigg, Y12, for achieving the milestone of 50 House Points for Findlay House. Isla was awarded a trophy to recognise this fantastic achievement.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream Royal Armouries Trip Year 8 had a great time at the Royal Armouries this week. They completed two workshops, tried on actual armour and equipment, wielded some of the weapons used, and followed actual training manuals to learn how to use pipes and muskets.
