Year 12 Careers Talks

Nicky Sellers, from Bettys and Taylors spoke to Year 12 last week about careers within the hospitality industry. It was a great insight into a career some students might not have considered. Natalie Walker (Director of Talent & Development) from Gilbert Meher also spoke with Year 12 about preparing for the world of work and gave some 'top tips' for interviews.

Alice in Wonderland

Year 7 and 8 took us to Wonderland this week performing outdoors on the ‘holy grass' of the Grove Quad, and indoors due to Tuesday’s rain. With a cast of over 50 students and including an exclusive 30-minute pre-show gig from our Year 9 'School of Rock' band, it was an incredible production. Well done to everyone involved, including Kim Baker, this is her final production at the Grove having produced some amazing shows over the last 5 years!
Poetry By Heart
Good luck to Lily Edwards, Year 11, who is competing in the national final of the Poetry By Heart competition in London this weekend! It is an amazing achievement to reach this stage and we wish her the best of luck.
Grove Awards

They completed challenges ranging from growing and selling sunflowers to raise money for leukaemia research, to taking part in this week's 'Alice in Wonderland' production and a wide array of different sporting endeavours. Year 7 to Year 9

Netball
Well done to Isla Eaglestone (Year 9), Taylor Crowther, Ellie Beaini and Georgie Cothliff (Year 8) who won the West Yorkshire Tournament in Bradford at the weekend with their U14 YMCA Netball Team.

Football
Two Year 11's took a break from GCSE exams to play against each other in the U16 Craven, Aire & Wharfe Cup final. Harry Bates played for Menston and Cameron Bojas played for Guiseley, who won on penalties.

Athletics
Well done to all participants of the Bradford Athletics League competition held last week. Each team showcased remarkable performances our Junior Boys, Junior Girls, and Inter Girls teams claimed the first-place positions, while our Inter Boys team achieved a second-place finish. Well done to all involved!

Well done to our girl’s teams who competed in the Regional Schools Athletics Cup Final. Our Junior Girls team placed 6th and the Inter Girls Team 8th.
Golf
Well done to Henry Murphy, Year 10, Rory Henderson Year 12, and Harry Bates Year 11, who represented Bradford Golf Club Junior B team against Bingley St Ives

Charity Cake Bake Sale
Our six Houses rose to the challenge of selling cakes, buns and biscuits during morning breaks this week. Staff and pupils used every tactic to encourage sales and empty tables were the result! A huge thanks to all who prepared, sold and ate for our 2 school charities: EduKid and Candlelighters. Thanks also to Mr Eaglestone and Mr Caroleo for their help.
Geography Trip

The Year 10 geographers were in Bridlington last week collecting data on beach gradient and sediment size and assessing the success of regeneration in the town. It was a very productive day as well as lots of fun!



Chester Zoo
Last week Year 7 visited Chester Zoo as part of the biology enrichment programme. They have been learning about animal adaptations in lessons and then had the opportunity to observe them in their natural habitat. The penguins were a firm favourite, Shaiyan Thakor captured this fantastic photo of one using its flippers to propel itself through the water.


Zip the Cow
Congratulations to Matilda Frazer and Shern Van Den Hof, both Year 7, and Catherine Potter, Year 13 who won the zip wire competition and will be enjoying the amazing view of Wharfedale in July. Congratulations also to Mrs Sharpe and Mrs Carey who were our staff winners. We are one of the sponsors of this family event raising money for Sue Ryder. The Tempest
Mrs Sharpe's Year 7 English class made the most of the beautiful weather and the school's amphitheatre last week as they performed scenes from Shakespeare's play, 'The Tempest'. Exploring a range of comedic features, they competed to see who could make the audience laugh the most!


UCAS Fair
The Post-18 process is well underway for Year 12 who recently visited Leeds Beckett University, where they attended the UCAS fair. The fair allowed the students to speak to a range of university and apprenticeship providers whilst also having the chance to listen to a range of talks.



DnD Club
As the second year of Dungeons & Dragons Club draws to an end, Dungeon Master Reilly Keates, Year 10, showed off his awesome leadership skills by creating and delivering a special 'one-shot' adventure to the whole group: 'The Crimson

Old Grovian History Lessons
It's been wonderful having Old Grovian Tom Pratt in school with us over the past few weeks working with Year 10 and Year 12 historians. Tom has just graduated with a 1st class degree in contemporary military and international history from Salford University. He has been sharing his knowledge of both university life and history with students. Well done Tom - and thank you!
Drummers Concert
We had a fantastic Drummers’ Concert yesterday, with lots of very talented performers showing

On Wednesday, Year 12 students Winnie Offland and Max Warland took to the stage at Leeds Arena to perform as part of the Leeds Year of Culture 2023 festival. Max was percussionist for the City of Leeds Youth Orchestra and Winnie was leading her band Holeinthe Ceiling from Leeds Junior Conservatoire.

Final Park Run
