Ashdown Lodge have been celebrating Valentine’s Day. Pre-Nursery baked yummy buns for their parents and enjoyed some Valentine’s crafts. They talked about emotions and are starting to recognise what makes them happy and what makes them sad.

The new Ashdown kitchens have been very busy with Reception making and icing some heart shaped biscuits as well.

The whole school were also treated to delicious homemade heart-shaped, chocolate-dipped shortbread from the talented catering team.

Random Acts of Kindness Day

As part of children's mental health week Reception have been thinking about ways to make themselves feel better and help their minds. They did some gardening to brighten up the area outside Ashdown by planting flowers, grasses and herbs. They were very pleased with the results and hope you all enjoy looking at them too.

For 'random acts of kindness day' Nursery children helped each other with zipping their coats and working the bikes together, as well as creating pictures for each other.

Safer Internet Day On Safer Internet Day the children took part in activities around the theme 'exploring respect and relationships online.' They helped their alien friend navigate the world of online gaming and ensured that they stayed happy, safe and respected.

Year 1 and Year 2 read the story 'DigiDuck and the Magic Castle' about a duck who downloaded a game on his iPad but then made lots of purchases as he guessed his Dad’s password.

ABA Baby Ballet Winner Congratulations to Conor, our Baby Ballet Prize draw winner! Conor gets a free three week trial at Baby Ballet. Thanks to the ABA for donating the prize.

Year 1 became characters from the story and told the rest of the class a rule about how to stay safe and Year 2 thought about which information was safe to share online.

KS1 Clubs

Queen Elizabeth and The Monarchy

KS1 Drawing Club have been learning how As part of their ongoing topic work on to draw a minion. Once they had drawn the 'Monarchs', Year 1 worked together to make basic shape they decided how they could a timeline of Queen Elizabeth's life. make their minion look different from the rest - would they have 1 or 2 eyes? Would they have lots of hair or just a few tufts?

This term KS1 STEM Club have had fun learning about balance and the centre of gravity. They balanced a paper robot on their finger using two pennies and blu-tac, they created their own ‘balancing buddies’ and Real Dragons built a structure with one cube as the base.

In reading, Year 2 used the non fiction book Real Dragons to organise information and find interesting facts. They compared real dragons with make believe dragons and discussed the meaning of lots of different words; in pairs they chose which words would go with which dragon.

This week in KS1 Story Club, the children made models of the bird from the story of Yun and the Giant Bird.

Year 4 have moved through the ages and are now learning about punishment in a Year 2 have been learning about the Victorian workhouse! They didn’t make very Buddhist festival Vesak. They made lanterns good inmates! Hopefully they will improve decorated with Buddhist symbols and a before they visit Ripon Museum next term.

Year 5 and 6 have been very imaginative creating crazy faces out of egg boxes in Art Club.

Stone Age Stories Following a detailed study of 'Stone Age Boy' by Satoshi Kitamura, Year 3 began writing their own Stone Age story. They prepared a detailed story plan, complete with historical details and examples of dialogue, and then went on to write a five part fantasy story.

Year 6 have been enjoying reading 'The Selfish Giant', the beautifully illustrated book by Oscar Wilde. They had fun creating a 'giant' by drawing around our enthusiastic volunteer. The children then went on to write about how the giant had changed throughout the story.
