World Book Day 2022

Pancake Day Pancake Day was thoroughly enjoyed by pupils and staff thanks to our fabulous catering team and the great choice of toppings to choose from.

Decorating doors, fancy dress, rhyme time, masked reader, alphabet quiz, visit to the book fair and a live lesson streamed from London’s Cambridge Theatre …. And that’s just Year 5! There were some amazing efforts and very imaginative outfits for World Book Day yesterday.

Gardening Club

On Tuesday, Pre-Nursery discovered some daffodils growing in the school grounds, just in time for St David's Day!

Year 1 and 2 enjoyed their first Gardening Club this week. They started by chitting the potatoes and then looked around the garden for signs of spring - spotting daffodils and crocuses. They are going to be weeding next week, so fingers crossed for some sunshine!

As part of their new Pathways lessons, Reception pupils found a treasure map and had to follow clues to look for hidden treasure in the school grounds. They were very excited following the clues.

RB eventually found their treasure in the mud kitchen oven, along with their new book ‘The Pirates Are Coming’. RH found their treasure chest and new book in the bushcraft area.

Inside the chest were some coins, a pirate eye patch, some jewellery and a shell.

Bones in the Garden Year 1 had an exciting start to their new English topic; it all began with the discovery of some bones in the Brontë House garden!

The deeper they dug; the more bones they found. The children think they might belong to a woolly mammoth.

After School Dominoes

Plastic Pollution Debate

Year 1 and 2 children have enjoyed playing Tension was high in Year 5 this week as the dominoes this week in after school club. children began to consider the impact of plastic pollution. Prioritising what plastic goods they felt were essential and whether they could live without single use plastic (eg. fast food packaging) led to a rather heated debate!

Year 2 are becoming weather reporters and experts in their new topic 'Weather Patterns'. They are checking the weather and temperature on a daily basis to compare weather patterns, they have created a weather diary and discussed the differences between seasonal and daily weather.

In Year 2, as an introduction to the book 'Major Glad, Major Dizzy', pupils have been looking at old toys. In this book some Victorian toys are found under the floorboards of a house.

HMC Netball Congratulations to everyone involved in U11 HMC netball at Hymers College. The team played really well in the group stages, winning 5 out of 6 matches taking them through to the cup completion, where unfortunately they were knocked out. Thank you to Zeb, who stepped in from the football, following an injury. Fantastic spirit and teamwork throughout the day despite the weather conditions.
