Welcome Back to Brontë House A warm welcome to all returning and new pupils and parents. We have certainly hit the ground running! Children are settling well into their new year groups and our co-curricular clubs are in full swing. We have even managed to fit in House Cross Country. Well done to all our runners and to the victors Pen-y-ghent.

For our new parents; Brontë Bulletin comes out fortnightly on a Friday. Along with our social media accounts, it will help to keep you up to date with key events in Ashdown Lodge and Brontë House.
Ashdown Lodge Pre Nursery enjoyed going on a nature walk as they start to learn all about Autumn. They looked at the environment around them and talked about what they could see and hear and they found lots of interesting objects on their way around. They will be using the exciting natural objects they found during various activities to enhance their learning.
Nursery have been for a walk looking for the letter sound s, they made the sound using conkers they found on the walk around the grounds. They have also been baking biscuits; helping to measure and mix the ingredients together, whilst watching the mixture change. They enjoyed collecting apples from the apple tree and using them to make a repeating pattern.
As part of their topic on bears, Reception have been busy making porridge. They read the story of Goldilocks and the three bears before working in groups to make the porridge. They had to measure out the ingredients before cooking it, and then got to taste it - yummy!
Key Stage 1 Gardening Club enjoyed Year 1 enjoyed their first swimming lesson. collecting some of the vegetables they have They had a great time gaining confidence in been growing this week. Some of the the water. runner beans were ready to pick but the children had to look very carefully as some were extremely well hidden! The beans have now been delivered to the school kitchen where Mrs Howcroft will make good use of them! Great work Gardening Club!
Year 2 have been exploring the world using globes and atlases in geography looking for Earlier in the year at holiday club, Jessica all of the different continents and oceans. Fraser, Year 1, took part in a planting session. Jessica planted cucumber seeds and this is the fantastic fruits of her labour. Jessica entered one of her cucumbers into an adult category at their local village show over the summer and managed to win 1st prize!
Year 2 have been using Mentimeter to answer questions about the characters in their English text 'Troll Swap'. The word cloud helped them to see all their different adjectives and to identify which words were the most common.
A very busy Year 2 have also been learning about the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo and were inspired to create portraits using fruit and vegetables just like he did!
STEM Club In Year 1 and 2 STEM club the children made their names with Lego. Some children decided to make their initials and others spent time creating their first names. The children found some letters a little tricky to make but with a little perseverance they completed the challenge.
Year 4 have literally got their teeth into their new science topic! They have been using tooth prints to see which types of teeth they have. They used their teeth prints and individual tooth maps to work out the mystery of who bit the apples!
Music Exams Congratulations to the following pupils who took music exams earlier in the year. Juno - Grade 2 Piano Rehan - Grade 1 Piano Pippa - Grade 1 Recorder (Distinction) Tom - Grade 1 Guitar (Merit) Rebecca, Ella, Violet, Nancy, Alexander, Philippa and Musa all passed their Speech Year 3 have been focusing on their drawing and Drama exams with distinction. skills over the last few weeks in their art lessons. They have produced some fantastic self-portraits. This week they are moving onto using different media such as charcoal to produce different effects.
