Remember Me - Senior Production ‘Remember Me’ was a raw, powerful and emotional collection of scenes, performance poetry and musical performances which showcased the range of amazingly talented performers that we have. What’s more, many of the scenes were written by the cast themselves! The show really highlighted the plethora of talent that we have here and the whole cast and crew are to be congratulated. We certainly will remember them!
Y12 Geography Residential Y12 geographers went on a 3 day residential to the Cranedale Centre, North Yorkshire last week. They studied microclimates in Beverley, sand dune transects in Bridlington, beach sediment and coastal protection in Hornsea and place studies in Scarborough.

A-level Philosophy Workshop Last week, Year 12 and 13 A-level philosophy students enjoyed an interactive online workshop, run by Dr Maria Serban from The University of East Anglia. The session focused on developing students’ critical thinking skills in philosophical enquiry, by examining the use of heuristics. The workshop highlighted the importance of ambiguous language and students reflected upon their own language used during philosophical debate.
Y7 ‘Hats Off’ Competition As ever the variety of ‘Country’ entries was fantastic and we were amazed by students creativity and the amount of time that had gone into making some fabulous creations. The winning entries were well deserved. Well done to... 1st Ameerah 2nd Clark 3rd Jack
Chess Championships We entered two teams in the West Yorkshire Schools Chess Championships, which has not run for many years. It was fantastic to see 16 teams of four students from all over West Yorkshire competing. There were strict rules about talking, timing and illegal moves and our students were a credit to WGS. The tournament will be completed next term as there are still 3 matches to be played. Our A team (Lucas Martin Salarich, Charlie Wright, Harry Kerfoot (C) and Rakelmi Williams-Colley) won 11 out of 12 matches and our B team (George Hyatt, Cameron Willey (C), Jacob Willey (C), Shern Van Den Hof) won two and drew one. A superb effort by all.
Alcohol Awareness
UK Space Design Competition
Our Year 7 & 8 students got to take part in the interactive 'Smashed Project' last week. Smashed is a life-changing, education theatre production that travels the UK tackling underage drinking. It works to empower young people with positive thinking and prepares them to deal with peer pressure: 'For when the world inevitably throws out choices - be ready to make an informed one'.
7 students Years 10-13 represented the school in the regional heat of the UKSDC at the University of York. This is a multidisciplinary industry simulation event and lasts for 11 hours. The students formed a company with pupils from another school and had to design a settlement on the moon to a given brief. They narrowly missed out on progressing to the national finals but learned a lot about themselves, careers in space-related fields and working with others.
Senior Kangaroo UK Maths Trust Our Senior Kangaroo entrants sat their challenge paper two weeks ago and the results are in. A score of 50 was required to obtain a merit - and we are pleased to announce that Charlie Wright, in Year 12, achieved a score of 55 and was awarded a sought after merit certificate. Thomas Craven (Y13), Noah Melake (Y12), Ruby Xiong (Y12), Jamie Roberts (Y11) and Philip Wright (Y13) were all awarded certificates of qualification. Congratulations to all involved - and especially to Charlie!

This was following an excellent home win last week over St Peter’s 41-17; the spectators witnessed a ‘try fest’ in the first half, with a solid second half, which guaranteed the win. They face Kirkham Grammar away on Wed 6th Dec at 2pm. All support welcome.
