Women in Stem
Last week, some of our Year 10 students took part in a "Women in STEM" day at the University of Bradford. There was an introduction from the Vice Chancellor, Shirley Congdon, followed by a panel discussion with female professionals from across a variety of sectors including AI. The students then spoke with these successful women and their teams at a careers fair. Finally the students had a tour of the University labs for AI, cancer therapeutics, bioengineering and pharmaceuticals. The students left feeling
Arup Engineering Workshop
The Arup engineering workshops for Year 12 Maths pupils and the whole of Year 10, were a resounding success. The engineers from ARUP led engaging sessions for both year groups covering a careers talk and bridge building activities. The sixth form pupils had an additional session studying bridge design. They were challenged to re-design a footbridge for the electrification of the rail line to Manchester and then presented their designs to the other groups.
The Addams Family
Wow! What an incredible production of the Addams Family last night by our students from Years 9 and 10. Some amazing solos and comedic timing. Congratulations to everyone involved on stage and behind the scenes...good luck for tonight.
Science Week
Years 7, 8 and 9 have been enjoying a range of activities within their lessons, form time and some even attempting to escape from our Science Escape Room at lunchtime. The theme for this year's Science Week has been 'Time', which has involved looking at reaction times of super fast animals vs our students, the creation of fossils, the speed of the Mars Rover landing, and rates of chemical reactions.

Our Year 13 biologists have been practising some genetic engineering techniques. They have been transforming E.coli with a specialised 'pGlo' plasmid. If the students successfully transform the bacteria with the plasmid, then they will be able to culture the bacteria on agar plates containing ampicillin.
Individual Successes
Congratulations to Thomas H, Year 9, who passed his Grade 6 electric guitar with merit and to James H, Year 8, who passed Grade 1 drums with distinction.
, Year 12, played netball for Wales at the U17 European Championships. She earned 4 more caps for Wales as they finished 3rd in the tournament.
Emily C, Year 8, competed at the Yorkshire NDP gymnastic preliminaries and came 2nd with her partner. An amazing performance earning a high score. Well done to Charley CT who raced for Yorkshire U15 girls at the Intercounties Cross Country Championships. Charley came 80th our of almost 300 runners in her race, just missing out on being the final counter for the bronze medal winning Yorkshire team.
Year 12 Theatre Trip
Last Thursday, the A-level Drama and Theatre students went to York Theatre Royal to see a production of 'Blue Beard, directed by Emma Rice. Daisy May said;
Blue Beard was one of my favourite performances I have watched as a Drama student. Emma Rice uses a variety of devices to highlight to the audience the ways women were abused and mistreated powerful play. After watching the play, I felt inspired with many ideas for my A-level drama course.
Basketball Season Begins
It was great to see our U18 team, including some of our boarders, enjoying their first basketball fixture of the year, narrowly losing 24-21 to Beckfoot School.

In Junior Girls Squash, Atkinson came first, Vinter second and Southerns third.
Green Grove Needs You!

FOWG Bingo Night Success
Thank you to everyone who supported the FOWG Bingo night and congratulations to the winners!
Over 50 people had eyes down for an evening of bingo compèred by Mr Eaglestone and enjoyed food from the school’s catering team. Keep an eye out for future events on social media.
National Careers Week 2024
The school's "Futures" programme is a full school programme designed to help prepare students across all year groups for life after The Grove.
As part of this programme, students were involved in a variety of activities for National Careers week, including attending a diverse range of talks on careers such as midwifery, finance, music and sustainability; taking part in a virtual careers fair and attending assemblies aimed at furthering their knowledge about careers in industries such as travel and tourism and home services.
Second-Hand Devices - A guide
We understand that parents will often hand down out-of-contract devices to their children.
This is great and can save a lot of money, but there needs to be consideration before handing older devices to children. You can find lots of useful information, things to consider and guides to second-hand devices from Internet Matters HERE.
Cricket
Well done to our U13 girls cricketers who played in the Yorkshire Finals at Headingley last week against tough competition. Good luck to the boys in their finals next Friday.
Rugby 7s Roundup
Our U12 squad continue to gain experience playing at the St Peter’s and Aysgarth 7s where our U13 came 3rd. The U14s placed 3rd at the Hymers 7s tournament.
At Ampleforth, our 1st VII lost to Sedbergh in the final and the U15s lost in the plate semi-final.
Our U16 lost in the bowl final at Sedbergh.
Football
Congratulations to our 1st and 2nd XI who both won at Ampleforth last week, winning 4-2 and 8-2 respectively.
Well done to Sam S, Year 7, who has been signed by Bradford City for 2 years and to Frank W, Year 8, who has been training with Manchester United Emerging Talent over the last 6 weeks.

Netball History Made
Our 1st VII squad made school history last week by reaching the Final of the IS National Cup. They faced Berkhamsted School and despite a challenging 1st quarter, the girls did not give up the fight, showing true passion and resilience throughout the game, before finishing as runners up 53:42. We are incredibly proud of them all.
Our amazing 2nd VII played in the Northern semi-final of the SNS U19 Shield last week, just missing out on a finals place to a very strong 1st team from Cardinal Newman College. This was a great result for our 2nds who were mostly playing against 1st teams.
Our U15s reached the last 4 in the U15 SNS Shield which took them to finals day at Loughborough this week; where they ranked 4th in the shield. Well played girls, what a great experience for them.
Our U19s and U14s travel to Oundle School this weekend as they represent Yorkshire in the England Schools Netball National Finals. Both teams qualified through the area and regional rounds and now play against the top 18 schools in the country.
