Well done everyone!

Year 1 at Cartwright Hall Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed their trip to Cartwright Hall this week where they learnt more about the famous artist, LS Lowry. The children loved seeing a real Lowry painting and took part in a variety of activities. They dressed up as Lowry characters, built a 3D landscape and sorted objects from the 1950's. They then used graphite pencils and pastels to create a huge Lowry landscape together.

Chinese New Year at Ashdown Happy Chinese New Year! This week the children have been learning all about Chinese New Year. Lots of fun activities including dancing to Chinese music, writing Chinese numbers, making lanterns and decorating the classrooms.

As part of the big bird watch week, children in Reception made bird feeders to hang in their gardens. We talked about why we need to feed the birds more in winter and other ways we can look after them.

Year 1 have been having a roarsome time in their English lessons, creating new characters for their class text, The Lion Inside; writing from the perspective of their chosen animal. There were zebras, giraffes, elephants and even a crafty chameleon in the classrooms!

Year 1 gave instructions to their partner this week to make a Mr Potato head in their ICT lesson. They had to remember to give precise instructions in the correct order. After they had made a sensible Mr Potato they enjoyed making a silly one!

KS1 Computer Club KS1 computer club have been continuing their coding adventure. Last week they gave the angry bird instructions and this week they have been using repeat blocks to program BB8 to collect all the scrap metal.

Burns Night Celebrating Burns’ night in true Scottish style, bag-pipes in the grounds, courtesy of Mr Lambert! A talented member of staff; Mandarin speaking, gardening enthusiast and piper!

Year 2 have been describing settings in English and were given a photo of a possible location that a dragon may live., They then used expanded noun phrases to describe the setting. There were some lovely phrases; waves crashing into the sand; hard, rough rocks; spiky stalagmites; hot bubbling lava; and dark, black sky.

Florence Nightingale Topic Year 2 are continuing their Florence Nightingale topic and were tasked with creating a timeline of her life. They thought about the order of events that happened in her life, providing a good opportunity for discussion, debate and team collaboration.

They have also been looking at Florence Nightingale artefacts and trying to work out what they are and what they were used for.

We had some great suggestions, including hair straighteners, for the glove stretchers!

The atmosphere in the science lab was electrifying last week! Year 4 really enjoyed their work on circuits, completing the challenges set without 'blowing a fuse'!

In Design and Technology, Year 4 are evaluating, designing and creating juggling balls! They tried juggling with a variety of different shaped and sized balls and then learnt how to tie-dye fabric.

In today’s English lesson, Year 5 children have been recreating the story of Arthur and the Golden Rope, improvising dialogue in preparation for their narrative writing work later this week. Year 5 have also enjoyed investigating different scientific processes for separating mixtures.

Netball Lots of netball last week with our U9 teams in action at a local tournament, winning and drawing in a good number of games despite the cold. Our U10 and U11 played in a festival at Silcoates. The U11 netballers came back victorious, winning all of their games and the U10s won 2 out of 3 games.

Football Two mixed Year 5 and Year 6 football teams travelled to Richmond House last week and played some great games.

Swim Gala at BGS Well done to the swim team in their gala against BGS, some fantastic individual races and fantastic team support. A very close fixture, just pipped to the post by BGS.

HMC Cross Country Some super individual performances at yesterday’s Barlborough Hall cross-country event. Go team Brontë!

The Pre Loved Uniform Team are still collecting outgoing uniform and sports kit for Changing Stars Milawi. We sent lots before Christmas but please keep those donations coming in! Here is a reminder of the Chitzano School students wearing our kit in December 2020.
