Welcome back after the Easter break. We are looking forward to an exciting, busy and hopefully sunny Summer term.

School had a little makeover during the holidays with new vinyl flooring in Nursery, some refurbished washrooms and a newly painted netball court.

Joe B in Y6, had an exciting time on holiday recently. Joe received a standing ovation after he was invited on stage to play drums with a professional band in front of more than 200 people.

Ashdown Lodge This week in French, Camembear taught pupils how to say some animal names. They had to remember their colours too so that they could identify them in one of the games they played.

Nursery love their new reading tent. As well as reading in it, they have also turned it into a shop, a hospital and a space rocket!

Reception found a box in their classrooms this week. Inside there was a book, a letter and some eggs. They talked about what might be inside the eggs then broke the eggs open to find some baby dinosaurs.

The book was called 'Gigantosaurus' so they talked about what it might be and designed their own dinosaur and wrote sentences about it.

Everyone in Ashdown is thinking about Spring time and growing. Pupils have a fruit and veg shop as well as a gardening bed in one of the outside areas. Nursery are hoping their bean grows taller than the paintbrush, or even taller than that; and Reception have some caterpillars that are doubling in length by the day!

This week's outdoor Reception lesson was all about the lifecycle of a frog. Reception learned a lot of facts about tadpoles and frogs and then talked about what frogspawn might feel like.

They labelled the stages of the frog's lifecycle in their journals and created their own frogs out of craft materials.

Budding Artists Year 1 have been introduced to the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh. We shared the book Camille and the Sunflowers - a story based on his life. The children developed their sketching skills and colour mixing skills to paint portraits of Van Gogh.

Year 2 have been enjoying getting to know the characters in their new reading book Fantastic Mr Fox, by Roald Dahl. They used inference to describe what they thought each character would be like and then read the first two chapters.

Year 3 have enjoyed the slow reveal of their story book for this half term. Our book is 'Journey' by Aaron Becker and the children have spent some time this week investigating objects hidden in envelopes and discussing how they could be linked.

The objects were a feather, a crayon and a balloon. They also made predictions about what this story might be about using only the cover and the book trailer. We are looking forward to finding out more about the girl's adventure next week.

In a galaxy far, far away (the Brontë Science lab), Year 4 kicked off their new topic on sound with an interesting activity, using a Slinky to show how sound energy travels in waves! A must for all Star Wars fans!

Year 5 have had beautiful sunny, dry weather for their trip to the Lakes this week. Plenty of activities, fresh air and smiles—they could be tired tonight!

Thanks to the staff who accompanied them and made sure they had such a good time.
