Jubilee Weekend Performance Thank you to the Swing Band and Jazz Band led by Mr McGuffie and Mr Wears for giving up their time to entertain the crowds and celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee at Micklefield Park over the bank holiday. Everyone sounded fantastic and it was a wonderful day in the sunshine.

Costume Hire for AMND There's not long to go until the two outdoor performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream on the 21st and 22nd of June. This week the cast went on a special trip to Leeds Playhouse Costume Hire to choose some of the shows main costumes. D and D Club Awards Leo Wood, Y7 has been awarded the 'The Fellowship of the Grove Badge of Honour'.

Well done Leo for being the first Year 7 to be awarded this honour, and for being an asset in every team this term as the formidable character, Trodious Blade! Mr Steadman also received 'The Fellowship of the Grove Badge of Honour'. The DnD club said thank you and goodbye to him as he leaves having completed teacher training.

Zip the Cow Winners Congratulations to Jack Eastell, Y8, George Ingham, Y9 and Daniel Burrows, Y12 who are our three Zip the Cow winners and will be taking off from the iconic Cow rock and flying high above Wharfedale during the summer break. Thanks to everyone who entered. We are delighted to be a main sponsor of this event which supports Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice.

Cross Country The Cross Country athletes were working on running form and core stability during training sessions this week.

Golf Well done to Benjy Saia Y10, who was chosen to play golf for Yorkshire Boys U16s against the Northern Counties Boys last week. Benjy won both his matches; 5 & 3 and 7 & 6. He even scored a hole in one in his second match (his first ever)!

Cricket The 1st XI players had a great afternoon games lesson this week, working on their tactics ahead of this weekend’s match against St Peter's School.

Play Your Way to Wimbledon A round robin doubles tennis tournament was held on Saturday involving Years 7 -10 boys and girls. The boys winners Dan Littlejohns and Will Gray and the girls winners Dara Treanor and Nat Flynn will represent the school at the county finals at the John Charles Centre later this month.

Green Grove The Green Grove Pioneers have made another successful application to Woodland Trust: Free Trees for Schools, meaning 420 new saplings will be planted this year as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy campaign. The Pioneers need help from students, parents, staff and the local community to clear the space on the riverbank for the saplings over the summer.

Friends of Woodhouse Grove The FOWG collects all items of pre loved uniform & sports kit. This includes outgoing styles that can be kept in circulation for Year 11 over the next 12 months. We also collect for Changing Stars Malawi.

Weather Updates This week, Year 7 geographers have been observing and recording the weather over a few days and using the information to produce their own innovative weather reports.

VR Recycling Plant Experience At the end of last half term, we were lucky enough to have been lent two Virtual Reality Headsets by the environmental activism company Beauparc, to educate pupils on how a recycling plant works. The headsets were a huge success with many pupils, and even some staff, using them. What an innovative way to learn about recycling!

New Uniform in Full Effect If you’re looking to buy new school uniform over the summer, please remember that for the next academic year, our new uniform will be in full effect throughout the school.

This means everyone, other than those who will be in Year 11 next academic year, will be required to have the new school uniform.

Castle Building In history this week Year 7 students have been presenting their homemade castles.

Students had to describe how they would defend their motte and bailey or stone keep castle from attack. Josiah Stockill was crowned class 'King of the castle' due to his impressive Lego structure which included a drawbridge, dungeon and Lego prisoner.

DofE Expedition Good luck to all the Duke of Edinburgh students who set off on their two day expedition yesterday. Having done their practice walk already, we’re sure they’ve had a great time walking and camping in the sunshine this week.

Science Lessons Year 7 chemists have been getting hands on using models to learn about molecules this week.
