Reception pupils have been writing cvc (consonant vowel consonant) words outside in the playground. They sounded out words together and wrote them with chalk.

Year 1 continued learning about themselves in science this week when they took part in some simple tests. They used their senses to touch different materials, to taste some interesting flavours and to smell a wide variety of foods! They also tried to put on their coat and build a tower without our sense of sight as they were wearing blindfolds!

Year 2 have been looking at how exercise affects their body in science. They carried out an investigation and used pulse meters and stethoscopes to learn about what happens to their heart rate after exercise. They found that running on the spot for 30 seconds made their hearts beat faster than when they touched their noses for the same amount of time.

In D&T, Year 2 have created their healthy meal plates which they had planned last week. They had to decide which materials to use to create the different foods.

STEM Club Year 1 and 2 STEM club had to think how they could turn their piece of paper into a structure that could support a book. They discovered that a cylinder shape was suitable. Once they tested their structure for strength, they set to work building a tall tower.

Year 2 are enjoying reading Troll by Julia Donaldson. They have compared events in the story and answered questions using evidence from the text.

Year 4 were investigating pitch this week in their science lessons. A Slinky produced some amazing sound effects, and a milk bottle orchestra was just the thing for an impromptu game of 'Name That Tune!'.

In PSHEE 5B have been exploring children's rights and responsibilities and how rewards and sanctions can enable their right to learn, have their voice heard and be treated fairly. In teams, using a set of random objects, they had to create a game, considering the rules, rewards and consequences to ensure that all of them could participate in both making and playing the game. You might be forgiven for thinking that we Their creativity and sense of fun shone have a Bronte rock band as Year 4 proudly through - inventing games such as 'Moshi pose with their amazing homemade, working guitars! Careful consideration was Monster Bowling' and 'Letter Launch'. given to how high and low pitched notes could be achieved and how they could play louder and quieter sounds. Some children composed a tune on their box guitar and shared with the class how they changed the volume and pitch. Meanwhile, in art lessons, 5H have been taking a close look at tropical plants. The artist Henri Rousseau used observational drawings of the leaves in the botanical gardens of Paris to inspire his jungle paintings. Like Rousseau, the children will be turning their drawings into a jungle scene next half term. There was some precision drawing needed this week in Year 5 science lessons as they used globes and calculated the different time zones around the world.

Online Safety Section A bit early but our talented knitwits have knitted purple poppies this year. The purple poppy is a symbol of remembrance in the UK for animals that served and died during wartime particularly in the First World War. They are also busy knitting miniature pumpkins for Halloween!

Fortnite Guidance Epic Games (which includes Fortnite, Fall Guys and Rocket League) provide some really useful features for parents to manage their child's gaming experience. This includes 'cabined accounts' which are accounts where the child is under 13 and certain restrictions are applied by default, e.g. talking to other players. Given the popularity of these games it's possible some parents aren't aware of this feature so we thought it may be worth sharing. You can find further details and instructions from Internet Matters HERE. WhatsApp Guide Even though WhatsApp has an age restriction of 16+ it is a very popular messaging app from Y4/5 upwards. Over the last year or so WhatsApp have introduced new features so we are sharing this updated guide with parents so that they can ensure the most appropriate settings are applied for their child. You can find the article/guide HERE.
