Happy Birthday Brontë House! On 5th May we had a special school assembly in Chapel to mark the 88th year of the school.

Congratulations to all our Science Week competition winners. KS1 made some super posters on the theme of ghange and KS2’s entries reflected different interpretations on the theme of growth. The standard of work was extremely high.
In recent weeks, Pre Nursery have been looking at mini beasts. Pupils have been exploring the outdoor area searching for different mini beasts and identifying them using simple pictures and books. The children have engaged in sensory exploration through soil in the tuff tray, hiding and finding the mini beasts and beginning to recognise them by name.
Year 1 are reading "Toys in Space' written by Mini Grey. The story follows the adventures of a group of toys who are left out in the garden overnight! The children discussed the different characters from the story and then had great fun using puppets to roleplay their different emotions and opinions. We hope that all the children in Year 1 remember to put their toys away at the end of the day from now on!
Nursery have been baking bread this week after reading the story of the Little Red Hen.
Reception had a fantastic day at Herd Farm activity centre. They challenged themselves to try new activities such as archery and had to work as a team to complete an obstacle course. One of their favourite activities was crate stacking where they had to balance on crates and move from one to the other so more could be added.
As part of their new Gardener's World topic, Year 1 planted sunflower seeds this week. They decided to keep them by the window to give them plenty of sunlight and will be collecting data about their growth over the next few weeks, including height change and number of leaves grown each week.
Year 1 were given a mathematical challenge to start their week off. They played a game of doubles bingo. After the first round, they were asked to use their knowledge of doubles, odd and even numbers. They were then asked to think about which numbers they would not use on their second turn and why!
Year 2 have started their new unit of work 'Questioning' in ICT. They looked at using yes/no questions in order to separate a selection of things into 2 groups. They enjoyed asking about the different avatars in a mini 'Guess Who' game. In maths, Year 4 used inverse operations to solve missing number calculations.
Year 5 made the most of the sunshine to share their writing of a diary extract from the perspective of the Paperbag Prince with each other.
Year 2 have enjoyed working in the Safari Tourist Office in their classroom this week. It was an opportunity for them to choose their own learning and work independently. They have been writing animal information leaflets, booking and paying for safari tours with money, and creating safari maps.
Following the end of Spring term reports, we have some Brontë House ‘Full Housers’. These children from Years 3 to 6 have achieved the ultimate: a purple effort grade in every subject across the curriculum. Some are incredibly talented learners; some require a little more support; but they all share the same ‘can do’ attitude and enthusiasm for all aspects of their work. A huge well done; we are very proud of you. What an achievement!

Revisiting old Memories

It was lovely to welcome Margaret Gamble back to Brontë House this afternoon. Now approaching her centenary year, Margaret used to work at the school some 80 years ago, looking after our very first boarders. Her memory of the school and founding staff was quite remarkable.
Blue and Yellow Day Thank you to everyone who supported our blue and yellow day at the end of last term. Together we raised £4,000 for the Disasters Emergency Committee to help those in need in Ukraine.
Year 5 and 6 enjoyed an ‘epic’ cricket fixture at Aysgarth School, with some excellent batting and fielding, good weather and a tasty cricket tea!
