Our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors led a whole-school assembly earlier this week. The theme was that you shouldn’t face bullying alone and how important it is to speak out and tell someone.

Drumming Concert A phenomenal performance from our drummers on Wednesday at the end of term concert. The level of skill and talent demonstrated by even our youngest children was incredible. A huge well done!
Pink Marathon
Ashdown Lodge Sports Day
And they’re off! It was the hottest day of the year for the Brontë Big Pink Marathon. Pupils from Pre-Nursery through to Year 6 came dressed in pink and took part in the collective 26.2 mile marathon to raise money for Candlelighters. Click here for more photos. We chose Candlelighters as our summer charity this year because one of our Nursery pupils, Barnaby, was cruelly struck by childhood leukaemia last Christmas. Barnaby is a real trooper and despite some very intensive bouts of treatment, is still wanting to come into school and see his friends. He is a very brave little boy and we are proud to be supporting the charity of his choice. Candlelighters are a local charity and have been a huge support to Barnaby and his family at this difficult time. We have raised £4,000 of our £5,000 target so far and if you would still like to donate you can use the following link. Last Thursday our Ashdown Lodge pupils enjoyed lovely sunshine for their sports day. The children tried really hard in all their races (as did the mums and dads!).
Nursery Visit to the Dining Hall Nursery children visited the dining room this week to familiarise themselves with it as will enjoy their dinners there next year when in Reception. They met Mrs Howcroft who looks after the kitchen and, with her team, will be serving them.
Year 1 enjoyed a lovely sunny day at Harlow Carr today. They learnt how to identify the four main parts of a plant, carried out some careful observations of plants in the floral garden and found a tree whose trunk was 207cm in girth (meaning it was about 82 years old). They explored the gardens and filled their bags with different seeds, leaves and petals which they found on the floor.
Year 2 have been getting creative with clay. After learning about the different features and characteristics of reptiles, they created their own reptile model out of clay. They shaped their reptiles and used the tools to add pattern and texture to their models.
Year 2 have travelled to North America in their Animal Art topic. They looked at how animals were used as symbols in the Native American culture and how tribes carved animals into totem poles. The animals chosen were either special to their family or believed to be characteristic of their tribe. The children then made a totem pole choosing animals with characteristics that matched themselves. There were wise owls, loyal wolves, creative spiders, strong bears, hardworking ants and many more.
In Maths, Year 2 have been learning about pound and pence notation; looking at the different coins & notes and adding amounts of money using the decimal point correctly. They have also been learning about fractions of shape and numbers, learning to find quarters and thirds of amounts. They shared cubes into 4 equal groups to help them to find quarters of different numbers.
Summer Gardening There was plenty to do in the garden last Friday: beds to weed, plants to water and supports made for our rapidly growing peas. The soaring temperatures did nothing to deter our dedicated team of gardeners!
Ford Castle Residential
Years 3 and 4 travelled to Northumberland for their 3 day residential trip to Ford Castle. In glorious sunshine the children enjoyed a variety of confidence building activities, ranging from raft building to high ropes trapezes. Everyone really pushed themselves outside their 'comfort zones' and worked as a team to help each other through some tough challenges. The resulting benefits from such challenges are invaluable and the maturity and manners of our amazing children was commented upon by numerous members of staff at the centre. More photos on flickr. HMC Biathlon "I learned how to shoot an arrow in The HMC U10/11 Biathlon took place this archery, it was a new skill." Joss week consisting of a 50m swim and 800m "I conquered my fear of heights during run. We are still awaiting results but there vertical challenge!" Isabelle were some super performances by Brontë children who competed very well across both disciplines.
Year 4 Cricket The Bronte House Year 4 cricket teams enjoyed a fantastic match against Bradford Grammar School on Tuesday. In warm weather everyone bowled accurately and batted well, with a noticeable improvement in communication since the last fixture.
