Poetry by Heart

Congratulations to Kadiatou Barry, Year 12, who won the Yorkshire Regional round to reach the National Finals of the Poetry by Heart competition held at the Globe Theatre this week.

Kadiatou read Song (Ae Fond Kiss) by Robert Burns beautifully and thoroughly enjoyed this amazing opportunity to recite on stage at The Globe in front of other young poets.

Mrs Sharpe was also entered into the National staff competition which she won with her recital of Passing the Time by Caroline Bird.

Year 8 & 10 Adventure Days

Our Y8 and 10 pupils have both had Adventure days at Rother Valley Water Park in Sheffield in the last couple of weeks.

They were blessed with fantastic weather and there was a huge variety of exciting activities they could take part in.

Activities included: mountain biking, canoeing, aqua trikes, kayaking, paddle boarding, raft building and archery.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Athletics Congratulations to the team who went to the West Yorkshire Championships on the 11th June. Grove pupils made up the majority of the Bradford team and the event itself was smaller than previous years but we were still delighted with the following top 3 results.

On 21st & 22nd June, 25 students from Years 9 & 10 performed ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. This was a particularly exciting production as it was the first to take place outside! Audiences were invited to bring picnics and refreshments to enjoy whilst being entertained by the talented cast. The whole cast were well matched in their passion and enthusiasm for the production and gave some truly stand-out performances.

Mrs Baker said, “It has been a pleasure to work with this cast of exceptional young people, as well as take the opportunity to bring theatre outdoors onto the beautiful grounds of the school”.

STEM CLUB This week STEM club used an old sink to construct a pond that will hopefully encourage more wildlife to an area in the school grounds.

Following this performance Maisey Bellwood, Year 9 reached the qualifying standard and was selected to represent West Yorkshire at the English Schools Athletics Championships on 7th & 8th of July.

Drummers’ Concert On Thursday 15 performers from Years 7 to 12 held a Drummers’ concert . They each played a graded exam song, followed by a more rocky song of their choice. The concert was finished by Max Warland who performed ‘Master of Puppets’ in preparation for his future diploma.

National Boarding Week A fun packed weekend for our boarders as part of National Boarding Week. Camping on Saturday and paint-balling on Sunday resulted in some very tired boarders! Great for them to make memories and a special mention to Chloe for her camp craft, keeping the fire going all night.

Year 8 Geography Y8 geographers enjoyed the sunshine whilst conducting environmental quality surveys at a variety of sites on the school grounds.

Yorkshire Terriers Rugby Last Saturday a group of our Year 13 rugby boys were invited to play for Yorkshire Terriers 7's team. Congratulations to them as they reached the semi-finals, only losing to the overall winning French team.

Slovenian Visitors This week we welcomed two colleagues from Slovenia, who were work-shadowing as part of a larger Erasmus+ Early Years experience in local nurseries in Leeds.

They viewed some lessons and gained an insight into how music and performance work in the Grove and Brontë.

The visit was capped off with a quick walk up to Otley Chevin for a musical performance of a different kind and then a highly entertaining rendition of A Midsummer Night's Dream which they thoroughly enjoyed.

The Power of Music Thanks to 10S for their amazing assembly about the power of music. The assembly included students singing songs by Harry Styles and Oasis and delivered a powerful message.

Family Funday Sunday 3rd July

Year 9 Coding As part of our Y9 Computing curriculum, students have been learning about Mobile App development. This module forms part of the curriculum created by the NCCE for Key Stage 3 students.

YouTube have been making some improvements to their parental controls and settings and there are a number of new features that are available to parents, not only in the main YouTube service but also for YouTube Kids.
