Post-18 Evening

It was fantastic to see so many of our Year 12 students and their families at our Post-18 launch event on Tuesday night. A combination of talks and exhibitor stalls allowed them to explore their choices post Woodhouse Grove, and to make more informed decisions regarding their future. Thank you to all our exhibitors for attending. It was particularly pleasing to speak to Old Grovians who have been through a range of different routes and shared their experiences with our current students.

Rugby Star!

It’s been a fantastic week for Ned McCormack, Y13. Following his superb performance for England in the U18 Six Nations festival – where he was Man of The Match in the Eng v France game and scored a try against Ireland – Ned has signed a professional contract for Leeds Rhinos! We are so incredibly proud of Ned’s achievements in the world of Rugby and it is clear what a valuable asset Ned is to any team; something we have known at The Grove since he joined Brontё, aged just 9! Well done Ned, we wish you the best of luck.

Cheerleading Champions

Congratulations to Phoebe Sugden, Y8, and the rest of the Team England Youth Pom Team who represented England in the Cheerleading World Championships Finals in Florida during the Easter holidays. They finished in 4th place!

Dance Success

Congratulations to Tilly Raj, Y11, who has successfully auditioned to become a Royal Ballet Advanced Associate, her seventh year of training, and now based at the Covent Garden studios in London. She has also been accepted to attend the prestigious Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance Summer Course in July. Over Easter Tilly had further competition success, becoming the TDCI North and West Yorkshire Senior Tap Champion and the East Midlands Senior Ballet Champion.

Mr Eaglestone’s Charity Marathon

Good luck to Mr Eaglestone who on the 14th May will be running the Rob Burow Marathon in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association. If you live anywhere along the marathon route, please come along to support and to give Mr Eaglestone some encouragement!

Barcelona Football Tour

During the second week of the holidays, 43 students from Years 9 and 10, and 5 staff travelled to Spain for the junior football tour. The group was split into 3 teams, with each team playing two fixtures against local Spanish opposition, as well as playing in a tournament against other UK touring schools. The touring party also spent some time in Barcelona, had a tour of the Nou Camp and spent a day at a theme park. Overall, it was a highly enjoyable week and a big thank you must go to the staffwhohelpedensureasuccessfultour.

Sustainability at WGS

To improve sustainability, the Jubilee pool has been fitted with a new cover that will be used overnight, to reduce heat loss and save energy. In addition we are adding the boundary walkway to our No Mow May initiative. This campaign encourages people not to mow their lawns until the end of May in order to boost the flowers, and nectar, for pollinating insects.

Science Winners

Last Term for National Science Week, students took part in a poster designing competition with the theme of connections. Well done to all who took part, and to the competition winners.

Battlefields Trip

It was an amazing couple of days in Northern France and Belgium for our Year 9 students at the end of their Easter break. With thought provoking visits to cemeteries, trenches and museums coupled with a visit to Bruges and, of course, the chocolate shop in Ypres!

Two of our students laid a wreath on behalf of the school at the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate. Students particularly enjoyed exploring the underground tunnels re created at the

Friends of Woodhouse Grove

We are excited to share the adventures of two of our Year 7 boys and their mums who travelled out to meet Changing Stars Malawi and volunteer over the Easter break.

All our outgoing uniforms are already being put to good use and are being distributed to the children of refugee camps in the region, following the impact of Cyclone Freddy.

Thank you to all those who have donated to the ABA & FOWG Pre Loved Fundraising, enabling us to make this final meaningful contribution of outgoing styles. We continue to collect current styles for the Pre Shop.
