Post-18 Event
Rugby and Reunions
On Tuesday we held a Post-18 event where Sixth Form pupils and parents got the chance to chat with different Universities and organisations about the opportunities available once they finish Sixth Form. The event was a great success, as pupils got to talk directly with University and organisation representatives about the different types of Post-18 opportunities on offer.
On Easter Monday, 1st team Captain, George Worthington Y13 attended the Ultimate Rugby 7s Academy Regional Festival in Solihull where teams from the North campaigned against teams from the South. George was asked to Captain the North under 18 teams. The North won the competition across all age groups resulting in winning the Oscar Montgomery Memorial Trophy. Whilst at the festival, George bumped into Old Grovians Sam Kildunne, who was coaching an under 15 team, and Mustafa Sajjad.
Cricket Young Officials Thank you to Nick Boyes for delivering the Young Officials course to our Sixth Form Sports Leaders this week. We look forward to seeing our new umpires and scorers in action in the near future!
Easter Egg Competitions Well done to the two Y9 pupils that won the Easter egg jar guessing competition, and won themselves an Easter egg!
Netball Well done to Harriet King Y12, who played for the Leeds Rhinos U19 squad at the closing weekend in Nottingham during the holidays. Phoebe Turner Y10, played in the Leeds Rhinos U17s squad at the same closing weekend. Well done to the U17 Rhinos team who ended up finishing 1st beating Manchester Thunder in the final.
Cross Country Last night was the first ever XC Club awards evening, which was a huge success. There was a guest speaker, speeches from staff and the Club Captain as well as many deserved team and individual awards being handed out. Well done to all of the winners.
Badminton Success Rugby Over the Easter holidays there were many rugby successes. Congratulations to Ned McCormack Y12, who has been selected to train with England U17's. What a fantastic achievement, we hope Ned enjoys his weekend training up at Newcastle Falcons. Well done to Archie Hurford, Rufus Halliday and Thomas Rowe all Y11, on winning the U16s Yorkshire Cup with West Park Leeds RUFC. Archie and Fergus McCormack Y11 have also recently been playing for the Leeds Rhinos U16 team, as well as the Yorkshire Rugby Academy. Congratulations to Belle Nimmo Y9, who has been selected for the Yorkshire U15 Girls squad!
Alex Steel, Y7 and the U12 Yorkshire Badminton team competed in the National County Championship Finals. The team finished the season in 3rd place with a fantastic bronze medal after wins over Surrey and Leicestershire, and losing closely to the eventual winners Kent.
Cricket Over Easter many cricketers have been chosen to represent county squads. Well done to everyone selected. Lewis Howard has been selected for the Yorkshire East & Central U15 squad. Noah Thirkill and Awais Khan have been selected for the Yorkshire West U14 squad. Theo McLelland and Adam Hussain have been selected for the Yorkshire West U13 squad. George Cameron has been selected for the Yorkshire East & Central U12 squad.

National Short Story Winner Congratulations to Francesca Tartaglia Y10, who has achieved a “highly commended” for her short story entry in the Young Walter Scott Prize 2021. This is an amazing achievement and Fran will get to take part in their writing workshop in summer.
Geography Club Geography Club measured the food miles of their favourite meals. In total the club's ingredients had travelled 293,326 miles to reach their plates!
DofE Overnight Expedition DofE students set off today on an expedition, from Ilkley Moor and camping overnight. We hope everyone taking part has a lovely time, and that the weather stays in your favour!
A Midsummer Night’s Dream Rehearsals for A Midsummer Night's Dream are underway and the cast were fantastic during their read through on Monday, really bringing Shakespeare's comedy off the page! There were giggles and gasps as characters fell in love, betray their friends and cause magic and mischief in the forest. The mechanicals had Ms Evers laughing out loud and the infamous argument between our leading ladies, Hermia and Helena, was brilliantly tense. We look forward to seeing the play later this term.
Zip the Cow Once again we are delighted to be one of the main sponsors of the Sue Ryder Manorlands Zip The Cow event. This will be held on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th July and participants zip off the top of the cow rock on Ilkley Moor. Anyone brave enough to have a go? (Please note; riders must weigh between 6 and 17 stone to take part).
