Drummers Concert
On Wednesday, parents, staff and pupils were treated to the End of Year Drum Concert. Well done to all the children on their highly polished performances and to Mr Brickel for his encouragement and support. A video montage of the excellent drumming can be viewed via our Facebook page.
Ashdown Lodge Sports Day
Ashdown Lodge held its first-ever race for Pre-Nursery pupils at Sports Day last week. It was a great success and our youngest children enjoyed taking part in the event.
Nursery enjoyed participating in a flat race that had the students sprinting towards the finish line, followed by the bean bag race and ‘building Brontë’.
Reception class also had a flat running race, as well as an egg and spoon race, and an obstacle race.
It was heartwarming to see the children having a fantastic time. This event encourages teamwork whilst engaging children in sports
This week, KS1 Music Appreciation Club learnt about the recorder and how to play the note ‘b’. They then used their learning to play the tune 'bouncing balls'. Click below to hear them playing.
Year 2 have been designing and sewing their animal puppets. Lots of concentration, a few knots and threads coming off needles, but they all persevered and got the job done. We think they are amazing!
After reading 'The Elves and the Shoemaker', Year 2 had to work together to solve a jigsaw puzzle to find out what their new story in their Pathways reading lesson will be.
Year 2 went on a Fact Hunt to find out about life in Kenya. They were inspired by the jewellery of the Masai people and created their own African necklace using similar patterns and colours to the ones that the Kenyan tribe wear.
This week Year 4 have been learning all about what life was like in Sparta versus life in Athens in our new history topic about the Ancient Greeks. They all decided that they weren’t keen on being trained as a Spartan warrior from 7 years old!
They are also busy researching their favourite Greek God or Goddess ready to present their facts to the class next week.
Year 3 enjoyed a lovely day together this week to celebrate their successes. They kicked the day off with fun relay games and free time in the pool and then came back up to school for their Awards Ceremony. A picnic lunch completed the celebrations perfectly.
Year 5 are investigating prisms and pyramids and trying to come up with simple algebraic formulas to predict the amount of faces, edges and vertices of any given prism or pyramid. Staff were impressed by their ability to find patterns. Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic 3 days at Dobroyd Castle in Todmorden. The children enjoyed 15 different activities over the three days including archery, canoeing, climbing and crate stacking. The Piranha Pool and Zipwire were firm favourites! The children showed resilience and determination, as well as having excellent manners. Photos on flickr
Year 6 DT Day
Year 6 had great fun down at the Grove for their DT enrichment day.
Sports Day
A fantastic Sports Day! Visitors and staff were treated to some amazing sporting prowess and demonstration of true Brontë spirit. A special mention for Poppy, Year 6, who smashed the high jump record as well as breaking both the 80m and 400m records.
