Wishing you all a wonderful Summer and the best of luck at your next school!

As part of their Summer topic Nursery created their very own picnic box to use when they have their snack outside. They enjoyed painting it and creating flowers to stick on to it .

Year 1 have been busy creating sunflowers from clay and woven wool in their art lessons. They used various sculpture techniques to create the flower shapes and then added detail by carving lines and dots. Finally, they painted them carefully in lovely, bright colours. Well done Year 1!

Year 2 enjoyed using a flint and steel to create a spark to start a fire in their Outdoor Learning lesson this week. It was quite a challenge but with perseverance and lots of encouragement from their friends they managed to do it.

Year 2 have been busy following their designs to create some amazing animal hand puppets. They all did a fantastic job of sewing their pieces together.

Farewell From Brontë House

Year 2 enjoyed a fabulous celebration day at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. They spotted lots of animals and even got to hold a few!

We have a few staff members leaving this summer and we wish them all the very best. In particular, a huge thank you to Mrs Potter and Mrs O’Grady who between them have been at Brontë House for 46 years. Mrs Potter is retiring, after an incredible 28 years’ service. In her near three decades at the school, Mrs Potter has worked across the year groups within Ashdown, leaving an indelible mark. Mrs O’Grady, is also retiring from her role as Teaching Assistant, after 18 years. Mrs O’Grady has been the Mastermind behind our Bronte Knitwits Club, which has proven so popular with children in Years 3 and 4, knitting everything from poppies to pumpkins.

Year 3 enjoyed a takeaway lunch on the lawn and homemade ice cream as part of their Celebration Day this week. The children were presented with their Robinwood Certificates and individual successes were celebrated.

Year 4 enjoyed an action-packed day at Stump Cross Caverns, last week. They discovered the wonderous world beneath our feet and even became a fossil hunter for the day. A great way to celebrate the super year we have all had in Year 4!

Year 4 finished off their science sessions with a challenge. Who can make the bulb light up, the buzzer buzz and the motor turn? It was quite a challenge for some, but they got there in the end, showing true perseverance.

Year 5 had a busy and productive session in the garden this afternoon. Potatoes, cucumbers, chillies and sweet peas were harvested ready for our end of term sale.

Year 6 took part in an exciting afternoon of science activities this week, with Mr Norris and Mr Shah at Woodhouse Grove. As part of their Forensic Investigation, they extracted the DNA from kiwi fruit and tested various substances to see what colour flame they burnt with.

Congratulations to our talented Year 6 on their performances of The School-O-Vision Song Contest. Acting, singing and choreographed dance moves came together in this brilliant showcase of their performance skills. Nothing short of excellent! (More photos on Flickr)

This fantastic group of mathematicians ventured down to Oxford University last week, for the finals of the National Mathematics Championship. At the end of round 1, they were in second place. A couple of minor errors in round 2 meant they dropped to 29th. They turned it around in the final round and pulled it back to finish 15th overall. With over 500 schools entering the competition this year, we are extremely proud of their achievement.

Thank you for your support in raising an incredible £15,000 for Breast Cancer Now. We were joined by two representatives from the charity today, who told us they have never before received such a large sum of money from a school. This will go on to fund vital research and support services.
